Tried to order a new Cayman S NA six cylinder this morning to be told by my local OPC that they have no further allocation pending the arrival of the 781. Tried another OPC got the same story although he said a dealer somewhere may be able to order one but he doubted it at this stage.

I'm not really surprised Stephen. The 981 is now a run-out model and Porsche need to start preparing the production line at Osnabruck for the new car.

I wonder if they've decided to shift some of the remaining Cayman allocation to meet demand for the GT4 though?

I was told this back in September by the Cardiff OPC when I asked about ordering one. I was told then that there was very little chance any dealer would be able to source a car to my spec.

I got the same story yesterday. Drove a new 911 (with turbos) on wednesday, was ready to buy. Fantastic car but not for me right now (long story), plus the noise/sound wasn't great. So fall, back, another cayman S or GTS, but i cant order one. GUTTED!! Dont really want a 4pot turbo.

Just going to have to keepn a keen eye on the used market. Dealers are trying to get new prices for 12month old cars. MENTAL!

Any idea how much haggle space there should be? Surely there should be 10% off used sticker/advertised?

Have to agree about OPC sticker prices on stock 981's. Received an email from Aberdeen OPC advertising new 981 Boxster 2.7 PDK £48k, and 981 2.7 Cayman PDK £51k.

Both cars had a decent spec, but I agree that haggling a substantial discount would be a given on these run-out models.

I am also not in the least bit interested in 4 pot turbo Caymans.

Update. It's still possible. Some dealers have pre ordered cars for showroom etc. They will sell them. If you order before the lock down date the spec can be changed. I paid my deposit yesterday and go to re spec a GTS via pc Newcastle at the weekend. Factory in March delivery in April. PHEW!

Hatfield pc have a Cayman Sstill re spec able for another month if that helps too.

who would want the car which will go down in history as the worst steering feel Porsche ever made !

better off with finding a mint 987.2 car or going 718 now. 981 was a bit of a no no for me, the steering feel ruined the car and the PCM etc is outdated crap.

"the 718 Boxster features what Porsche describes as a “sportier tuning of the chassis”. Among the changes is a revised electro-mechanical steering system that is said to be 10% more direct than the set-up used on the outgoing Boxsters"

get over the flat 6 missing and I bet the car is much nicer to drive.

I don't understand why so many are saying they're against 4 pot turbos, one of the best driving Porsches was the 944 turbo, I had one for years and it never failed to put a grin on my face.

According to info so far the new cars will have a wide torque band and more power than the 981 and as D says they have done some tweaks to improve the handling and steering feel.

I can hardly wait to take one for a drive, I'me sure that before long many will be saying it's the Boxster and Cayman returned to their Porsche 4 pot roots and hailing how great a drive it is to drive.

On the flip side a friend of mine wrecked his 987.2 Black Edition and went to buy a 981 Black Edition most dismayed to not get any response or even a call back/reply to letters he even wrote to Stuttgart!

Very bad manners of several Porsche OPC's not to inform him they would not be able to supply him with a car and he has now bought a high spec Golf saying that he won't be buying another Porsche....

Porsche OPCs need to brush up on there customer sales side of things with no replies or dodgy allocation of who gets what.

Kevan I feel for your friend but he is not the first disgruntled customer I have heard of.

He is not the first going for another brand.

I'm with D and Kevan on this. There's nothing wrong with a properly developed 4-pot turbo...and Porsche certainly have plenty of turbo experience.

It'll still be a great driver's car - just a different power/torque delivery and sound, that's all.

I ordered my Cayman S in June 2015 for late September build only to be then told at the end of August it would be delayed with no confirmed build date. Then told late November it would be built mid January ready for delivery 1st March. Phew! Nothing against the turbo 4 but for me Porsche has always been about the flat 6. If I wanted a flat 4 turbo, I'd buy a Subaru!

Hi

Have been reading and watching posts , my Cayenne was in for a service and some warranty work early January. I got a courtesy car , a brand new Macan. Now i drove the car for about three weeks as the warranty work took a lot longer than expected.

Ann (my wife) who knows a lot about Porsches and really this thing starts at £43k, was not impressed.

This is a 4 cylinder turbo charged petrol with only one sun visor , yeah only one sun visor. A four cylinder turbo charged engine is a no no for this car, fuel consumption is terrible if you drive this thing fast, a Honda type R is better at a 1/4 of the price . I am just concerned 4 cylinders engines even if they go 2.5 litre turbo charged after driving this would put a nail in the coffin with regards to me buying a Boxster or Cayman even without driven one of them based on the experience with the Macan

Its very interesting - Porsche need to do what Porsche does best and leave the small engine capacity Turbos to the guys who know what they are doing! The Audi 5 Cylinder Turbo is the benchmark in that class and has been number 1 for years and will continue to be so ... even the 4 cylinder found in the smaller TT was a Blast ... Porsche will get their Butt kicked by Audi all day long when it comes to small capacity, high output performance engines .... I so much miss my TT RS - what a car, would give my GT4 a clean pair of heels on a greasy Autumnal B road... thats for sure?!

yep I loved my TTRS also with 430bhp /410lb.ft and a stage 2 tune with modded SUS, was untouchable A to B, was just a bit front heavy and again steering feel was lacking although better than a 981.

Not when the 718 Gen2 GT4RS "Le Mans" hybrid hits the streets, they won't....[;)]

I've borrowed the demonstrator for two full weekends and not had any issues with the steering at all.
