Modern Porsche event 23rd May 2010

ORIGINAL: SirM0rseAlot

Hello everyone.

Just found out (and asked to put things straight...) the following

Tickets are available to purchase on the day, and if possible payment by cash is better due to limited credit card facilities.
If you arrive before 10am, providing your car is part of the Modern Register (i.e. Boxster and Beyond) infield parking is available on the day... obviously you will not be able to move your car before 4pm due to Health and Safety.

Hope that helps!
[:)]

Hi.

Where did you hear that in field parking would be available up to 10am ?

I ask this because PCGB actually phoned me back yesterday, in answer to one of my answer phone messages ( Only took 5 days ). At first I thought this was going to be good news, but it was again to say that the ticket sales were closed.

I asked again about In Field parking and the answer was, it's not available at all, and that I would have to pay by cash on the day if I wanted to attend the event.

The impression I got was that they didn't really want any more people to attend the event ! They say first impressions count, this week was the first time I had spoken to PCGB HQ . I felt that the service and attitude was pretty poor to say the least.

Regards.

Bob, sorry to hear that you have received a non positive response so far
I will call the office on Monday to find out any additional information- as to be honest it has been very short coming.. [&:]
However I'm sure the old 'you should of booked earlier' will be thrown about sooner or later [;)]

I would like to organize a time where 997 forum members can meet at a certain time but being as I'm volunteering to assist during the day I can't offer this until I know what is required of me..

However on the upside the event looks like it will be well attended and have plenty going on throughout the day..

Bob also bear in mind that you can't leave until 4pm if infield.. [;)]

Bob, sorry to hear of your bad experience, please don't let it put you off. I'm surprised because literally in all the dealings I've had with them over the years they've been super friendly and helpful. It would be great to see your car there!

Hi Bob,

So as to ensure we speak to the right people could you confirm whether you spoke to Club office or the advertised ticket number the latter being the Porsche Cars ticketing office handling pre bookings for the event.

To confirm, subject to space and traffic levels, people paying on the day with modern cars arriving before 10:00am willing to commit to stay up until 4:00pm may be given the opportunity to park in field.

As you will appreciate we must give preference to those who pre book and we can't hold up a queue of traffic discussing peoples options at 3 minutes to 10.

If you haven't pre booked but would like to get on the infield display I would suggest you get there as early as possible (8:00 am).

There are some spaces available in the infield but these will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Now that pre booking has closed we can not reserve any of the remaining infield slots.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes, I know I should have booked earlier. I said so myself. But didn't know if I could make it at all until last week end.

What's most annoying is, if they had answered the phone, or called me back when I first left a message then this problem would never have occurred. It was Club office I spoke to, the number shown within this thread.
Also, If In field parking is available, then why can't they tell me that, after all, is it not there job to know whats going on ?

But, if I can defiantly get in if I turn up around 8am, then that's not a problem as I only live 8 miles away. Sounds like it's sorted. Hope to see you next week end.

Regards

Bob, numbers shown in this thread..

020 88758689- not the club office- but Porsche cars and where to purchase the tickets for this event.

01608652911- Club office, but not where to purchase the tickets...

Just in order that we can confirm where the problem was and in order to make sure that we can try to make sure nothing like that happens again.

I'd imagine you'll beat the majority being that close [;)]
See you on the day [:)]

Hi Gary.

Yes, It was in fact the 0208 number I called, and I assumed it was the Club Office. That makes more sense, as I had also heard that the club office were always very helpful.

Regards,

The racing car display is looking quite promising. In addition to other cars we have the PK Le Mans GT3 we featured on the Club Autosport stand in 2008 and also the 2000 ALMS winning Bob Wolleck GT3 R.

For those with modern cars that haven't pre booked, if you arrive early and pay at the gate, there may be a chance to be part of the in field display (assuming you are willing to stay until 4:00pm).

Remaining infield parking is limited and will be first come first served.........

To avoid any confusion, a modern car is a modern car. There is no point suggesting, just because you have a brand new 997 Turbo/GT2 etc., you should get preferential treatment over someone with a 2.5 Boxster if he/she got there first. Porsche will be putting on a display of new cars.

Register secs of older models, we have other parking available so if you want to make a display with cars from your register please feel free.

For 997 members and interested parties, [:)]
Im down to assist on the afternoon shift, so will be around the register display area for the morning if not at a seminar [:)]

Hi Gary, yet another rad that's bad news. Anyway dust cloths coming off and will search you out on Sunday to say hello. Was never going to be able to stay until four due to afternoon dog walk but will represent 997 in amongst the masses..

Paul and Jean

Paul, Looking forward to it...and chatting over a coffee...

Yes, I'm going for a record with the rads [;)] [&:]

bring sun cream!!

For those that have never been to the centre before there is no cover/shade out in the events areas [:D]
There is plenty of cover in the centre, by the race truck and at club shop though [:)]

To be clear -No cars will be allowed infield after the 10am deadline, pass or not!

There is another event on at Silverstone, so do look out for signage directing you to the parking and the Porsche centre - unless you fancy Japanese racing [;)]
If there is no signage then someone has stolen it!! [;)]

I hope to welcome members and non members to the infield 997 parking area from 8am, so do come over and say hello and if you don't have a register sticker I will have them with me..

Well as warned, sun cream was required.[:D]
A stunning day with a great line up of 997 to boot[8D]

My sincere thanks to Peter webb who spent the day assisting both myself and the club.
We spent the morning parking the 997 in line and welcoming all the drivers... then the afternoon letting them out of the gate - Yes it was us two with the mouthfull of icecream [;)]

I hope that everyone enjoyed the events and the views on site, Porsche cars put a lot of work into the event, so our thanks to them- well apart from the jobsworth on the entrance to the building [&:]
Thanks to all the members that turned up throughout the day and came over and said hello [8D]

Some pictures of the stunning lineup of 997 owners cars...

Best chip repairs?

[:D][:D]

Most dead flies on the front, I think! Still, t'was very nice of whoever picked it out.

As always, I'm amazed by the dedication of the concours boys. When I arrived shortly after 7.30 in the morning, several of them had their cars in pieces, wheels littering the area, furiously polishing their nuts. And Lesley thinks I'm bad []

Good to see some familiar faces and the 997 Register put up a fine show with, I think, 35 cars on display.

Proof that our Register is only populated by the very finest people with immaculate taste...
