No Bridgestones

I've just spoken to Micheldever as my tyres are getting desperate now at the back. Michelin has moved the goalposts once again, at least another month now to wait. They said a month at the end of July..... So I've bitten the bullet and gone with Bridgestones x 4. Even with the rears being 305x19 (N0), I've been quoted interestingly, wait for it....... £911 all in. Would have liked Michelin but can't wait forever [:)] Cheers!

What the tyre depth that most people start thinking about a change on the back, think i need a set of rears before winter sets in, currenly running about 4mm, so still think its a little premature. Thanks

The width of the tyre really does increase the aquaplaning feel when they get down to about 3mm in the wet... [] If you bought through Protyre, I hope they gave you the 10% club discount ? I'd be interested in how you find the Bridgestone in comparison.... just ignore the first 100 miles- they're scary!! [;)] garyw

Found nail in one of my fronts today so good job I'm having them all replaced tomorrow. I have to say Porsche Reading have been pretty good on service today and did seem to go the extra mile. Although it will be a wallet busting bill tomorrow. Well done OPC Reading!

Hello all, I have a 2007 GT3. I need a full set of tyres, and only available option is a set of Bridgestones N1 marked. Any comments or advice please? Fastish road use, occasional trackday. Thanks, Penguinman

I've just ordered a set of Bridgestone RE050A from Kwik Fit for £860 however I'm getting them fitted by the official Porsche bodyshop here due to the centre lock wheels - they're like the Fairy Godmothers of all my cars since I started driving [:D]

Thanks Sunil, sounds like a recommendation to me. I have had PS2's on my revious Cayman S, which I loved, and currently P Zero Rosso's on the GT3, which have been a good compromise for road and track. Any ideas how these compare to the Bridgestones? I can afford to wait a little longer, but not much legal life in the current tyres now. It is particularly good to hear a good report from GT3 user, even if you have the later model. Thanks again, Penguinman

Ooops - sorry but it's not actually a recommendation other than to say that you can get a good deal from Kwik Fit and that I had to get the Bridgestones because I'm desperate. I just can't get any other tyres. I've never used them myself but I've only accepted this compromise because they come recommended by other users. That said, I plan to take heed of Gary's warning to take it easy with them for the first 100 miles. I can highly recommend the manager at Kwik Fit that I use and the Porsche bodyshop who both give excellent service. In fact, my cars are only ever washed at the bodyshop and they always take excellent care of my cars.

Hello again. Yup, I am in the same boat, no others available, but as I said, I can wait a little longer. I have had great service from my OPC also, and when I got the set of PS2's for the Cayman, they were very nearly able to match online prices, so I got them to supply and fit. Worth the extra to know they would look after the wheels, and also lift the car correctly. Good luck. Thinking about it, I mis-read the bit about Fairy Godmothers, I thought you were referring to the tyres! Perhaps when you have done a few miles on the Bridgestones you could give some feedback here? Regards, PM

As posted I run the Bridgestones and really do enjoy and trust them.. They can be described as a little noisier than some makes but I've found them to offer a great all round capacity for wet and dry usage. I use the car for pretty much the same as you describe you'd need them for.. On track they went hot and feathered quite quickly but to be fair they were being leaned on by my heavier than a GT3 car... I do like the feel they give you through the wheel, but they are known to be a heavier tyre than some of the others- reflected in a somewhat stronger sidewall. This is all based on N0, which Protyre have stock on the rears and will order in 3 days the fronts. garyw

My OPC informed me that winter tyres for the GT3.2 are: Front 235/35R19 87V M+S Rear 295/30R 19 100V XL M+S Pirelli winter 240 Sottozero Series 11 N1 I'm certainly not going to be putting snow tyres on the car but I figure that N rated 050A's are fine because they're N rated. I think that some confusion could arise from the fact that they only come from the factory with MPSC/Corsas. I'm having an official Porsche bodyshop change the tyres over because of the centre lock nut so it should be ok. I can't wait to drive it; it's been way too long [:)]

Here's a letter from Mr Dolby why there is a shortage of Michelin tyres: Dear Mr Chew, We are sorry that you could not obtain the Michelin tyres you required for your Porsche. As you are probably aware, the front 225/40 ZR 18 Pilot Sport PS2 N3 front tyre is in good supply at the moment. For a few of the other Porsche tyre sizes, the supply difficulties have been caused by several reasons. This includes the fact that we have had to change specification of the some of our Porsche tyres due to European legislation which dictates that we can no longer use certain aromatic oils in our rubber compounds. Unfortunately this change of specification also coincided with product capacity issues at one of our factories, and then a switch of production to a different factory. The new production factory has taken longer to come fully on stream than we would have liked, and this capacity issue has also coincided with an increased demand in the market for our tyres. We are working towards improving the situation, and this situation only concerns a limited number of products. We anticipate that the supply situation on the rear 996 tyres, 295/30 ZR 18 and 285/30 ZR 18 Pilot Sport PS2 N3s will improve towards the end of October. Once again, we apologise about your difficulties in obtaining the Michelin tyre for your Porsche. If you would like to contact Michelin directly, please ring our Technical Help line on 0845 366 1535. Yours sincerely, Steve Dolby Product Marketing Manager Car, Van & 4x4 _________________________________________________________
