I don't doubt his ability as a motoring columnist but saying sometihing like that in the public imo is not funny.

I'm struggling to understad why you find it so offensive, Charles.

Fen,
So what is the purpose of his comments? Make himself a d***head?

I just don't understand why you seem so bothered by it. I appreciate not everyone gets JC's humour, and I appreciate how you might not find the comment funny (at all). What I don't understand is what has driven you to post on here about it rather than just think to yourself "that wasn't funny". If you think it made him look especially bad then that is your prerogative, but I for one don't see what the fuss is about.

OK. My point is should the BBC still paying JC salary via tax payers money?
I am sure there is some codes of conduct working as a broadcaster right?

I understand the BBC sell Topgear all around the world.

And he was hosting a live TG show in Australia while making the comments.
Maybe Carol Thatcher wasn't making as much money for the BBC then [;)]

JC could be a motoring journalist in the mould of Fred Bloggs of the Northamptonshire Junior Echo who writes that the latest Kia is amazing within its price band but he doesn't. He tells it like it is, maybe flamboyantly, but knowing what he says is pretty near the mark and I take that on board. The guy is a petrolhead thro and thro and has driven most cars out there! As well as putting up with Alfa electrics I believe he had electrical probs with his Ford GT !

Being a 'good' motor journalist and an outspoken petrolhead (and also paid £2m+ salary by taxpayers, £6m for Ross!!) doesn't mean that you have the privileage to say things which you shouldn't.

Maybe its about time BBC to find someone better, funnier, more sensible, more responsible and cost less to host their programmes.

Charles, why don't you go lie down in a dark room. I bet Top Gear would be a hoot with you in charge [:D]

We can't all see eye to eye, if you get my drift [8|]

I'm pretty certain Top Gear is one of the most profitable programmes BBC make, so I doubt the tv license is paying his wage as such.

I'm not sure who should feel offended here - either the Scots for being related to GB or GB being related to the Scots? (pun unintended)

I have already submitted my CV as soon as I heard the news [;)]

Oh this gets better,

I recall Frankie Boyle referring to Brown as looking like a "scrotum with a sad face drawn on it"

Which is extremely insulting to scrotums everywhere [:D]

If BBC is to replace the Top Gear presenters, who will be your first choice to replace them?

Or mayve drop the TG and have something better[8|]

Yawn [8D] Good night Charles

who cares?

what happened to freedom of speach? has he done something illegal? I'd happily call Gordon Brown a lot worse, to his face and in public[:D]

JC must now stand for election .... and put his foot where his mouth is ... think the World would be poorer without JC ... actually talented unlike that pratt dROSS ...

Absolutely 100% of course they should.

Gordon Brown presided over the UK economy for 11 years during which time he was happy to accept praise for his prowess even though the rest of the world was doing pretty well also. Now the rest of the world is hurting, but the UK is hurting at least as badly as anyone else and arguably the worst out of any economy. People should be calling GB a lot more than Scottish, one-eyed and stupid. The man lacks any sort of personality and charisma. He would never have been PM if he had had to run the last election as leader of the Labour Party and has the job through the back door. He could do nothing right for quite some time when he first took over the job and a large proportion of the blame for why the UK is as far up Excement Creek as it currently appears to be rests on his shoulders.

Even aside from my belief he deserves all the criticism he gets I think it is beyond ludicrous to suggest someone should be sacked from the BBC for saying anyone is Scottish, one-eyed and stupid. Soviet Russia allowed that much freedom of speech. I think the outrage is that JC has been made to apologise.
