hot start probs 944

Yes FEn

I have a keyhole ( and the key and it works [:)]) factory alarm. ( key in back wing, driver side )

so the switch that gets pressed by the bonnet closed is probably ''protecting'' from engine theft ...LOL bless the germans...
although the alarm is ''shyt'' it only horns once and that's it, you can rob the car blind ! you can open and close the doors without any trouble...

thanks for that anyway

I HAVE SORTED THAT HOT START PROBLEM !!! ( and heat issues )

if it happens, for some reason, change your battery... ( obviosuly before starter or alternator )

I never thought of changing the battery, the car started no problem when cold so to me it was ok, but as OLI mentionned, resistance lowers as heat increases. ( wires i suppose and stuff like that )

Then apparently the golf vr6 suffered this problem and some owners on french forums suggested battery change as it had worked for them. It does WORK.

Regarding the voltometer reading, it indicates the same value of almost 13 with old battery and new battery, so don't let this fool you.

regarding heat: changing the oil, oil filter, and water ( plus bleed ) sorted that issue.

hopefully this will be helpfull to others.

Thanks for all the help for my first time on the forum.

pjb,

I did the same, changed the battery, have kept it topped up with a trickle charger, but it has since let me down on one occasion. Bizarre......

hi NORTHO

yes it's a bizarre prob isn't it, and f... frustrating...

the help I got on the forum was handy. According to 1 of the members, he explaines that if the batt was on the way out, well, when the parts iunder the bonnet get very hot, they resist better to electricity, that's not good for our problem. obviously, if the batt is tired, it will have greater difficulty in supplying the engine with electricity. i guess.

to solve my heat problems, I started by changing my coolant liquid to nice new one, I also changed my oil and oil filetr, and even in traffic it hardly eats up.

The new battery was the biggest imnprovment: The starter motor spins much energetically, and therefor the car always starts well.

On the french forum, i also talked to some1 who explained that: is starter is on the way out, and to compensate that, he changed his batt. A solution but can be only temporary...maybe that is why u encountered problems, after, even with new batt.

good luck and let me know the outcome.
