I'd have this if I wasn't so poor.....

OK, spoken to Pilkington UK today and they have confirmed that they can supply them and that they will be quite a bit less than £600! Only available in bronze tint though (which I'm happy with as the Rennlist forum post showed the tint really not being a problem (it's very subtle)).

They have asked how many are wanted and I told them it depends on how much they are. I've asked for a preliminary estimate for 15 and have e-mailed for them to send me back a formal quotation. What's the best way to do this as Nick (not Neil!) said that if we can show him an order for 15+, he'd have them all shipped straight away. Assuming there's 15+ I'm happy to post the formal quotation up here and place the order once payment has been made for them. Is it better to go through the club though as I'm not a member as such (although every year I do think I really should be again)?

15 was picked as an estimate for now, we can confirm numbers before the order is placed and when people put their money where their mouth (or fingers in the case of a forum) is!

Will let you know the final quotation as soon as it comes though.

I'd have thought you want a list of people who are formally interested to see whether you can get to 15, and then post the quote on that basis. It would be helpful to hear from Pilkington what the price cut-offs are; for instance, 1-5 units would be £650 each, 6-12 units would be £420 each, 13-50 units would be £320 each and so on.

I'll start the list:

1. zcacogp (Oli).

Just so you are aware, I've been keeping the 968uk forum up to date with this thread - you have at least 1 interested party as a result! I've copied 944Fripp's latest across with the note "if you're interested, get on the PCGB forum now!".

I think I've already put my name down but to make it easier....

1. zcacogp (Oli).
2. 944Fripp (Tom).

Prices are in!

These are inc VAT:
1 off: £457.87
10+: £432.04
15+: £418.27

Delivery will be £25 per unit or if the entire lot is delivered to a single location they can be picked up FOC. Personally I like the latter as I live in Sheffield and they have a factory in Rotherham which is easy to get to for me and for anyone passing as its pretty much the middle of the country....if you exclude those north of the border. Either way I can live with £25 especially if we can get 15 people.

Quite a saving on £600!

MUCH cheaper than £600! Good work Frippo*.

It would be good if we could get 15 people interested and thus pay less than £420 for each one. How's that list going?

Collection from Sheffield would be tolerable; I have friends in Derby who I see fairly often and could collect when up there. £25 for delivery would be a nice sum to save.

Oli.

* - Mock ye not, a nickname like that could catch on. "Frippo". Has a good, catchy ring to it, don'tcha think?

ETA: Just re-read and noticed that collection would be from Rotherham. I had to google that to find out where it is. And then realised where Sheffield is in relation to Derby. And then realised that I'll be paying £25 for delivery. []

Thanks Oily.

Not the worst I've been called. Not the best but not the worst.

The collection can be from anywhere but they'd all have to be shipped to that one location (saves costs). I've just asked if we can have both (collection from a sensible location and for those that want to pay for postage then they can, will let you know). I've only suggested Rotherham because it's nice and close to me. [;)]

Delivery is expected to be up to 2 months (this keeps the shipping costs down) and he's going to confirm when the next shipment is due to leave so we'll need to place the order by then.

The list is up to 3....but initially about 10 indicated they were good for it. That was before prices were announced and before a slightly drunken Friday evening browsing forums and buying things you wouldn't normally when you're sober has had it's chance.

Is it worth starting a new thread titled "Glass Sunroofs (Saratoga Tops) for Your 944/968 Group Buy" on the 944 forum and the 968 forum? 968's are worth more, perhaps we should suggest a higher price and cream off the difference from them?! Hahaha...I love it when a plan comes together.

Clever! [:)]

Getting 15 would be good. (Not sure about the idea of making things pricier for 968 owners; that sounds a little too socialist for my tastes!) However I'd have thought that this would be fairly easily achievable, between this and the TiPEC forum and the Facebook group (which I don't know about, but I understand is quite active.) The opening gambit on this thread mentioned a price of £600, and there were a fair number of people showing interest.

Do you want to start the threads or do you want me to do it?

Oli.

A member on 968uk posted the following that perhaps someone on here can answer :

"Do we know if they have those sticky-up bits as shown in a photo somewhere else (thought it might be this thread, but seems not) ?

I could be interested; but maybe not if the hinge parts are going to create wind noise.

The standard removable roof is quite a substantial item, fairly thick. I guess the glass is much thinner, hence the hinge bumps. ?"

I suggested (strongly) that he register on this forum, but it appears he has yet to do so!

Interesting Q's. Some good, detailed photos of the item may well be a good idea. Giving people an idea of what they will be buying before they stump up £450-odd may help reassure them that their money isn't being wasted. (The ideal would be for someone who owns one to allow other people to have a close look - at a meet or something similar - but given their rarity I don't think this will be practical.)

Ta. [:D]

Sure, by all means start the threads, I'm not a member of TiPEC. The important thing is that we get the numbers absolutely confirmed so that the order can be placed. Once we have the numbers we need to decide who's collecting the cash and placing the order. I'm happy to do this as long as everyone knows that I'll not be placing the order until I have cleared funds for everyone...talk's cheap! If it is me, I can supply my work e-mail address to collect written orders and place the order on Pilkington. Unless anyone has a business better set up for this sort of thing than me!

If you'd like to know more about these then you can see loads of info on the Rennlist discussion here: http://rennlist.com/forums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/680660-pikington-will-make-saratoga-tops-again.html

There's loads of info and pics if you read through it and my thinking is that it's not like I'm getting rid of the old one! It seems the wind noise was a problem with the old ones but the new ones have resolved this issue.

I'm definitely going for this even if nobody else does because if it goes to my local place the difference between 1 sent to the local factory for free collection and 15+ and a £25 delivery charge is pretty minimal! The bragging rights alone would make it worth the difference. :ROFLMAO:

My sentiments exactly, on all fronts. And getting cleared funds up front from anyone interested is essential; the potential to be out of pocket would be significant.

I'm looking through that Rennlist thread as I type. Any idea which page the pictures are on?

Skip to page 52 and read on from then....they don't half know how to rant on Rennlist!

There were loads of people complaining about the wind noise (which was far worse on the original Saratoga Tops) but Pilkington then developed a mod that they included as standard parts in each complete system from then on which was in June last year so I think ours will be OK. I'll get this confirmed though if anyone is worried!

Count me in, if we could make it to 20 people would they do them for £400 flat? anyway my name is on the list.

I'll start the list:

1. zcacogp (Oli).
2. 944Fripp (Tom).
3. ALZ 1933 (Alan).
4. 944Scott (Scott).

This will be going on the plastic, would it be easier to set up some sort of paypal payment? oh and I'm happy to collect.

A Saratoga mini meet it is then, I just hope the car will be back after my paint woes [&o]

I know someone who has a business set up - Stuart Cookson-Smith, AKA Mr 968 on here and the owner of the Porsche968uk forum.....

Now, where's that "tongue in cheek" emoticon!!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And from member Yachtie on 968uk :

"If anyone wants to see one of the Pilkington Saratoga Sunroofs in situ and working I am happy to make the car available in central Manchester this weekend. You will also then be able to get an idea of the bronze tint."
