Matt Black.....Hmmmmm

ORIGINAL: edh

I like those pics - didn't think I would

I would say that matt black would look good on a lightweight "outlaw" style build. I'm not sure that's what you're aiming for on this car though?

My car will end up with a matt finish from the brake dust [:D]

the answer is - buy another one - keep yours really tidy and put together a matt black stripped out one (early turbo on fuchs [:D])

Yes, that's a great idea!! [8D]. Only trouble is Sarah would stab me whilst I slept!![]

yeah the sort of sr71 spy plane look ? they did this on topgear with they bought a porsche for less than 1500pounds challenge

944 isnt a spy plane though ,and that 928 looked awfull ,I can see where your going though as the bmw e92 m3's looked brillaint in matt or
semi matt black, grey and orange ,but I think when cars get a classic status most people are gonna want to see them as theyre intented
and when someone puts on skirts ,colour codes the interior or paints the car a totally non original colour it makes people not angry ,mmm
well probably angry because theyre passonaite about there cars

keep it standard ,and make it immaculate and it will be worth the most it could ever get
and the only galnces you'll get are of deep admiration

In a sort of experimental way I have had my CS 2nd set of wheel fully refurbed in GOLD ,going to put them on my red car, will look awful or cool I think....
Beauty of a wrap is its reversable, same with wheel colours..?

There's a lot off talk about value, Pete its your car brought and run on your money do with it what u feel is right for you.

A lot off the extra go faster goodies are a waste off money value wise, mod cars don't sell 4 the extra cost over stock.

I had my red S painted black, Toyota pearl black that was very deep black in most light then in the sun would get hints off blue on the eages. Very simmler colour to a Ferrari one off my clients has got. I know longer have that car any more and I miss its looks over my current zermatt turbo, which I will paint soon, but already in wondering if I should just go black and be happy

Go for the matt, can always be painted over again.
Middle pic looks nicer over the 3, due 2 the lighting and blue relextion on the eages

I'm not a great fan of wrapping (or rapping) but, if you are going to do something radical it is by far the best route. And, rather than defacing the car you are preserving it as well so don't get so abused by the traditionalists.

We did a film about car Matt paint cleaning and treatment for BMW and, if you think gloss black is a pain to keep looking good, matt black is in a league of its own. You can not maintain it aside applying cleaners and matt wax. If you get the smallest scratch, blemish, bird muck stain or anything else you can not polish it out as you would a conventional finish as the matt will go glossy and the only way to then make it matt again is to respray the panel.

The other problem is matt finishes still fascinate people and they have to touch them...so the car gets covered in greasy finger prints. And the only way to get rid of the finger prints is cleanse the surface again with cleaners and re matt wax.

Have fun.

So could he have the car finshed in matt? Then if it not what he wants have it poilshed 2 gloss finshed and then clear coat?

Just spray it in the normal gloss black and take it to the 'side of the road', car park street cleaners once a week - it will soon look matt :ROFLMAO:

Then, when you are tired of the matt finish simply take it to a proper valeter so he can machine polish the gloss back again [:)]

Ha, Ha [:D]!!! Thank you for all your comments, advice and recommendations chaps. I have taken them all on board and will give it all a great deal of thought over the next couple of months [8|]. As a point of interest, I have had a quote for a matt wrap which is more expensive than a re-spray proper! £1,500 as opposed to £1,200!! John Simms, some very good points in your post dear chap, regarding finger prints and the like. I live on the coast and, Seagull 5h1t is a big problem around here. Also, I have two small children with permanent sticky, yucky fingers [:'(], so I would have to consider that aspect of a matt re-spray. Oh well, "c'est la vie" as the Frog's say. I'm defo not going the wrap route. It will be a full respray either original or, Matt. Iv'e a couple of months to decide, with a little bit of help from you guys. What will be.....will be. [;)]

What about satin black? We have had a few cars and vans go out grey in the last year or so. I seriously contemplated it for about 20 mins before I went dark blue. My 924 was painted black as I didn't like the mocha brown. All I can say is £1200 seems a bit cheap for a colour change.I had to remove everything from the shell in order to get the engine bay etc painted.

Hi Colin, the car is Black already so, not so much of a colour change [;)]. Also, the chap that owns the body shop (Bodyworx in Saltdean) is a very good friend of mine hence, the twelve hundred squids. [:D]

When we were at the "Ring", Jon and I fell in love with a Audi TT that was painted Battleship Grey with Gulf Oil Orange mirrors and, other bits and pieces! I'll ask him to put up a picky. That could always be an option [8|] Hmmmmm.

Very similar in colour to Steve McQueen's 911 Turbo that I posted further up the page. I secretly love the grey that he always ordered his 9211s in.

If you go gloss black, instead of the original porsche panther black that you've now got, how about going for a slightly metallic black? With a lacqured finish such a metallic finish will be more durable and easier to keep looking good.

Not sure if you're a fan of pearl black but I had an A8 in pearl black with a very faint purple tint. (Only visible from certain angles on a sunny day.)

A PITA to keep clean though, but matt black would clearly be worse.
