Jeremy Clarkson -wtf

His time has come. I never like his sense of humor anyway.
Never understand why people with so little talent can earn so much money incl. J. Ross.

The only guy has got real talent in TG is the James May who unfortutaley has to work with the gang of JC and RH.

From all I've read he works hard, he plays hard and he's handsomely rewarded. Market forces. I know I can't write like he can ergo I can't present like he can. I'm not an avid fan but he often has the balls to speak out when others don't. Which in the PC obsessed world we live in is a refreshing contrast.

He's usually wide of the mark and often contradictory so who listens and takes what he says seriously? I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. He's apologised to G.Brown. I think he's viewed more as a clown these days than anything.

Without him there would be no Top Gear. Without Top Gear my world would be a duller place.

I like JC, anyone who says what they like without fear of upsetting the PC brigade gets my vote [:D] Bit of a shame he's had to apologise though []

There is a fundamental difference between humor and joking about someone's physical appearance in public. In his comment, he commented 'one-eyed', 'stupid' and 'Scottish'. Don't know much about his education background, maybe family education wasn't on offer.

Don't disagree. The comment was inappropriate and not at all funny so he made an ass of himself. He's an ass and most people know it. What's new? Nobody ever dies from being offended. The more you feed the troll the more he'll come back for more.

Another vote for him. I used to read Performance Car pretty much just for his column. I was so aggrieved that he felt he'd rather quit than suffer the constant criticism of his writing that I stopped buying it. As I'm sure many others did, and the mag dissapeared.

I've also read him every week in the Sunday Times for years. I like his ability to avoid the usual motoring-journalist cliches that make even the best of them sound like Sniff Petrol's Troy McQeef. Let's not forget that the current Top Gear is a lot better than the old one. A bit of humour is more entertaining than " the new Toledo has a glovebox with 1.7 cu ft or storage for your luncheonmeat sandwiches".

I also like his ability to accept he gets it wrong and apologise. If he feels he's right he is happy to quit rather than compromise. That is quite admirable in my view. [:)]

That's harsh, GB has got 2 eyes. [:D]

Apparently he was blinded in one of them when he was a kid. I never knew that before!!

Brings a whole new meaning to "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel" though, doesn't it!![:D]

Dave

PS. Being in a not too dissimilar situation myself, I should explain that being blind in one eye means he will have no stereoscopic vision - hence he would not be able to tell how far away the light at the end of the tunnel was.

[:D]We need more people like JC.

[:'(]Unfortunately this country is turning into something that I don't like. A little like the film '1984'. Our freedom of speach is disappearing. I was like pauljmcnulty reading the Sunday Times, his comments in the Sun paper and Performance Car. Go on JC keep it up.[;)]

Remind me to follow you in the next convoy, rather than the other way around! [:D][:D]

Or, of course, I could be slated in the press for my tasteless sense of humour......[]

I ran an Alfa dealership in London in the late 80s and he would come in with his (I think Spider) car and was a ordinary journalist at the time and he was OK. I know people who live near him now and they say he's really OK. I read his articles in the ST and dismiss quite a lot but do know what he's talking about. He was a proper part of the old Performance Car and we need journalists like him. Maybe in another 20 years he will be the new George Bishop or the other Car writers we had years ago.

JC speaks his mind and is funny. People are too easily offended these days. I dont personally like Jonathon Ross and cannot stand Russel Brand but again, they were just taking the piss and I do not see what all the fuss was about. Surely celebrities like Andrew Sachs expect a few people to take the piss.

Really can't get overly bothered by it - yes its a bit impolite but we do seem to be increasingly living in a society where many seem to be actively looking to be offended by frankly pretty mild statements.

JC didn't actually come out and slate disabled people nor scottish people he made an off the cuff slightly crass jibe about a grown man, who will no doubt get over it pretty quickly (assuming he even gave a stuff in the first place am sure he has far more pressing matters to concern him).

Evidently this has passed me by, but from reading this thread i can surmise it's yet another storm in a teacup whipped up by what in the UK passes for media.

I'm not entirely sure what was offensive; I'm Scottish - if someone tries to use that fact in an insulting manner then it's water off a duck's back. One-eyed? Technically not exactly true but as someone posted above he has only one functional eye. I can't say for sure how I'd react to that, but again it's close to a fact so my guess is it wouldn't bother me too much. Stupid? Probably not technically true either, but he is a charisma-free buffoon who was completely unable to do anything right for quite some time after he opened the back door to leadership of the nation.

I have little doubt that those whipping up what sounds like nothing into a hoo-ha will quite happily be attacking GB the next time they get a chance - unless their specific paymaster is a supporter of the Labour party.

What the UK needs is not the loss of Clarkson (in fact it needs more like him; Boris is the only one who comes close in politics and he's a breath of fresh air especially after the half-man half-weasel he replaced). People who have the guts to say what they believe are to be applauded, yet being spineless and mealy-mouthed so as not to risk offending anyone seems to be held up as the desirable way to be.

The best thing the UK could lose is the gutter media with its sensationalist non-news and open political affiliation which I'm pretty sure the majority of the readership don't actually spot even when it is quite blatant. Frankly I have always found it astounding that something purporting to be a news paper can peddle highly biased party political views without having to decalre anywhere they have an axe to grind.

If I understand correctly there are 3 players in this; Clarkson, Brown and the media. Ranking them in the order in which their demise would benefit the country I don't know which would be on top, but JC would be at the bottom.

I don't doubt his ability as a motoring columnist but saying sometihing like that in the public imo is not funny.

Maybe in another 20 years he will be the new George Bishop or the other Car writers we had years ago.

He can't be any less controversial than Lionel Setright, who was always writing about his disdain for speed limits and lesser drivers. Or Alan Clark, who upset a lot of people when he wrote about barrelling down a winding country road, in the pouring rain, at over 100 MPH. In an early Discovery.

I drove an early Disco, and unless if was off a cliff face it would have struggled to make more than the optimistic 85mph I achieved on the speedo. On a de-restricted road, of course, lest you consider me a Clarkson. The point is, it was a great read even though you knew it was fiction. As Top Gear is, Gordon Ramsey's tantrums are, Simon Cowell's TV persona is. It's entertainment, and it often goes wrong, but as long as it's not deliberately offensive like Ross and Brand it's OK to make a few mistakes in my opinion.

I'm struggling to understad why you find it so offensive, Charles.

The country needs people come up with constructive comments (but not clowns) .... but what has JC said

I remember once he commented on the Kia cars in TG and said 'all Korean eat dogs!'. Wow - how intelligent is that.
