Is your 944 a daily or weekender? And what else have you got?

daily driver. was thinking of selling it when i got my 996 C4 a couple of months ago but just can't bring myself to. Has done 7000 miles since February trouble free, gets more shopping in than the 996, uses less fuel and has a far greater range, fun to drive - like an old mini you can put your foot to the floor most of the time and enjoy the handling without doing silly speeds like in the 996 and i can leave it anywhere without worrying that some toe rag is going to dent my doors (or worse) in a car park! long live the 944!

Well, mine seems to be neither! I don't get much of an opportunity to drive it and when I do, I like to take the long route.
I have had it 3 years and done around 10K miles. I don't use it for work as I live practically next door, the wife hates it, the baby won't fit and I'm trying very hard to not sell her on.[&o]

The family car is a Volvo C70 GS which is an extremely good car if a little underpowered (non turbo version) but good fuel returns. My main qualm is with the handling, it does handle but you get thrown around inside. Very strong car indeed. Last week a chav who was uninsured AND no License!!!! ran into the back of it whilst the car was in motion @30mph, totalled the Saxo completely, the Volvo had a inch tall white mark on the bumper.[:)]

Watch this space or contact me - 89 944Turbo S MO3O - promax level 2 with electronic boost control, cometic headgasket, spec2 clutch, lightned flywheel, new brake lines OEM, new fuel lines OEM, new belts, new valve stem oil seals, flamimg eye kit, replaced water pump, and FULL service history.

i have had a chance to drive mine in 10 months since the birth of my daughter.

Have brought it out of storage now though to get it ready for MOT and then hopefully it will become a fun weekend car again ;)

I keep VJ for pleasure use only, ie any excuse will do....

Also have a Toyota Hilux van in fetching Turquoise for the work gear. Being lightly loaded, hi-torque and RWD I've just had to shell out for two rear tyres after only 15000 miles - mostly we have been going sideways. [:)]

The dogs are ferried around in style in the Legacy Sports Tourer. Second one we've had, supremely reliable and good fun in it's own way. Thanks for the recommendation, Fen. [;)]

You just haven't tried a Beemer Touring so you don't know decent dog transport when you see it.

A speed boat? [&:][&:][&:]

We've had our S2 for eight years, its always been a daily driver, clocking up 20k pa by me in the early years but down to only around 8k pa now, mostly by my wife Debbie.

We've had the Turbo nearly 5 years and it used to share the daily commute with the S2 but since I started my own business last summer and now drive a VW Transporter van, LIL decided to get a bit stroppy and break her turbocharger. Since then she's been sulking by the seaside and will only come back if I promise to flog her mercilessly on track from now on, or at least have a spirited weekend blast every now and then [8D]

I should add to my previous message - although she's mainly a summer weekend car we took the S2 through France last year, down to the Loire, on to the Auvergne, the Lot valley to friends south of Bordeaux, and back up through the Charente - 1500 miles in a week. Bumbling along the N and D roads most of the time - and she returned 31mpg! Never missed a beat, and a joy to drive with that lovely torquey engine on the quiet back roads of France!

Sorry Fen,

It's either mercilessly wind you up, or ask how LIL's coming along. I thought it better to stick to you...

I did wonder about getting P6000's on the van, as they might last longer.....[:)]

I'd have thought they'd outlast the van. You could also enter it into the D1 Drift series on the weekends and pick up some silverware if it's already prone to going sideways on more conventional rubber tyres.

Talking of P6000's, the set on the front of LIL should be going through their 4th MOT in my ownership tomorrow.

Gotta love them P6000's [:)]

Thats the one
Granada Mk1
Cortina Mk 4
Escort Mk2

Never saw either a Capri nor a Fiesta in the colour though.

Next year there will be at least one Golf Cab in it.[:)]

Cheers,

My 44 is a high days and sunny days only car (apart form today's rain). Has averaged 1300 miles a year for the last 2 years, and is going to be sold next year to buy something that I won't feel guilty about horsing round a track!

For the daily grind, see my sig - worth checking regularly as I change my cars dependant on the weather so the boss tells me!

The 944 is the daily driver. I used a Jeep grand cherokee for a while when i was in Sweden, but that soon got binned. I have had various triumphs during the porsches time too, but at the moment, the garage is being taken up with my latest toy... a Mini! [:D] When thats done, I may actually swap them round and do some of the work i've been meaning to do on the 944 for a while....

It's my daily driver of course. Luckily I can garage it every night so don't feel too guilty about driving it in foul weather. I am planning to get another car when my wife goes back to work from maternity leave so I should inherit the '52 plate Focus as a second car for the daily grind to and from work and keep the 944 as the toy (with the mods i've got planned insurance is going to get loaded) and get something sensible for the wife, probably a new shape Leon TDi or something like that - I refuse to get a people carrier or a 4x4. I'd actually prefer an older A6 Avant 2.5TDi Quattro but the wife refuses to drive an estate and since she sacrificed her 4 month old Mini so I could keep the 944 when the nipper came along I don't feel I owe her one!!!

Actually the Focus is not that bad to drive. It's fun round the bends and is quite spritely with it having the 1.8ltr engine, and best of all it's got a heated front windscreen - don't know how i've got through winters without one! It's no fun driving the 944 to and from work as it's mostly stop-start traffic or busy roads so no chance to get the foot down. I'd rather save the clutch and fuel for the weekend or trips out to the track.

A remote controlled heater that warms the car up instead [:)]
