I am looking at buying a 997 Gen2, have saved for years for a Porsche, just really need help as to what to look for, re, problems, i am thinking of asking Peter Morgan for an inspection, any info on this service would be much appreciated, and any more help, thanks in advance,
One very nervous but excited man.

buy from someone like 911 Virgin. Thats a very safe place to start... good luck :)

The Gen 2 cars with the dfi engine don't suffer from any common problems so the advice would be much as buying any car - service history, mileage, etc etc. Are you looking for an 'S', cab, targa, GTS, PDK or open minded? There are plenty to choose from so try a few and get a feel for what they are like. I wouldn't discount buying from a Porsche Centre as they will come with a 2 year warranty even if they will be a bit more expensive. For what it's worth my personal choice would be for 2S (or GTS)coupe with PDK (in red!!) depending on your budget. Happy hunting??

Porsche centres n my experience are still a good place provided you check prices and don't pay too much over the odds
ive been very well looked after not only my cars but the Porsche experience "freebies" have been quite frequent and fun !!

Thank you people, Carrera 2s pdk gearbox, chrono sports plus, I would like the PSE and as low mileage as possible, there doesn't seem to be a lot about, maybe i'm looking in the wrong places,
one thing are Porsche warranties transferable from independant dealer to myself if already on the car?

Hi AHG, don't forget your local Porsche dealer can retrofit Sport mode and PSE if the car you look at doesn't have them. I recently retrofitted Sport mode and it was the best 900ÂŁ I've spent on a car in years. It transforms the PDK car. Any 997.2S could be upgraded with Sport mode (engine and gearbox functions of Sport Chrono with Sport and Sport+ buttons also fitted as part of package) and PSE for about ÂŁ3200. Id recommend the 4s for a better all weather drive.

I' don't think an independent dealer is able to transfer the Porsche extended warranty. This can only be done from a PC or from one owner to the next.

You can obtain a new extended warranty after obtaining a 111 point check at your PC. It's ÂŁ180 + VAT, but free if combined with a service. However, you will need to have owned the car for 90-days previously in order to qualify.
Regards,

Clive

An independent dealer cannot offer you a Porsche Warranty but can if agreed with the previous owner get what may remain of the previous owners warranty transferred to you The old owner has to appear to have sold the car to you though.

Thank you for all your help so far, this forum is great for the wealth of knowledge people have to share thanks again to you all .

V good advice above. I recently bought a 997.2 C2S and am very happy with it.

must admit, I wouldn't waste money on a Peter Morgan inspection. instead, spend the same on a good independent who can get the car up on a ramp and do a proper inspection.

Happy to chat through if helpful, drop me your contact number via email/PM.

Which part of the country are you in? We may be able to recommend someone local to you.

I live in West Berkshire, ive got my eye on a car in Coventry that I'm going to see tomorrow but won't make a decision on it until I know more.

P.C.T Porsche Specialists are in Coventry. It could be worth giving them a ring on 024 7640 7770

Hope tomorrow goes well [:)]

I saw this post a bit late but if you head back to Coventry make sure you allow time in your day to visit Dove House Motor Company in Rushden, just off the A45 near Higham Ferrers.....
