Have always wanted one of these though that is quite a hefty price ! Not sure I could justify raiding the piggy bank to that extent for one.

Was there some talk a while ago of some supplier looking to recreate these or did I just imagine it ?

Jon, I remember the remanufacture of saratoga rooves but I don't recall it actually coming to fruition.
They are rare and someone wants one that's what they cost. Sort of tempted but not enough. Weren't they prone to cracking and the fixings breaking? Got to have a sunroof though, one of my few requirements in a car.

Don't like the 944 sunroof much, having to take it out is just a pain, would rather do without it. However glass panel would give a nice light airy feel to the cabin especially if you have black trim, although you might need aircon to help keep you cool in the summer.

Those photos are "borrowed" from Pelican Parts, after a prompt he has now added photos of the actual item he is selling. Visit (register for) Porsche968uk for the full story of Saratoga sunroof panels, including this one.

I saw this too and made a cheeky offer but he's sticking at £600. Guess he knows (or thought he know.....) what he had and what it is (was) worth!

Since being snubbed though, my belligerent side took over and I've been doing some digging and found that yes, they were remade by Pilkington in the US and it looks like you can buy a brand new one. Take a look at this discussion from Rennlist: http://rennlist.com/forum...ratoga-tops-again.html

The only place I can find it is the US site called Pilkington Classics : https://www.pilkingtonclassics.com/shop/specialty-glass/saratoga/10975-1985-1991-porsche-944-944-porsche-sun-roof-saratoga-bronze-tint

Still seems expensive but way less than the £600 wanted on e-bay and I'd be up for this if I could get it easily. I've been on to Pilkington UK today to see if they can help in any way, I think there would be a decent level of demand for them. I managed to track down the guy in the UK that is in the know (sort of!) at Pilkington Automotive who is going to do some digging for me.

There also is a forum member here called Fejjj who I PM'd earlier as he seems to know how to get hold of them and was involved in the Rennlist discussion.

Apparently the new ones are less "windy" too which is a bonus!

I'll keep you updated!

I remember reading a Rennlist thread a couple of years ago when the first few were delivered. Tried to check the story on Porsche968uk, but it appears you have to pay £10 to register in order to be able to read threads []

Gents, I've bought this roof so I'll keep you up to speed on what it's like. I agree it's expensive, but they are quite rare.

I'll be kicking myself if you can get them from Pilkington though ????

That's the Pilkingtons price plus $150 on his Ebay listing, which also reckons you should not have to pay more than about £40 import duty!

[rant mode] They really do enjoy fleecing us don't they. Tax us when we earn it, tax us whilst we're not spending anything then tax us again when we do try to spend what's left...[/rant mode]

Before going any further towards purchase, it's worth having a search and read on Rennlist for Saratoga Sunroof. From a very quick look at the 2 threads with 2015 posts it loks like there were problems with the front latches and Pilkington eventually came up with a fix, but I did not read a lot of the threads/posts.

That's true. The originals had problems with a polyurethane bushing on the front holding the latch in place. The first pilkington ones also had a couple of issues but these were also fixed.

Looks like I can get if for £500 all in which I think isn't too bad for a brand new one.

Juts waiting to hear back from Pilkington UK to see if they can do anything too.

You can. Cheaper, too.

Yes, I'm tempted too. If the price was nearer the £300 mark then I'd probably go for it.

Glass would be the best material but I'm sure someone who knows something about plastic could make one for much, much less than that. The concern would be scratches, but modern plastics are much more scratch-resistant than old ones. Maybe, maybe ....
