Is your 944 a daily or weekender? And what else have you got?

Mines a daily, especially during the colder half of the year, and it lives outside.
But when it warms up it'll become a weekender and the garage door opens to let the Beetle, Karmann-Ghia and Splitty out.

my other car is a 75 1303 volkswagen beetle, have had her since 93 and totally restored her in 2001..
 
My 951 was a weekend car but its been locked in the garage for weeks cos I cant get it out for building materials and scaffold as we are having an extension built [&o]

Never mind its the ideal time to go mud plugging in `snotty` [8D]

To apease those motorists I think it only fair that you pay for two parking spaces, as you lot* can never seem to park within one space[:D]

However we live out in the sticks and a few days a year means that as we are not gritted out here when the school coach gets stuck in the ice/snow I can still detour and get to work.

However I havent bought a new one (cos I likes the old ones for their simplicity) so all these tree huggers who change their cars every 2 or 3 years so as to be Co2 efficient use massive amounts of energy and waste creating new (un needed cars) whereas I have bought (recycled) an old one.

Thats my excuse anyway as me and a few mates *cough* are trying to research and see if (with the help of a coupla local pubs and fish friers) we can run our Chelsea tractors et al on cooking oil [:)]

Spin dryers and caustic soda being the top conversation at the mo [:D]
 
Hey all,

My 944S has been used as a daily for the last two years and has accumulated about 30,000 miles. Currently at 192,000 and its kept outside in the road.

I'd love a second car but saving for a mortgage at the moment so trying to avoid unnecessary expenses ;) plus the '44 is due a belt change and service in the spring.

Hi All,

My 1991 Turbo is driven daily and has currently covered 155,000 miles. It is driven in all weathers but is still looking good after 15 years of use.

It's still only done one track day (to my knowledge) and costs me very little to run (just fuel at 18 - 25mpg and real cheap insurance).

Mine is a weekend, high days and holidays car though I do take her to work on occasion just to get her out of her garage. She has just turned 21 and is still in fine fettle.

*cough* and I have a Vectra as my company car [&:]

911 Carrera 3 - Lives outside for use whenever possible
Audi A6 Turbo diesel Allroad - daily driver
Land Rover Disco III - wife and 4 children.
Land Rover Series 1 with Range Rover running gear and V8 - off road pleasure.
 
When I finally went to collect my first ever Porsche (we all have to start sometime!), I assumed I would use it at weekends and for occasional fun rides. Yeah, right. On the way home from Whitstable to Guildford, it seemed so right my preconceptions went straight out the window. I have had it for 18 months now and it has covered 18,000 miles. Hardly a day goes by when I don't drive the 944. It takes me to work (a secondary school) every day and, at weekends, the Focus almost always gets left on the drive. It's done about 3,000 miles in the 18 months!
Every Wednesday, an elderly gent (67, well not many folk want to still be teaching at that age!) comes in to teach Latin. A few months back he asked if I might give him a lift to a station near my home. He had no idea what I drove and I wasn't sure what he'd make of the Porsche. He eased himself in and pronounced it 'very comfortable'. We had got halfway to our destination (with him regaling me with tales of various ancient Greeks and passing the rest of the time with deeply philosophical comments on life) when I had the opportunity to zap past a moving chicane; I noticed he went rather quiet. I glanced across and saw a huge grin spread from ear to ear! "I've never been in any car as wonderful as this", quoth he!
The next week I found him telling a young colleague about his trip in my 'rocketship'. He now appears every Wednesday morning to enquire whether I would still be around when he finishes his after-school Latin class, as a lift would be very helpful! Who could deny him that pleasure? We do get some funny looks as we pass through Dorking: two guys with a combined age of almost 130 grinning away in their Porsche!
When it gives as much pleasure as that, how could it be anything but a daily driver?
 
My 944 cabriolet was bought as a third car for weekends, I have Mondeo 1.8LXTD Estate, and she who must be obeyed has a rare Rav-4 Stax. The plan for the Porsche at weekends has gone out the window - apart from travelling to work it is always our first choice to drive.
 
Some great tales chaps, and a lot of 'Daily Drivers' which is great to see.

I've a little tale to entertain you with and it happened to me yesterday.
Travelling to work yesterday at 4pm, it was very dark and very wet. Traffic was busy and slow on the motorway, as to be expected. Anyway i get two oiks in a Subaru, and yes it was Colin McRae blue (Arn't they all), looking across you could see them oggling and even got a thumbs up. My first thought was, "Thanks", understandably. My second thought was " He's getting a bit close to that car in front, if he brakes....." And sure enough, SMASH!!!
I pulled over to give details as a witness to the lad they hit. He was very greatful and then said, " Nice car mate" I didn't dare tell him it was nice enough to cause his accident.
But it's good feeling to know my car can have the same effect as the old Wondabra ads.
 
My 944S2 was my daily driver for the past nearly 10 years until I got Smokey a couple of months ago. Now I keep her for weekends. The Mrs has recently swapped a 205XS (much fun, but not for long/motorway trips) for a 1998 Rav-4 3 door (a bit gay!!).

Smokey seems to be loosening up in my ownership and is starting to feel a bit faster and torquier than when I first had it.

The S2 is always sublime and I fell special every time I drive her, even after all this time and the 125K miles I have personally driven her. Thing is, now I have the clattery one and I keep the S2 as a toy, I keep thinking 993 but I still need to save lots more, or 964 but they cost so much more to run.

With respect, that's bollox that is perpetuated by people who don't have experience.

The 964 needs its valve clearances manually set whereas the 993 has hydraulic tappets, which is an extra £200 max every 12k miles minimum. The dual dizzy belt and dual mass flywheel should have been sorted long, long ago on any decent one. My indie was showing me an oil leaking 993 last time he had one on the ramp. So, it would take one hell of a long time of 964 ownership to see the perceived increasd unning costs over a 993 make up the difference in price.

Either way it would be a wrench to let the old girl go, but perhaps now it is time for a change.
 
I'm new to the forum having only puchased my first porsche yesterday.

It will be my daily drive, an '83 944 lux with full porsche history and near imaculate condition.

My weekend ar is infact a Merc 310D sprinter that is converted to part motorhome part garage and is used for when i'm racing supermoto. I have for that an Aprilia sxv450.
 
944 Turbo is a garage queen... bought as a daily driver, but my wife kept polishing it to the point I wasn't allowed to touch it anymore.

Tried several different cars as daily drivers, eventually settled for an '84 944...

Mine gets driven to work very often plus the schoolrun,Done quite a few trackdays in it in the uk and abroad including lots of laps around the Nurburgring.It lives next to a GT3RS for trackdays and Cayenne "S" everyday car (Don't knock it till you've tried it!). Love the noise the 951 makes(big freeflow exhaust) and the way the power comes in with a BANG it is better than any coffee in the morning!It has a fraction over 400bhp on th WRC dyno in its present settup which is not easy as there are only a couple of cars i know that have done this despite lots of torque.. sorry "talk"![:D]It is the car i will never part with unless i end up stuffing it or it gets pinched!If so i would have to get another as i could not be without 951 again.
 
Just bought Helen's S2 to use as my winter daily driver.

The 996 GT3 will become my summer daily driver and weekend car....when not on track.

And my 964RS lives on the track all year round, where only it should.
