New member today. [:)] Residing on the Isle of Wight.

I hope I can attach the `required by law` pic of the car. Recently acquired 997.2 Turbo, PDK. Previous car for 2 years was a 997.1 4S manual and before that my first Porsche, a 996 C2 manual.

Welcome, how are you on with the turbo?

Did you manage to sort out the niggles including the rear tyre?

 
Not done a deal of mileage apart from the drive home from Glasgow but loving it all the same. [:D]

Had a word with the OPC and they agreed a new tyre but I have accepted the other points were all within the levels they set.

Still a happy bunny.

after being member of the PCGB for approx. 4 months I feel as if I really have to introduce myself. As I´m from Germany please go gently with me regarding the language. I live near Frankfurt (in a town called Bad Homburg to be precise) but bought my car in 2015 (pre-owned 997 Turbo S, Gen II, 3 years old) from the Porsche Centre Stuttgart which is right opposite the Porsche Museum on one side and the factory where it was built on the other side. Perhaps some of you, who have been to the Porsche Museum know the huge roundabout……..that´s exactly where the Porsche Centre Stuttgart is. To be honest, it feels a bit special having bought the car there [:)] and that´s also why I had to take a picture in front of the museum (last picture below).



Some of you might wonder why I chose to be member of a British Porsche owners club and why not a German one. Reason is, that my favourite country for holidays is the UK (mostly the Bournemouth area in summer and the Peak District in spring or autumn) and that being a member of PCGB is the best way of combining my two favourite hobbies UK and Porsche. First time I got in touch with PCGB was at the National Event in 2015 at Althorp House…..it was amazing and I liked it very much. And by the way I already bought tickets for the Silverstone Classics in 2017 as a part of the Porsche club display.



But now the car: as mentioned above it is a MY2012 997 Turbo S, Gen II, basalt black metallic, black leather interior. It already has a very good factory spec (including PDK, PCCB) but the previous owner obviously took a closer look into the options list and therefore nearly everything is covered with leather (sports seats back rest, rear section of center console, PDK gear selector gate surround, more parts of the dashboard, sun visors and so on), the PCM is painted in silver as other bits of the interior already are (for example the door handles)…really looks good….it has the 3-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles and regarding the exterior the side skirts, the lower part of the front spoiler and the lower part of the back (how do you call these body parts?) are painted in exterior colour.



But the thing is how it goes. Acceleration as never experienced before (no wonder coming from an old Merc and my wife´s Fiat Punto) and driving top-speed is really a sensation. Fortunately on our German autobahn you are allowed to do so and therefore I maxed it twice. But honestly you really can do this only in the middle of the night or on a Sunday morning very early when the autobahn is empty……..in every other condition it´s simply too dangerous.

Hi all After some months of pondering, agonizing, trawling the forums and trolling dealers I finally pulled the trigger and collected my car from OPC Leicester on Saturday. It's a 2010 997.2 C4S with 25k miles and 2 previous owners. It's real tidy with added options such as sport design steering wheel, PSE, Chrono, sport seats, Bose and turbo wheels. I had never contemplated getting a 997 as up until now I had always considered that it would feel too old especially as I have become used to new BMWs and the excellent toys that come with them or can be added. I had every intention of waiting for 'cheap' 991.1 to arrive at Cambridge OPC sometime in the future having really been well looked after during my search for the right car. I saw Leicester OPC had a good selection of used cars so figured I would go take a look. When I saw this car it was sat in a showroom next to much newer models and in particular an early 991 2013 launch silver C4S with higher mileage and a sticker price of £20k more. However, this car just looked the nuts and did not look out of place being sat among the room full of GTS models, Targas, GT3s, GT4s and Spyders. The only obvious thing standing out was the price so I requested a test drive and within an hour agreed to buy the car. The 2013 car was lovely but I just could not justify pushing the budget to reach it when a similar experience could be had for less. (On reflection arguably better) I did consider the Caymans but my larger size would have struggled for comfort on those longer journeys. I still think the new 718 is a brilliant car. The OPC have been absolutely brilliant working hard to meet my needs and on the day of collection made it feel like I was driving out with a £160k new Turbo. The whole experience has been just brilliant. Driving the car some 70 miles home served to reaffirm my decision to pick this car. Not only does it look the nuts it drives like it was brand new. The noise, the speed and the ease with which it can be driven makes it somewhat of a mind bending experience. I don't miss the tech at all, in fact I am now of the opinion that having much more might only serve to dilute the experience. I might miss stuff in the months to come but right now I don't even know if the stereo works properly or if I really need it!

