Agree with the sentiments about cam belt and chain. The chain price is cheaper if it is all done at once, as you need to remove the belt to remove the cams to remove the chain (read that again - it does make sense!)
Another good place to find write-ups of common procedures is http://www.clarks-garage.com/. It has an american flavour, but you can read around that ...

£800 looks like a good price for that, do you know why it was abandoned all those years ago? If it was for a known fault, the farmer may know ...

Oli, i have no idea why it was abandoned, he had spent nearly £1000 3 months prior to it being left on brake lines, fuel lines, a new caliper and some other parts which escape me at this time, (reciepts at home) He has many vehicles inc a 996, range rover sport, 2 discoverys and a TVR. He must have just got bored with it. So much for farmers being skint and needing subsidies (no offence if your a farmer reading this)
Yes what you said does make sense, i had to read it again though lol,

Yeah i bought an ex police S70 T5 in 2000 and was bitten, there was no real Volvo scene as you can imagine on the net at that time so i bought a domain and went for it, since then Volvo have backed the site, we have changed with thier permission to what we are now called and it was a hobby. However i wasnt getting dirty so i am bored. A good pal of mine had bought a similar car some months ago for less than i did, it wasnt an S2 mind, and i have been drooling ever since. I have always wanted a Porsche, my father had several 911's etc over the years so i thought i was as good a car as any to have as a project, by chance this car came up through my pal and i handed over the money, i didnt even consider it to be honest.
Hence my background knowledge is being supplied by your good selves
Next question.....

Nice link - I didn't realise there were a couiple of manuals about the Cabriolet hood - they'll be handy for me. One sad note though: the end of life disposal manual. [] Lets hope we never need it. In fact, we should burn it on the barbeque at Ragley!ORIGINAL: xenon
Forget the Haynes manual - waste of time. You can download the official Porsche workshop manuals online: http://www.eucc.dk/
You're looking at about £1k for the cams etc. - at least with my indie - exact price depends on the price of the cams from Germany as he gets then from the same place Porsche do without the markup.

Hi Fen, no - the monster first service is just to go on their lifetime maintenance plan. Even then, you don't have to have everything fixed at that service, it's just that anything you don't have fixed won't be covered.ORIGINAL: Fen
Don't you have to have a monster first service with Hartech though, or is that just to go on their warranty-esque deal? Certainly they seem to have a good reputation though.

They're just on the outskirts of Bolton, between the M61 and M65, so its a bit of a pig to get to from Coventry. They are very good though, they seem to get to know you as a customer, and they certainly know the cars! I was really impressed with the first service I got there, as I ended up with a huge report on the mechanics of the car (8 pages I think) where almost everything was classed as good. Gave me a nice warm feeling!ORIGINAL: xenon
Where are Hartech based? If you do need some cams, let me know. I have a contact who maybe able to get them cheaper than an OPC or an indy.
