Nearly new year drive 28th December

Mike, best of luck with the GT3, I do hope you'll still speak to us all [;)]
It's been great having you along at many of our trips over the years... (you can still come obviously)

Mike
We all look forward to hearing what you think about the GT 3 its very different to the Turbo.

Crikey, are Porsche doing discounts on white cars at the moment?[:D] Enjoy Mike (it's Carrara, btw![;)]) and hope to see you on track and at some events in the New Year. Have fun!

Thanks for the good wishes guys. The turbo has gone and I'm now the proud owner of a new GT3.[:D] Done 70 odd miles this afternoon and got it filthy already, but it is certainly growing on me as the miles go by. Pleased that the car came shod with corsas which are reckoned to give better grip in the wet. Will report chapter and verse with spec and photos in due course but initial differences are of course the power, heavy clutch, short shift and the brakes which give tremendous confidence. However, have managed to stall it a few times; it's not quite so forgiving as the turbo. The exhaust howl is pure music once the sport button has been pressed, just wonder why you have to keep pressing the button rather than it being the default setting. Can't wait to get buckled up and out on track - still I've a few months now to get really familiar with the car first. Pleased I managed to save the vat increase and struck a good deal with the PC to have it registered before the end of the year to meet their all important sales target.[:)]
Regards.

Saw a white GT3 heading up towards Bicester on the 4011 late morning today. Reg No. 911 **.

I pulled respectfully to the side to allow it to howl on it's way unimpeded. Although only afforded a fleeting glimpse, it looked the business.

Happy New Year!

O dear, I've been spotted [] Didn't you see the sticker in the back window? "Running in, please pass". Glad you approve, and a Happy New Year to you, Nick.

I've got the sticker that say, 'limited to 198mph- please pass' [;)]

That would make an awesome sticker Gary. However, 198 mph is incorrectly listed on wikipedia as the official 997.1 Turbo top speed - it should be 193 mph - although I am sure most stock cars can get over 200 on the speedo (as per Clarkson). I think you need the gearing changed on the Turbo to get actual 200+ mph. Also, I think the tyres are only approved up to 193.

Sorry for the tangent...

Ah.....thought it was you but as I was going the other way our closing speed must have been around 119mph (or possibly 99mph on that section) so I didn't have much time to check. And you might not have recognised me coming towards you like this.......

You had just passed the end of our road so if this is part of a regular drive, we could meet up some time.

Cheers

Nick

PS I might want to discuss Diesel Cayennes at some stage (not here of course...pax Gary/Alan!)

Nick,
Yes, I remember the RS5 now coming the other way. Reminds me of my RS4 Avant I had a few years ago. Great cars. Thats my route to the gym at Aylesbury- a bit of a detour I know, but is a great road, albeit now frustrating that part of it is down to 50. I'll give you a shout next time I'm about at a weekend and me can meet up.
Regards, Mike.

Mike/Nick (and other locals) - we should definitley get together for a drive soon if you are about. My Porsche apparently has a loose bushing that needs Chris F's attention probably next week - but after that I am itching to get out. Drop me an email if you are free...
