I done my first trip of the year at the end of May but for the first time without my 944 [:(], i did miss being out there without it but i did have great fun in this http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee119/spicster1974/Photo0736.jpg my new DRT.... As far as things going wrong on my 944 very little did and i was once told by some wise old man at the track if you were to turn 600 laps in a brand new car on the Nordschleife then after it would want putting in the bin....so i wasnt to bothered when the odd little thing did break on the S2, after all it had already covered 136000 miles before i turned close to 120 laps in it and it was still going strong(accept the shocks and springs that is)...and i think thats why i missed it as i could hammer it there, all round the track all weekend and back again without it missing a beat....[:)]

Mark, great to hear you got there and back in one piece and had some fun lappery at the same time.

Can't wait to see the pics of the red beast taming the Ring [:)]

You're a brave man lapping in that [:D] - was it TF or a trackday?

It was a TF weekend hence the guy in his kebab van behind me,

I did look at RMA trackdays but they always seem to fix there dates late in the year when the weather starts to come in and i cant see the point in paying £800. for a weekend of wet laps plus i always enjoy the different types of vehicles around on the TF days.
Thats for me being Brave i think i have to give the award to this Guy http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee119/spicster1974/DSC_0486.jpg
Hes MAD...

Look what just appeared in my Inbox from Mark [:)]

The car is looking really low with very little roll [8D]

[][][]....Those are to signify massive jealousy you guys!!!
Nice write ups and pics. Must be unbelievable when you pull up there for the first time and then when you go out for your first session. I bet the butterflies are going bananas at that point! :p:p:p

You cannot believe how scary it is first time - especially when you are passengering an experienced 'ringer [:-] - all the blind crests, blnd exits, & he just powers on through because he knows what's coming...

you have to see it to believe it - diving down fuchsrohre is about my favourite bit on the whole circuit - huge adrenaline rush! [:D][:D]

Is that the bit they call "foxhole"? if so you are brave, that bit scares the living d-lights out of me,my favoutite bit is the easy uphill bit out of the right hander up to the carousel, that place has a definite "effect" i can't stop thinking about it.......

It's certainly scary in the wet [:-] - but aren't the scary bits on most tracks the most satisfying somehow? (Craner for example [:D])

Having been through there in the 'ring taxi at 245kmh, 4 up, I know you can get through there pretty quickly. You just have to get the line right, don't lift through the compression & hang on! [:D]

I was hitting around 130 (on the speedo) through there - that's about all I could pluck up the courage for. I bet your red car could reach some speeds down there if you kept your foot planted on the way down [:D]

130.....!!!I am in a total other league of slowness, just too much of a chicken to even think about that, the ring taxi sounds like fun, would love to see if i could get a spot on that next vist, the lads that went with Sabine were giving rave reviews and she was really giving them a good "show" with some sideways action, whilst waving to people at the same time!!It really is a special place and one day if and when i get to retire i would love to take it up properly and vist regularly ...hoh hum..we'll see..for now i would love to go back late this year or early next, would love to rent one of those Suzuki swifts they looked like fun and seemed to stick like glue!My car pulled really nicely up the hills and out of bends but i lack the experience and bottle for now to leave it nailed.Loved doing a stack of miles over the weekend, seemed to be constantly putting fuel in..[:D]

It's all relative though - I bet a good driver would be 150+ through there in my car. TBH I've had more fun passengering in cars other than the ring taxi - he was fast, but was driving at around seven tenths (not suprising being 4 up in a 2 tonne barge [;)])

Fantastic write up Mark and I'm glad you enjoyed the trip :) We really did have a great time - was a nice bunch of people to spend time with.

Would love to have you along in September - I haven't laughed so much in ages!

As for Foxhole - it scares the living daylights out of me too - hitting the speed into the compression is one thing, it's dealing with the consequences of carrying all that speed on the exit that it is REALLY scary!

Thanks[:)]!!!Just got a massive disc of piccys from one of the guys, will spend whole weekend looking at them i bet!

Ah happy memories of the 944 Register 20 year anniversary Tour to the factory and Ring back in 2003. Tony.F had a camera in the car and you could clearly hear his audible exhalation as he went through the compression []

If the camera had smell-o-vision you would probably detect the staining of his upholstery at the same time [;)]

Hes MAD...

Only if he rolls it [&:][&:]

Mark

Great report, jealous I am, I`ve been meaning to break my `ring duck for 6 years but there`s always a holiday, break elsewhere, car not running, work etc in the way.

I must do it, I must. These sorts of reports make you want just say `sod it` I`m off..now!
