New Car Collection

Got a pair of new headlights on order from Porsche as it will need the LHD ones removed to get it MOT'd before I can register it in the UK with the DVLA.

No need, just mask the wedge on the lens with tape to flatten the beam.

A couple of points :

It won't pass the MOT with masked lenses
Why would I spend a lot of money on a genuine car to skimp on a pair of Correct RHD headlights?

But maybe that's me [;)]

It will 100% definitely without a doubt pass an MoT with masked lenses.

Thought you might want to keep it original.

Sorry, just being helpful.

Lovely car.

M.

Appreciate you being helpful, but I'm happy to pay a small amount to keep the lights correct for UK roads. I won't be sellng the original lights, they will be boxed up and put into storage (not that the car will be getting sold in the near future)

I was told that masked lights wouldn't pass, but I'm not an MOT tester so will bow to your knowledge on this [:)]

Very, very nice sir! Looks like a great buy and will be something truly rare/unique on blighty roads. The Bilstein Cup suspension may be interesting on our roads though, but then that could always be revalved I guess...

Have fun!

No worries, let's hope the gezzer who told you that isn't an MoT tester, or he needs to go away and read the testers' manual again[;)]

Indeed.

The standard way to convert RHD lights on 1980s cars before you drove over to France was a bit of sticky tape from Halfords. Why that wouldn't be the same to convert LHD lights to UK spec I don't get?

Either way, converting them properly and saving the originals is a better option. [:)]

This is my last post on here for the foreseeable future. I am logging off for my own sanity.

I bought a 944 Turbo Cup car that I have wanted to own for a long while but either was unable to find the right car or wasn't in a position to be able to fund the car due to other commitments and cars.

My attitude when I buy a car is to make it the best I can with the funds available. This is who I am and what I have done with all my cars since I was a teenager. Not everyone can afford or has the desire to do this and that is their decision. Some people go for performance, some go for modifications and others go for detailing and concours. I am in the detailing/originality group and will make subtle mods if I think they improve the car for my tastes. I try to buy the best I can afford and use recognised Specialists to maintain my cars which in my opinion adds to the cars providence and hopefully helps to maintain or increase their value. It's not about the future profit, just having the most reliable, solid and mechanically maintained car I can own.

If I am coming across as arrogant that is not my intention, but also I do not do 'botch jobs' or cheap gets rounds and fitting tape to my headlights to use it on the road in my opinion is a cheap fix that is not what you do to a car of this value and rarity. Why would I skimp on ÂŁ90 headlights when the rest of the car has been maintained and looked after so well by the previous owners?

Enjoy your cars however you use and maintain them [;)]

Wot?? [&:]
Maybe it's just me but I didn't see anyone having a go at you here?

Don't listen too much to the moderator, you know all these guys driving S2s suffer from a superiority complex [:D][;)]

Who gives a fig about the headlights - let the bloke do what he wants to do! If he wanted to save money he'd not have bought the car in the first place.

It's the holy grail of Turbos and comes with a fantastic provenance as well as a large amount of differences over the standard car and people want to talk about it's headlights???

Hopefully when Martin has recovered from his trip he'll see the light [&:] . . . Erm, I mean . . . Come round to giving us more pics and details. [:D]

Is that aimed at me? I'd rather you had the courteousy to talk direct rather than to make snide comments? []

I have no idea where Martin's comments came from. This is probably the most interesting car to hit the forum for years.

So far as I can see, this thread is all about a really great car we all need to read more about. If we can't comment on things like the LHD lights though, then what's the point of a forum?

It was aimed at you but I added smileys, it was purely tongue in cheek. But sorry if you took it differently. I also have an S2 Btw.

Not easy to judge humour or otherwise from behind a keyboard, I see by your avatar you've lightened up Thom, not long ago on another forum you suggested my amphibian reference was racist much to my surprise. [;)]

Quite odd that you are resurfacing this here and now, in a completely different context. You have to admit though that your beating about the bush about building a 3L turbo or not has lasted for so long that seeing you post about it here and there over the years raises questions on your actual motivation, and in this context your supposedly tongue in cheek remarks can be taken as taking the pi$$. Hopefully this clear things up between us, though again I think it's odd you are bringing this here in a completely different context.

Martin, I, for one, am very interested in your new car and what you are going to do with it. Wouldn't worry about what other people think you should or shouldn't do. The bare bones are it's yours, you found it, you travelled to collect it, you bought it, they didn't.

If the biggest concern is about some stickers on headlights then you've bought a good un :) Hahahaha.

It's only words at the end of the day, usual stuff for forums. Hey! Have you read the comments on most YouTube videos? ..... Jeeeesh!! :)

Please keep on posting I would like to get to know and see more...... This, is what forms are really all about :)

Is it just me or has this thread taken some massive and perverse twist somewhere in the middle? Did the clocks changing make everyone grumpy?

Martin, your new car looks fantastic and is certainly very interesting. I would be very interested to see interior pictures and to understand the features that make a Cup car so special.

Hoping the peculiar twist in this thread is not the end of news on this car and I hope everyone restores their good humour.
Cheers and have fun,
Mick

It would seem to have done - most odd ! [&:]

That's a fantastic looking car Martin and what a great adventure to be able pick it up and bring it home like that - really hope we hear more about the car and your plans for it. [:)]
