Newbiew looking for a 944 Turbo

I'd be inclined to stay away from the black one on eBay at Autohouse in Luton. It was a trade in, pretty much no service history & hasn't had a cambelt or service for a long time. Also the trader sounded dodgy as when I spoke to him!!

Are they not a 944 but for grown ups?

Having driven one I have to say no they are not and this from someone who has a hankering for one too.

I love the 928 but i've never driven one. I'm worried that if i did, i'd be unable to rest until i bought one. What did you think to the one you drove? Was it a manual or auto?

I've had my eye on this one http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C457271# for a while but guess it's no good because it's not sold.

The one I drove was big and comfy - like the Train.

Not a Porsche in the original sense, not a good car in the sense of a sports car.

I'd say it could have been a good car, bin the interior, air-con, auto-box, V8, and replace with a 2.5 turbo, manual box, LSD, Recaro Pole Positions, decent suspension, and it could have been a SOTA sports car even today.

Alas, the Yank market influence and big $ swayed the purity of the Design.

It was designed to be the ultimate intergalactic cruiser - that why its needs air con - well that and the huge glass area!

Even lightened a 2.5 Turbo wouldn't be enough, a 3.6 flat 6 twin turbo would be interesting though.

But Mike the 2.5T could have more power than the twice as big V8, and it would fit beautifully, unlike the Flat 6, unless you are thinking of hanging it out back, in which case the 2.5 will handle vastly better (but have a smaller luggage area)[8|]

They missed a great opportunity to sell some 928's - unlike Porsche, they are usually brilliant at raiding parts bins to make special cars.

They almost did it with the 968T, but the Company were on their knees at the time, and the Customers wanted 993's - understandably [:)]

But this wont solve the search for a 944t.

They are now quite scarce and good ones are appreciating which is the first rule of supply/demand

Hope the OP finds what they want.

George

That's why i need a 928 auto in addition to my S2. One to cruise and savour the sound, and the other to thrash and throw around!

It was an automatic S4 and to be honest I was pretty underwhelmed. It was nice and comfy and an effortless GT car of course but really not much fun. As a second "high days and holidays" car a 944 fits the bill much better imho. That said if I could afford to run a 944 turbo and a 928 at the same time I certainly would !
