My motor

He's a big feller Fen.

I find them 'tight' and i'm 11 stone, 5' 9". Really supportive though.

I take them out at night, put em in the front room so I can use them to watch telly. Good thing is that if I nod off, I don't fall sideways. And never have a sore neck.

you made the right choice Trev...[;)]nice car.
If you want to know the colour look at the colour code on the paper label on the rear panel behind the carpet just above the hatch lock

i'll maintain a descrete silence on details - I don't want anyone to tell me the suspension needs uprating ....

suffice it to say, I've taken out the ebay ref so I reckon I can squeeze my backside in and haul it out as necessary....

Very nice car Trev i love the interior[8D]

Do you have any more pics? Of the engine etc.

I find the sports seats help keep my belly from flopping around[:D]

Hi Stuart!

Did you not go to look at it?

Yes I will have to upload a pic of the engine. I'm guessing it won't win any awards though. The interior is the selling feature...

You've had it for a little while now - in all seriousness how do you think it compares with an Impreza?

Fen. I remember the first time I upset ya. It's not worth doing again...

Seriously mate. What I really like about the 944 is the 'proper' sports-car feel. The driving position (especially with my seats!) is superb, and the X factor that goes with having a Porsche. The 'clunk' of the door when shut. Since I was 20 I wanted one. I'm 44 now...

The Inpreza is a totally different car. I would still have another one - but would want a 944 as well. Certainly the build quality is superior in many areas with the 944. The doors always felt flimsy with the Impreza - although you always felt that the chassis strength was up to it. The reliability was impressive with the Subaru. I had four, and nothing went wrong with any of them!

The handling is streets ahead with the Scooby, and the aceleration is superior (but i'm guessing that a 944 Turbo would be worth driving as a better comparison!).

As I said from day one, I didn't really want a direct replacement for the Impreza - just fancied a 944!

The 944 forum is much better though. You guys are like family...

Oh that's great that is. I have a bunch of hairy, smelly, middle-aged, slightly over-weight blokes for family now do I? Thinning on top as well, as I recall from the last time I met some of you ... [8|]

:HeadsOffToThePeugeot206CCForum: Ooooh, look .... totty!

Oli.

slightly over-weight

Oli - slightly - thats the nicest thing I've heard for a while.

PS my sills have arrived and I sourced a fog light earlier in the week - Admiral have quoted me insurance for 3 cars thats less than I was paying for 2.. Hurrah - LIL will be on the road in a week or so....

Ooh, what are you getting me, Dad?

I wasn't upset Trev; I just found my RB5 to be average in a lot of ways, and that was capped off by 3 incompetent dealers and the fact it needed a rebuilld at 50k miles (thankfully discovered by the dealer I traded it to) and that sort of gave me strong negative feelings. Being realistic I must have had an exceptionally bad experience, though I still believe that the real Scooby fanboys simply haven't experienced a truly good car.

Your appraisal of the differences pretty much aligns with mine except when you get to the handling bit - my Impreza didn't handle particularly well, but it gripped. Actually it probably handled OK (so compared with all cars better than average), but because it didn't communicate very well it sometimes didn't give enough feedback that it had got bored understeering and was about to flick the tail out to 45 degrees instead.

Anyway, you wanted a 944 and finally got one at 44. Just as well you aren't a 968 fan, but imagine how much more fun you'd have had by now if you'd wanted a 911 [:D]

You know what mate? I don't think that I am a true Porsche fan. I always liked the 944. I guess a 968 is nice cos it's a newer 944. I just wanted to have a 944.

I think the 928 looks tremendous. But why don't i fancy a 911? Every bloke wants a 911! I would much sooner have a Ferrari 328 - or even a Mondail.

Should I look into a 928 next.

What have I said??

Imprezas really dont handle, the trouble is that few people appreciate the difference. You usually find out how poor the handling is when the grip runs out.

When my allegiance changed from German to Japanese cars I was amazed at the performance that I could get for my money, though...

I like the idea of the 928, and the looks, especially of a GTS which I even like in red. What I can't quite get my head around is how they can produce such (relatively) dismal power figures from such a massive engine. Also at the last event I went to in the UK (Ragley Hall national meet in Septemmber 2007) I was amazed to see virtually every 928 was visibly corroding around the waistline. Lastly they are a whole league again of cost to run as even from Porsche some of the 928 parts cost several times the 944 (and 911) equivalent part prices. Note the 928 is the one Porsche model from the 80's and 90's I haven't ever driven.

I wanted a 911 as a kid - a 930 in fact. I was swayed by the road test reports describing it as challenging and evil (I've always been cantankerous I guess) and I vividly remember repeatedly borrowing a book from the local library called "Supercars of the Seventies" which was just a collection of road tests with some glossy photography and holding the 911 Turbo above all others in desirability. Although I haven't had a Turbo I treated myself to a 911 as a 26th birthday present (I'm not much less than 44 now myself so it was a while ago) and I've had anothe two susequently. I've pretty much got them out of my system though they are a fantastic car to drive and really a true enthusiast wants one because it's like nothing else. I have driven one 911 Turbo and it was probably what I should buy if I venture back to Stuttgart as it felt like a 911 but had the level of shove in the back that I like but the NA models don't provide.

I never even noticed the 944 when I was growing up and actually went the opposite way to most in that I bought a 944T to replace my first 911 (and free up some capital). I didn't like it, but later I went back and tried again as I wanted the practicality as well as the other Prosche attributes the 944 has. I have said before that it's not really a logical thing to buy a 944 as a stepping stone to a 911 because they are so different, but many (most?) 944 owners do, and I sort of did myself. It's a bit like buying a Fiesta while you save up for a Sierra Cosworth; same badge but not much else.

Now Japanese; in general I don't get on with them. I've had the Impreza, 2 1st gen MX5s and an Isuzu 4x4. The MX5 is the only one I'd have again - is it coincidence that they are a Japanese recreation of a Triumph Spitfire with more than a passing nod at the original Lotus Elan? I doubt it. The MX5 handles by the way, and is a superb car to demonstrate the diference between grip and handling. Especially with a 246bhp turbo conversion, although I actually think the standard 1.8 was the sweeter all-round package.
