New members welcome and photos

Hi All

First post so go gentle with me.

I'm Matt and im from Welton - just North of Lincoln and have just joined the R4 region so looking forward to getting to know local members.

Always fancied a weekend car and my progression has happened pretty quickly.

Mk1 Golf GTI - Soft top (always wanted 1)

then

Honda S2000 - something different

now

Porsche 911 997 Carrera 2S

Only had it 2 weeks and still blown away by the performance. I wanted a specific model, really wanted the Chrono spec and sunroof was a want as well, so had to travel to sunny Hereford to pick this up. Very happy with it, although 1st engine warning light has come on - suspect its coil packs but visit to 911 Sports in Horncastle planned for this week.

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the Register! If you've not already done so give the Clubhouse a call to ensure you are on the 997 Register email list. That way you will receive the periodic emails regarding events etc. that you may like to join.

Hope you are still loving your new 997.

Clive

Looks great Matt.

Very similar in appearance to my silver bullet :)

Hope to see you around at one of the club events in furure.

Happy motoring.

Tam.

Good Morning Dom, can i get your take on the Capristo Exhaust, I have a 997.1tt and its a minefiled out there for exhausts. I want an exhaust that i know it has been changed from stock and on the clips the Capristo has stood out to me along with the FVD. Have you noticed the torque gains from it?

Regards steve

New member in Kent here. Second Porsche, I bought a cheapish 2002 986 Boxster 2.7 in June to use mainly for a few track days, as my S5 convertible wasn't quite the right tool. After bringing it up to scratch maintenece wise and was really pleasantly suprised what a great car its turned out to be.

In September my S5 went into Audi for a minor service and a couple of bits to be looked at under warranty (it was a used approved 2011 model purchased in Januray). After investigation they tell me want to apply a software update to the gearbox but can't because there is a map on the engine and therefore it wouldn't be covered under warranty. I reply that it must have been there when I bought it as I haven't done it. Long story short I am being refunded because they can't honour the warranty so I decided that the 911 itch needed to be scratched.

The £25k from the Audi put me firmly in 997 bore scoring possibilty land so I decided to stretch my budget a bit and bought this lovely 2010 gen2 a 4s pdk with cruise, chrono, nav, bluetooth, ipod connection bose, extended leather and paddle steering wheel. I picked it up a week ago and have only driven it a couple of times as I use a van for work every day but first impressions are now I realise why I have always wanted one its simply fantastic and a vast performance upgrade from the S5.

Congratulations, lovely shine on it too. Looks to have had some very beneficial detailing. [:)]

Thanks Clive, just gave a quick wash and wheels off clean, a polish will come soon, I am cursed with finding Deatiling World a couple of years ago so that shine can still be improved...

Hi,

yes I have had the Capristo for about six months now and I love it. The car is pretty much standard except for a couple of items that I felt would improve the car such as a pipercross panel filter, carbon intakes and air box to allow a little more air and the exhaust. The car was dynoed before and after the fitments purely to make sure everything was operating as it should and I have even gains of +53hp on a cool day. The mid range torque when the exhaust is closed is more responsive for definite and when open the noise from the turbos is stunning. Everyone wants to chat about the car, which can be a bit of a pain!

The capristo is built beautifully compared to many other manufacturers and I felt it wasn't just a style modification such as some of the other brands.

Draw backs- very costly! Slightly louder or deeper than stock but liveable compared to other brands.

Overall great modification. I would do it again. Sounds like a GT2 car. Oh and the tailpipes are brilliant in ceramic black finish, so no more burnt tailpipes!

im in Bromley if you wanted to have a look at the car and hear it sometime. It away in Asia presently until the end of November. if you have a mobile number I'll send you a video of the exhaust on whatsapp.

Thanks for the reply, I realy like the valved option, and with you likening it to the GT2 sound. Capristo do claim good gains on there systems and with your dyno its not just them trying to sell. would love to see your clips on Whats app if you have a second.

Nice, but if you want to get into next years 997 register calendar you will need to lose the wheelie bins.....[:D]

Hi all

New first time owner reporting in!

Waiting to take delivery of my new to me 2010 997.2 C4S. It's been a 30 year ambition of mine to get one of these and I finally did it today. I live near Peterborough and bought the car from OPC Leicester after many months of pondering, reasoning etc.

I had no intention of buying the car today and if anything I was keen to dismiss the 997 from my list having up until now not spent any time in one and thinking it would feel too old in comparison to my BMW 420d. Goes to show that the only way to really know is to get up close and personal with these things. Being a new entrant into the brand I was initially looking at the Cayman 718 which I loved but my big frame found it a snug fit to say the least. If anything I was kinda hoping today's visit to the OPC would just confirm that I could not afford a 991 and would have to settle for continued crossing of fingers every lottery draw. Well the 997 ticked so many boxes, the mileage, condition, history, having only done 7k miles in the last 5 years, the warranty etc and when I drove it I understood why some people love the 997 over the 991. I might learn to appreciate the difference more although honestly, at that time for me, the price difference was the real kicker. There was a 991.1 C4S next to it in the showroom but in silver with more miles but 2.5 years newer....for £20k more albeit a launch model with limited spec. I don't know if meteor grey just suits the 997 but it just looked nicer from every angle. At that point the 997 was winning and the 1hr test drive soon nailed it. 30 odd years ago I watched Dick Lovett in Swindon open a new OPC. I used to drive up the M4 from Chippenham, Wilts in my 1.6 Ghia Escort to go and see the 911 Turbo and the 959 (i think it was) in the showroom. I was dreaming then as a teenager and I have been dreaming ever since..today the dream became a reality and I am proper crapping myself!!!

A week to go before I get it. I am both nervous and excited!!! I look forward to being a full member very soon and hope to get involved in some of the events in the future which I am sure only adds to the whole experience of owning one of these cars :) Can't wait!!

Excellent post, well done and congratulations.

Life is short and it's always nice to finally achieve a long-held ambition.

997 is definitely one of the all time great 911 models and meteor grey has been extremely popular within the Register for many years now.

I hope you enjoy many miles of happy and trouble-free motoring. [:)]
