finished off refitting the front panel.. protective headlight rubbers back in place and inter-cooler silicone hoses attached. Also managed to get my drivers headlight light over a couple of mm... can't see any way of moving it via adjustment screws etc. has any one found a way of positioning the headlights centrally within the gap? the bar looks one piece to me but always worth asking if someone has found a way...:)

Alas, I bet you were sorry to see the old girl go Jason! She was a nice one, and I hope the new owner looks after her well.

Whereabouts will she be living now? E London is a large place.

Hi,

Thought I should drop a line introduce myself as the new owner. Very excited with the purchase, and know that having got it from Jason, that I have a very special car which will give my family a lot of fun for years to come.

Jason, don't worry, I promise to look after her and give her everything she needs.

As a very short background, my wife Jess has long hankered after a Porsche (luckily for me). And after a lot of looking saw Jason's car come up and realised that this was the one.

We live in Whitechapel and Jess and I plan to use the S2 as a regular second car to compliment our (not as beautiful but trustworthy) Volvo T5. So if you see us driving around the area please say hello.

Have lurked for a while but now we are the very proud owners of this beauty, expect to hear a little more from me.

Hope to meet you all at some point,

Cheers,

Jon

ps the two kids, 3 & 5 who have immediately fallen in love with the S2 have named her Lady Percy - yes I know that is a strange name - but at least is shows how much part of the family she already is!

Whitechapel! Good lad - I'm over in Bow!

I think you probably bought a good one from Jason. As you will have gathered, the world of 944's is riddled with examples which look good but are not so rosy when examined closely. Jason spent a lot on his car last summer (mainly at my behest, as I didn't want him to sell it!) and it's consequently a nice example. I think he employed Tower Porsche to do much of the work for him, and Jon (proprietor of Tower Porsche) is fairly good with 944's and his pricing is not absurd. If you are planning to use them to maintain your new purchase then I'd recommend them, but don't ever bank on them having anything done when they say they will. 'Time' is a relative concept over there! [;)]

Enjoy the car. Drive it often (and hard) - they work much better when you do this. Keep on top of the maintenance, even the silly fiddly little bits, and she'll look after you well. And if you ever want to chinwag with a local 944 enthusiast then drop me a line. It'l be good to have another 944 in the nearby area.

Thanks for the advice Oli - would be great to meet up at some point.

Would you recommend another local specialist over Jon @ Tower. Don't so mind his optimistic approach to time, as it is a second car, but if there is someone you think would do a better job would be interested to know.

cheers, Jon

Jon,

Others know more about specialists than I do. I was recommended to Jon (Tower) when I first bought the car and used him a couple of times, but since then (9 years ago) have done all the maintenance myself. If you are practical then a 944 is a great car as they are simple to work on, but if not then I think Jon would still be my first choice - particularly as it's so convenient from the East End. If I had something I couldn't do myself I'd take it back to him. He's also very good for advice, both by 'phone and in person, if you have any questions.

I think the alternatives are a place in Wembley (Jas?), or RGA in Vauxhall, neither of which are much fun to drive to. Or there is Mark Fish Motorsport, as used by Chris Graham on here, and they are near Harlow. They aren't 944 specialists but are good general mechanics - I went there once to have an alignment done and quite liked their approach.

I've moved to SE1 within the last year and have started using Tower for my 944. No complaints whatsoever. They've had reasonable costs and good service. Very happy with them.

Maybe we should have a Central London 944 meet up some time if there's a number of us?

cheers
Ian

Thanks - will definitely acquaint myself with Tower. I used to do some maintenance on my old Saab 900 Turbo 16, but that was quite a few years back, and not sure if I'd trust myself now...

Would be very much up for a London meet - I have much to learn about the 944 and would be a great introduction.

I'd be well up for a Central London meet. When would suit you guys? Week days or weekends?

The downside of a Central London meet is that would almost certainly not be able to be done with cars, and hence the idyll of being able to poke around some decent tin with a (soft) drink in your hand wouldn't come to pass. However summer is upon us and the ideal time for such things, so how about the w/c 21st July? Maybe Friday 25th?

Hi guys and welcome to the forum Jon..... regarding London meets, one you might consider is the regular monthly Porsche nights at the famous Ace Cafe, North London, in fact tonight is this months meet. Venue is great if your into your cars or bikes, parking on the forecourt is reserved for which ever marque is meeting that night but if you want to park there best be early. Meet starts at 6pm.. great atmosphere and good food and of course a licensed bar for your passengers. It will probably be another year before my return but I will be there again....:)

Andrew,

Yes, a bunch of 944 chaps from on here dropped into the Fatboys Diner one a while ago. I think it's fair to say that the reception wasn't terribly warm - it's one of the incidents cited on the "Are we the poor relations" thread of late.
