High mile 944 turbo se

236000mls, a rattling engine, and an oil gauge that's not reading......! I'd walk away. Anything with a noisy engine that's not been attended to by a previous owner indicates some abuse just waiting for someone else to pick up the bill...you perhaps?

There's plenty of other cars around....sound advice from "experts" in 911 & PW and elsewhere is to buy on condition first and foremost.

If the car drives OK with no nasty noises or smoky exhaust and no obvious major faults offer him 2k take it or leave it, then walk, he is still making a healthy profit, and you have some "fix it" cash ,
I have a copy of an old Porsche and 911 world which features a 220 turbo with near enough 500k on the clock, original engine and box and apparently still driving well.
Or buy a lower mileage S2 [:)]

Lad

Get another car.
1. You will end up always firing buckets of cash at this car. Mine only has 56k miles but I spend at least €1000+ per year on keeping it in resonable shape. Thats every year since 2000. If mine was abused in the past you are looking twice that.

2. Faye was bought 2 years ago in a similar condition. The engine was in great shape and the body was fairly good. Thomas had to spend a shedload to get the car up to a very good standard.

3. I am with Oli on the seller.. This person of "questionable parentage" took advantage of a decent old fella - do you think that he wont take advantage of you..? Jaysus I hate sly, greasy, dishonest people . I know hes a businessman trying to maximise his profit but that is taking the mickey altogether..!

I agree the sellers an arse but the worlds full of em. Like Frenchy said you can make him a fair offer knowing what his margin is.

I steered clear of turbos beacause of cost/maintenance and ended up with a decent lux. Its slower but it goes round corners just as fast. ;p

I'm in Leeds. Where in Leeds is the seller? I can recommend a local Porsche specialist to have a look over it - that would be your safest option.

Phil - Thanks, the car is near the university.
I have spoken with Phil at Porschtek who seemed really nice.

TBH - ive been put off by this car now.....

Might wait a while and see what else comes up for sale...............

Great minds think alike.....

I need help - im running a similar thread on TIPEC - mixed bag of replies - similar to here, but my interest level has gone back up again.......

I work quite close to the uni in Leeds so could have a look at it for you, but I'm no good on the mechanicals. I can spot dodgy bodywork a mile off, if that is any good to you.

I agree the sellers an arse

Should we be getting personal on what is a Porsche approved Club forum with people or businesses who are probably not aware they are being subject to libel?

None of these comments are libelous.

Statments of opinion, which these are, are not actionable.

If the original old chap thought it was worth £4k he'd have advertised it for that. These other chaps are just hoping to seriously take advantage of a new buyer.

First Post, so be gentle guys!

I have just bought a 220 turbo with 194k on the clock!

It was the best car that I drove (including an S2 with 100k less...), although the paint had gone a bit milky, but it seems to have been well looked after mechanically, and best of all I paid much less than £3k for it...

Hi Fat Albert,

Sounds a nice car. The paint can be restored by a good specialist - modern day products can make almost anything look great.
Someone PM'd me about a 944 turbo that had done 1 million miles on mostly original parts.

Sounds fantastic - get some pictures up for us to have a look at.

Good news and welcome. Proof, if proof were required, that people should buy on condition and not mileage.

As for the paint, head over the the forum at www.detailingworld.co.uk and you'll see some amazing transformations.

There's even a thread about a red 220bhp 944 Turbo, ironically.

Thanks Guys!
Ironically I got Senior Management Aprroval to change my car as my SAAB's miles were getting too high at 150k!

The first 6 hours with Liquid Claybar and Polish have taken it from this:
