My Turbo might be for sale!

There is the potential for me to move to the dark side (964) hence my beautiful red 1991 944 turbo may well be for sale in the not too distant future.

Toe in the water exercise here first before offering it further afield, not that I really want to sell her, but unfortunately needs must if i am to get that aircooled fix.

Will post the full list of work done etc shortly, but much of it is documented somewhere in these pages, just search under my name.

Very briefly, in the last 18 months it has had lower front wings and sills stripped, repaired as required and repainted with stonechip etc. The windscreen was removed to repair slight bubbling under the rubber trim on the leading edge of the roof and the roof and sunroof panel were then repainted in entirety. In the last month I have had the headlamp covers and the front badge panel stripped and repainted to remove the stonechipping. The results are a very clean, smart and shiny red (ie not pink!) 944 Turbo that has none of the endemic rust issues now affecting many of these cars.

Mechanically, she is in excellent health with very healthy compressions on all cylinders (150psi) and decent oil consumption (ave 1/2 litre per 1000 miles, well within Porsche specs) and thanks to the proactive (make it as good as possible, within reason!) maintenance/improvement approach taken by its slightly insane owner, anything worn or otherwise below par has been replaced or upgraded.

For an objective opinion of the car, you could ring Jonny Holland or Danny at Unit 11 in Warrington, who would tell it as it is!

I have a huge file of invoices and receipts, dating back to 1993, with a disproportionately frightening number of them falling under my ownership! The car is also on its second service record book, the first one being full of stamps.

Oh, and both the clock and the Air condition work - yes, really!![:D]

In the last 18 months (6000 miles) the car has had the following (deep breath [8|]):

New disks and pads all round - pads are Porterfield fast road/track pads
Steel braided flexible brake hoses all round
ATE SUperBlue brake fluid
New handbrake shoes both sides plus 2x rear handbrake cables
New sunroof seals x 2
Rear hatch seal
Brand new Bilstein Cup suspension with new springs - rear torsion bars reindexed to suit (VERY IMPORTANT!)
New rear axle mounts
New 3" exhaust
Lindsey Racing 300hp kit fitted - chips, Manual Boost controller, Bosch 3 bar fuel pressure regulator, Bailey DV30 BOV etc
New neoprene vacuum pipes throughout - no more boost leaks!
Full suspension geometry alignment & corner weighting.
Rear cam carrier gasket
New cam, balance, PAS & alternator belts
New gearbox linkage bushes and all greased - nice slick gearchange!
New Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta road tyres - 225/40 & 265/35 on 18" RH GT3 replica rims
New caliper hard pipes
Calipers checked for plate lift and cleaned.
New rear load compartment light/switch

New Bosch wiper blades!
New Osram headlight bulbs - much better than the standard 'candles'!
New Lucas reconditioned alternator
New ignition leads
New rotor arm
New distributor cap
New DME relay!
New steering shaft
New 968 front castor mounts
New fuel filter and 2 connecting fuel pipes
Cambox removed to replace broken exhaust manifold stud - new studs throughout plus new gaskets, oil, antifreeze etc
New rubber door window scraper seals on both sides
New drivers door seal
New A/C condensor - did I mention that the A/C actually works?!![:)]
Separate VDO boost gauge fitted
Gearbox oil changed - fully synthetic Sylkolene
Racers Edge top mounts fitted to front struts - original standard ones still available if required.
Last service was Sept 08 with new plugs, oil and filters - only done 2500 miles since.

Front splitter fitted in place of original undertray - original available if required.

Leather seats fully refurbished in the last 2 weeks

Couple of pics but loads in the 944 forum:

964 , are you sure, when I was thinking air cooled they were the lowest priced relatively and that say's something to me, 3.2 or 993 seemed a better prospect.

whatever you do Nick- don't give it away. You should get a good price for this car. A 964 might just be a little dull after this though - great noise, but a bit tame...

Nick - Biggest mistake i ever made was to sell my 944 turbo and 968 CS to goto a 911 3.2 carerra 3.2.

Great car the 3.2, lovely sound, but not as inspiring to drive as my 944 T.

If you thought maintainance on a 944 was expensive, the 3.2 was madness !!

If anyone is looking for a turbo I doubt there is a better one out there than Nicks; It really is a belter. I had the pleasure of following Nick on a drive recently and it was a pleasure to see such a lovely car on the road.

Why, bless you Sir!

Had a 964 C4 a few years back and have had a hankering for a 964RS ever since - just have to settle for a 964 C2 initially!

Don't believe all of the 964 horror stories - as with our cars, find a good one and they can be superb... find a rough one though and, well you know the rest!

It's certainly a bloody nice car.

Now for the big question: Will your 964 be red?

(I know, the real big question is "how much?", but I'll leave that for someone who is actually interested in buying "¦)

Fair point I've never had one, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but to me they look plain ugly from the rear, weren't they also one of the most expensive 911's to service, other than the noise I can't see any good reason to swap unless it's to a RS or turbo.

Oli your thread is here! You know you want it really.

Price, sadly, seems about right. That RPM car is still kicking about at around 7.5 and one must assume that's a decent car.

With the work in it it really ought to break 5 figures but sadly, not at the moment.

Only saving grace is that the market hits the 964 too.

David,

I know it is, but decency is preventing me from pointing out that if it was blue and an S2 instead of red and a turbo, Nick wouldn't be so much as contemplating buying that 964! [:D]

Nick

I think the price is bang on - but you may take a while to sell. I don't think there are many people shopping for well kept 951's

Most people looking for 951's seem to want to pay 3-4k (and then will end up spending more than that to get the cars halfway decent).

If you're tempted to give it away for silly money let me know before you do [:D]

Sure Ed, just don't go holding your breath! [;)]

Woah! I've seen it , heard it, but not been for a ride in it (yet) and I have to say this is one of the very best cars around.

Whoever buys it will not be disappointed [8D] (and will not be back on here a few days after purchase asking how to fix this n that etc)

Good luck with the sale Nick. I was testing 964's just before I bought my Turbo, they didn't scratch my itch nearly enough to tempt me away from 944s maybe an RS would though?

I know, but you will soon be posting on here talking of a strange sense of semi-berevement and asking whether anyone has a good 944 turbo to sell, or possibly to part-exchange against a 964 (cash their way, natch), and I don't want to be too cruel to you in advance of such a thread ...

In all seriousness, all the best with selling it and I that the 964 is what you want it to be. Every 911 I have driven has left me slightly cold so it wouldn't be my cuppa tea, but that's neither here nor there.

Are you mad? Yours is one of the best cars out there. A very sad state of affairs that the market can not appreciate the difference between your car and the others out there. []

Is there no way of keeping both, just on the offchance that you change your mind in 6 months?
