New 991

ORIGINAL: dereksharpuk

I like the interior.
The drive is too boring. Definately not involving!
I hear that those who have purchased one and want to bail out have been seriously burnt by poor residuals.

It's only been a month or so since the 991 has been on the road, so why would someone want to bail after such a short time?
It's always going to be the case that you will loose the VAT as soon as you drive any new car out of the showroom, in theory at least
and with an average 95k sell price that makes close on 20k.

However, I don't agree that one loses the VAT. That is definately a ploy to fool customers. One always sells a car for what one can get for it. Ferrari 458s and Audi Q3s are being bought back by dealers for list!

They're not....., a year old and lucky if a dealer will give you 175K for it, true a small loss in the big picture of things.

What I don't understand is why three 991 demo vehicles are already being advertised on the Porsche Approved Used Car Locator, 2 of which say they will be available for sale in March. Why would they not be kepts as demo vehicles for longer ??! The other is available from June. Are they really demo vehicles?

And there are 10 991s on Pistonheads if you exclude the 2 GTSs mis advertised all around 90k so in the case of private sellers that must mean at least 10k less for a trade in value and even less for cash. If this is the situation now what will it be like in the spring when demand will rise?

The state of the ecomony is such that luxuries have to fall down the priority list of those who have over-stretched themselves. The prestige car market is slow, new and used.

To go back to the beginning of what I said I just don't like anything about the new car think when I'm ready to change il be buying another 993 turbo and think the faster I find another that I like the better cause I think these new991 will be worth very Littie very fast while there no stoping the 993 there going up in value every time I look but then again there the best Porsche ever bulit when Porsche meant something not like today when they row of 100,000 a week ha ha

Sorry, but it's a very different conversation if your buying the car based on values and costs. [&:]
The 993 is very favoured with the beards and bean counters [;)], where the newer models do indeed lose money quicker than before- however the 993 was from a very different decade in both money and technology.
I think as more people drive the new car the true spirt of the 991 will come through.

Not quite that many showing. Of the 12 quoted on PH, only 4 appear to be actual cars. The remainder are "virtual" cars, GTS's, a wanted ad. or an ad. for a cherished registration number.

But as I said in separate thread on 991 forum, the latest word from a very reliable source is that, since launch, take up of the new model has been disappointing.

Regards,

Clive.

Judging by the queue of beautiful girls lining the red carpet at Leeds OPC as I arrived for my test drive last week, falling over themsleves to offer me a fancy coffee and a bun, they ain't selling many at all. Believe me, I'm just not that good looking. [8|]

Not swapping the GTS for one just yet then?[;)]

No. In fact I was really disappointed with the 991 in a number of ways:

Good:
Handling is good and the character is very different with the sense of it leaning on the front wheels a lot more. PDK is fanbloodytastic. Cabin is not as plush as I feared thank god. But:

Bad:
Don't like the fake exhaust noises.
Cabin is too wide so has lost that focused feel.
Steering not an improvement.
It lumbers about a bit despite the loss of weight.

Big surprise (and let-down):
No quieter nor more comfortable than my GTS with Sport suspension -20mm. Could have been down to the Pirelli PZeros, but every review has gone wild about the NVH and it just wasn't improved one tiny bit.

Felt really good to get back in the GTS with its poverty Alcantara and pleblon dash and that wonderful agility.... [:)]

I find it interesting that people assume the 991 is bigger. More spacious inside perhaps and a longer wheelbase 'tis true.
But:
GTS Length 4435
991 Length 4491

GTS Width 1852
991 Width 1808

GTS Height 1300
991 Height 1295
can't agree the 991 lumbers about though [:D]
But still, if I'd bought a GTS I would have been more than happy with my choice.

Yes, it's only the interior space seems wider. There really isn't much in it.

Probably down to mine having the Sport Suspension and sitting lower

Both decent cars, no doubt about it.

Now I have read a lot about the 991, seen it, sat in it, heard it, listened to people who own it and lastly heard face to face way people think of it , I feel the same as I did to start with as follows:

It's what was expected not what I had hoped for, ( i wish it looked a bit more excitng) where the new Boxster is really very nice, and more exciting to look at.

It's quite a jump in £ even though as many point out that you get more spec, but you don't have a choice

Its drifting more towards a Merc SL tourer

I want my second car to be more exciting, and shout at me

But for me importantly I have now spoken to quite a number of people who have stood by the car and said " never noticed it", my god if I have just spent near on £90k on a special car I want people to go wow !

But then we all have different reasons to own a Porsche

I agree with what you say here. However C2S variants are never meant to be hardcore in looks or performance IMO. If my 997 C2S was anything to go by, it was a superb, cabable, fast, comfy and quite practical every-day car. And I think by the sounds / looks of it, the 991 C2S does all of these things...just MUCH better ! Only problem is (and I agree), it does seem to be much more expensive (on average £94k ???) [:(]

I have fallen into same trap of asking myself "current car or 991 C2S" (not that I could afford one by the way). But it's not a fair comparison as I love my Turbo for being a bit more "special" (as I have a diesel BMW for the day job now). So I think only when same variant of the 991 is available should we make this comparison.... And then contemplate the price difference to change [&:]