I got called into work this morning much to my disappointment as I had plans! I thought about taking the daily but picked up the Porsche keys and set off. Sunrise and a deserted A142 is my new favorite place. The commute will be boring tomorrow by comparison :(

I spoil the pictures with my goofy presence but I love the look of the car ;) I hope to meet some of you soon!

Congratulations, you won't regret it, I don't and I have a 5 Series with all the toys also. The 997 is addictive, the 5 Series is functional.

Picked up my 5th 911 (and 6th Porsche) last week.

All 4 of my previous 911's have had to have either there engines replaced or re-built, so I'm homing this one will break the jinx I have.

I started with a 1970 2.2E, then a 1983 3.0 Carrera, upwards to a 1975 3.0 Turbo, then after that blew up I moved away from the brand for years. I came back with a a 2003 2.7 Boxster (for my wife) and a 3.6 facelift 996 Cabriolet for myself.

With 2 x M96 engines in the house I was asking for trouble and sure enough, after 1 year of ownership a valve seat came loose and was duly eaten by the engine. After replacing the engine, the coffin arms, tuning forks, condensers, flywheel and clutch, IMS, RMS, AOS..... I'd spent £12K maintaining a £14K car. Time to go I thought.

So I'm now the proud owner of a Gen 2 997 PDK and what a difference.

At first I was nervous because the engine sounds like a combination of a VW beetle, a large sewing machine and some spanners in a distant tumble drier. Horrible. If it was a 996 your credit card would be squirming with the pending hit it's going to take. As soon as I picked it up I drove it around to Porsche Torque who were local to the dealer (and have done all the work on my 996 - cant fault them), and he said that they all sound like that..... Still nervous I checked out a few youtube vids and sure enough they all sound equally crap.

I'm sure I'll grow to love the noise - I had the same with an open clutch noise on my old Ducati 916 years ago. Took me months to get use to it and 2 years to love the sound. Sawing machine or not, putting your foot down is a different story. The power delivery though the PDK is absolute linear. You get pushed back in your seat and you stay there, there is no gear change - well it is changing but you cant feel it. Because of the PDK (and more power) it literally goes like a scalded cat with a rocket up its arse. If I've still got my licence in a years time I'll be amazed. I'm still waiting for the first thing to go wrong, which with past experience could be any second as I still have 996 paranoia - you know, you hear the sound of a single rain drop on the roof and your instantly start arranging a 10 grand bank loan to cover the repair. Touch screen sat nav is nice, and it's also nice to have nav info on the rev counter, but there is no bluetooth audio, so it's back to the old AUX lead. Very retro. It's surprisingly comfortable as well, the seats are more Jag than park bench and the ride is good even with 19" wheels and 30 profile tyres. I'm still pressing the ashtray to open the window - why move the switch? but when the window is open I can hear the bloody sawing machine again so it's best kept shut. I've done just under 450 miles in it now (not bad for less than 5 days since I got it) and on the motorway it's silent, comfortable and I got 41mpg. Overall I'm averaging 32mpg. Basically, I'm completely in love with it and cant wait for the chaps at the DVLA to sort my plate so it can be the 7th car to have V19FLY on it. 7th time lucky?

Hi Les, lovely car and am liking those wheels! Think you deserve a break from the garage from what I read over in the 911uk forums. Cold starts and tick over isn't exactly the 911 strong point but pushing it on will never fail to bring on a smile :) I am new to the whole experience and am really starting to appreciate what the fuss is all about with these cars. :) Wishing you good fortune with your new P&J!

I have now received my membership pack, which is lovely, but I have a burning question .......

Where is the accepted position for the window stickers ?

I don`t want to get it wrong, turn up at a meet only to be shamed for having them in the wrong position [;)]

 
Some say centrally but I think most put them down the left hand side (as per photo). I haven't been shamed yet.....well, not to my face! (Taken before the licence holder was removed![:)])

 
And Alan is also showing the correct alignment of the Porsche Shield on the wheel centres to the tyre valves. [:D]

 
Any excuse for Alan to show off his shine! :rolleyes:

Unfortunately centre-lock wheels don't allow you to align the shields with the tyre valves. [:eek:]
