Insurance time again

ORIGINAL: mcgc0

My turn for a renewal quote... following criteria:
- 1990 C4
- LU6 postcode (village outside of Leighton Buzzard - new home)
- Age 53 years
- Garaged
- Full write-off claim last year

Here's where I ended up:
- Norton/Heritage brokers
- Chaucer Insurance (my current insurers and the ones who paid out for the write-off on the way to Le Mans last year)
- £381 / annum premium
- £350 excess
- 5k annual mileage (3k mileage was £305 annual premium)
- Track day cover included (£1k excess)
- EU breakdown cover included
- Legal protection/cover included
- Agreed £20k valuation

To be honest I can't fault these guys. My current London postcode (garaged) still only came in at £420 too. When I punted my other C4 into a wall on the way to Le Mans last year Heritage and Chaucer were absolutely brilliant - immediate replacement car (diesel Golf not what I was thinking of entering the Porsche Curves site with though), with fast repatriation of the creased C4 to a garage of my choice. Full agreed value pay-out (on a write-off) and 30% buy back for salvage (standard small print). And they still came in cheaper than all other after a full day of quote ring-rounds today - including all the companies mentioned in other replies..!

Marcus

Good news Marcus.
Its reassuring to know that there are insurance companies out there who deliver when really needed.

Good spot Steve,
This forum isn't as active as it used to be ;)

Talking of reviving old posts:

Anyone tried that new club sponsor broker they were encouraging us to contact in the latest PP?

Anyone? How does it compare to Classicline?

I swtiched to Locktons and got an excellent deal, saving quite a bit over previous years. The policy is underwritten by Chubb who come highly recomended, and the club wins out of everyone who uses them.

I've been with Norton/Heritage for a number of years now and found them to be very competitive.
Out of interest this year I compared against LV as quite a few people were saying they had received a competitive quote compared with their renewal. Initially the price they gave me was very attractive, until they announced the excess's plus they did not cover the windscreen! [&:] and it didn't include breakdown cover either.
I also tried Porsches own insurance and their quote was ridiculous. Plus they would only give market value in the event of a right off. They appeared to have total disregard to owners with older Porsches, not good business sense!

It may have been an old post but the info was most welcome.

Aviva = £455 which when I pointed out I already had 964 Cab with them for £289 they came up
£375
Confused = £337
A. Flux = £315
ClassicLine = Declined because of an MS90 I got 3½ years ago
Locktons = £279 then 20 mins later they said my MS90 was causing them problems.
Heritage = £232 Legal included, excess £250 & PCGB Trackdays

964 C2 Coupe, garaged, value 17k, 1,500miles, retired living in rural location, no claims in the past 20 years.

I have had all my classic cars insured with Hagerty for the last 8 years but this year (August) they were a long way out.

I rang around and Norton/ Heritage were by far the best I got.

944 Turbo - 3000 miles and agreed value £16k and 964 Celebration - 1500 miles and agreed value £33k

For both cars garaged on the agreed value and mileage the price was £440.00 with an excess of £250 per car

Following on from my earlier posts to this thread....

Just had my renewal through from ClassicLine, £9 increase from last year to £394, so thought I'd do a little comparison.....

Especially seeing others on here paying +/- around the £200 pound mark & given that I do live in 'rural' Bedfordshire!!

Well online quotes I got were astonishing:
Lancaster £678.63
Heritage £774.22 with a combined excess of £850

Admiral were the closest at £367 but then I wouldn't get Agreed Valuation that lasts 2 years......

So, no brainer then, CL for me for 4th consecutive year :)

Regards

Paul (Kasspa)

Hi Guys

Just to throw something into this pool: Classicline quoted me £260, which would be a huge improvement on my current premium. On the basis that you tend to get what you pay for I did a bit of searching and found that the majority of reviews by those who have actually had to claim are, ahem, rather less than complimentary....
Just a thought.

HNY to all
James

I got a quote for renewal this week from the PCGB insurers, Locktons. Very competitive and well worth a call if you're renewing.

@Paul & @David, those renewal prices are very low, have you got agreed value on those policies?

No agreed value

I recently increased the agreed value on my car to a level where I would have a fighting chance of replacing like with like, alright so my insurance was £80 or so more than yours.

Enter your car's details into 'Webuyanycar.com' or similar, it may give you an indication of what you will get for it as a total loss. Unless, you can negotiate an agreed value for an additional premium perhaps?

One of the regulars on here lost his car a couple of years ago, but due to agreed value, he was able to replace it with something similar. I really feel you are taking too much of a risk without agreed value insurance.

When asked the value I put 18k, so that is on the proposal. If it's written off it will be easy to see what the market price is and a good argument should the insurance company refuse to pay out.
If you agree a value, that is the price paid out, regardless as to whether it's increased during the year.
