Loss of boost

Haven't had any issue holding 22 psi on the latest 3.0 16V engine with a Tial 38mm... a friend has a pair of these on a big block yank engine with large-ish turbos that makes above 2000 bhp, for what it's worth.

Change of plan, now looking at the Turbosmart ultra 38.. Tial is proving difficult to get and having now read up on the Turbosmart, (this company is new to me) it seems this is a better make.

We shall see

Say's who?

The company I ordered it from...to be fair I hadn't looked at Turbosmart even though I had read some reports saying it was a better WG. I went with the name that was more familiar to me over the years, I have now looked much closer into the Turbosmart range and have to admit, I like what I read.

Therefore, the current plan is for the Turbosmart Ultra 38, I have confirmed this order.

Be interesting to see if anything is wrong with the Lindsey modified, standard wastegate.

Do they do adapters for the 944? Whilst I have no doubt you could engineer a solution to make it fit, it seems like a lot of extra effort especially if the fault turns out to be elsewhere (loose nut on the turbo). You have trains to be getting on with!

I have ordered a complete kit for the 951, my second eldest son will be doing the work, he will pick the car up and take it to my eldest son's garage to use the ramp, I won't even get my hands dirty. The trains come first but not done much since last October due to my eyesight, fingers crossed that Moorefield's can do something about that next month.

The Turbosmart WG arrived today, very nice, I wasn't aware that it has an option to be water cooled?

A coupe of photo's, first is the CNC adaptor plates so that it's a direct bolt-on unit, the kit includes all seals and bolts etc

The WG itself, it looks smaller than the original which can only be a good thing for installation. Included in the kit are a viarity of springs with different BAR ratings. I have chosen to have the 1 BAR spring fitted for now.

All being well this will be fitted this weekend by my two eldest sons.. No. 2 son will collect the car probably Saturday... I'll be out at a club steaming event, much more fun than getting dirty under classic cars...:)

Oh, just to add, looks like we have found our new house, our offer has been accepted and the legal stuff is taking place now. Today I had the gas boys in two service the boiler and give it a new cert, Monday the electrician is here to do likewise. My car has lived outside for the 23 years that I've owned it, it may finally have a dry home to live in...:)

Looks very nice Pete - I was looking at one of those for my car but sticking with the standard wastegate for now until I get the engine rebuilt. Did you get it from Augment Automotive?

Yes, sir...Tom supplies the WG with CNC'd adaptor plates. Tom said it fits the same as Lindsey except in reverse...not really sure what that means yet but I noticed the valve is shaped perhaps to have the gases come into the valve from opposite direction to Lindsey?

How's the new wastegate working?

Not fitted yet...Son on holiday and I'm flat out with the house. I'll be sure to report back once fitted though.

Big job moving house. Did it 18 months ago, after 15 years in our old place. Had a lot of er, stuff in my 2 sheds and garage roof, according to the movers. And that's after I'd had a big clear out.

Tell me about it Paul.... 41 years crap for me plus the fully operational workshop. The loft room and eaves also have a lot of crap in them. I wouldn't mind if it was all mine but except for the workshop it all belongs to the kids. The other outbuilding is full of car and pond stuff, most of it very heavy. Most of this belongs to my eldest who's currently on holiday... once he's back I'll be pestering all of them to get their arses over here and start helping. I think that most things relating to our house have now been done, the last being a survey for the buyer's mortgage company. What a waste of money that is.. he was only here for 5 minutes and in that time didn't really look at anything. He even said that there was no smoke alarm on the second floor (loft), I corrected his error pointing out that not only was there an alarm in the loft but that all alarms are linked together and mains powered. I tell yeh.. the guy was useless.. god knows what his report will say... yes it is a house will probably be about it...lol

I had stuff in the loft I hadn't unpacked from the previous house. Started packing 3 weeks before moving day, and I still ended up packing when the trucks were on the drive. The movers had estimated 2 LWB Lutons, and it's a good job they turned up with 3. One of the movers drove me back 60 miles to pick up the 944 too. It had been pre arranged that I'd leave it locked in the garage, and pick it up later that day. Got back to the old house, and the buyers had forced the 3 locks on the garage [].

Wow...that doesn't sound like fun...our plan is to get most of the stuff put into storage close to the new place. Brother in law owns a new merc lwb van, think it's interior is 16 feet.. a few trips with that should clear most of it. We plan to have the house more or less empty by moving day....at least that's the current plan.

Supposedly, moving house is one of the most stressful things people do. We moved from Cambridgeshire to Lincolnshire, and bought a big house with 2 double garages, that we couldn't have afforded where we were. How far are you moving Pete?

Not too far, Paul, we are going to Toddington village which is about 45 min drive from Harrow. We wouldn't be able to buy a place like this in Harrow. We have sold our 2 bed terrace for £500k and will be replacing it with a large 4-bed semi-detached on a corner plot for £452k. It's certainly a stressful business.. I received an email the other day from my solicitors asking to please ensure that all correspondence only goes to the local office and not London as they had some parts sent back to them from London. He also listed the papers which he was still waiting for from me. I immediately phoned the guy and asked what the hell he was talking about? All correspondence had been delivered to his reception by hand from me.. his answer was ..one minute.. he then came back saying that someone had put the papers into the London office Pidgeon hole..... I could have gone to his office and given him a kick in the arse for that one... as you say the stress is immense and having stupid solicitors doesn't help...lol

Ha ha, my advice to you would be to visit in person, your estate agent every morning or afternoon. They're probably the ones with the most to lose if it goes pear shaped. And are usually on first name terms with whichever tea boy/girl is handling your conveyancing.
