LAST CALL - German Classics Car Show - Haigh Hall + R18 Concours 11th August

ORIGINAL: zeb

best get started now son.........[;)]

You've gone a bit quiet. Suspiciously quiet.

I hope you've not been spending all your internet time in your garage polishing your exhausts and de-fluffing your air vents.

Just checked the weather forecast (should be 'whether forecast' as some people decide whether or not to turn up) and it appears to be less rain forecasted, 2mm instead of 3mm and 1 hour of rain instead of 2 hours. Bring your suntan lotion. (If nothing else you will have something to get the flies off with).

I'll be getting the 964 out of the garage later this afternoon and giving it the once over with the hose pipe. As I know who to bribe for the concours I may even end up winning it myself. Does anyone know how to get ingrained cow crap off paintwork, I've tried 240 W&D but it leaves swirl marks.

See you on Sunday. Only 23 more hours of polishing time left.

Cheers,

Surely you don't need w & d? Bit of polish and elbow grease should do it.

Forecast does seem a bit kinder.

Got the polish, bit lacking in the elbow grease department and I haven't got time to nip to Halfrauds for some.

Even cleaned the seats so David might as well give me the trophy in the morning when we get there.

Cheers,

Hi Ray.

David sent out an email earlier in the week. We are meeting at the Civic Centre, Woods Road, Aspull, WN2 1PJ for a 930 departure on to the site. If you get there early, breakfasts are available. Me, Jamie and Jeremy are aiming to be there around 915.

I assume you have pre-registered with David - if not, you'll have to give him a call as the stand may well be full!

Heney gets wrong idea for concourse thinking he's at Oulton Park...

Cheers, Paul

A good day at Haigh Hall. Even the weather was kind to us.

Thanks to everyone for getting your cars to look so good. Hassan has made it two out of two for R18 Concours winner (and with two different cars!)

Also thanks to the people who supplied butties, cakes and drinks for all to have.

I don't know if the judges actually read this but if you do thank you for time and effort. For the cynical members out there I can honestly say I was not a judge, David Baker knows who the judges were but he will not tell you their names as we will hopefully ask them again to do a similar job.

Haigh Hall, whilst not Woodvale, I think is a good venue for us to use for our main static event, what do you others think?

Cheers,

A brilliant weekend and as Ruddy has said good to meet up with a few of the 'Characters' [8|] from R18 and the more normal members [:)]

Big Thanks to Dave and all the other R18 Organisers for the drinks and cakes that were provided and for making us Cumbrians feel part of the Region.

Nice to see we got Best Group Stand and Mike Moore won Best Porsche of the Day from the Haigh Hall Organisers.

Finally thanks to all those who voted for my car as wasn't expecting to get anything and made a nice end to a great weekend. [:)]

Thought it was a great venue, proper car folk who appreciated the cars as opposed to the standard woodvale response of 'which bank did you rob to buy that la'. Good to put the names to the faces with the cumbrian massive and some very nice cars to boot as well.

I would be more than happy for this to take over as the mini woodvale, interested to see what other folk think??

I would prefer the old format for the concours of 1st,2nd and 3rd, then at least the rest of us could bask in the reflected glory of King Hassan of ye olde ormskirk !![;)]

As always greatful thanks to Fred, mac&sue and everyone else who made the day a success. Messers Wilson &Kellock will later be charged with vandalism as my attacking them with silly string charge was dropped when I planted the evidence on Hassans son!!

Glad to see a yorkshireman won overall car of the show.........you can always tell a yorkshireman....you just cant tell him much....[:D]

Forgot to mention Hassan who won the R18 Concours [:D]

Stunning car and my Missus asked if she could to take it home but was politely refused [:(]

He'd bring 3 cars...

Many thanks to all those involved in organising the Club stand. I was amazed that there were so many cars there and had no idea that this event was going to be anything other than us parking together in an allocated space.

I have to say I agree with Jeremy - with so many beautifully prepared cars there, it would have been nice to see who the podium finishers were for the concours- the Cumbrian crew have certainly upped the ante in the preparation stakes!

Damn those ruddy cumbrians (sorry paul[;)]) rolling road block next year boys......

I wouldn't dare tread on Fred's toes - it's his baby.

Would be more than happy to help if Fred would like me to.

Don't worry Rob, people only have a 50% chance of treading on my toes.

Strangely enough I was thinking of stepping down, health problems, pressure of work, need to concentrate on core business, etc., etc.

Perhaps it could become the Team Mangetout Concours. The biggest job I had prior to the parking was printing out three sheets of competitors; favourite voting slips and guillotining them. With the present format it runs itself.

Cheers,
