North Wales run

Alan, try to get to Denbigh and then take the A543 south west to the A5 (one side of the EVO triangle route). At the A5 go across onto the B4407 through ybysty ifan - the first 2 miles is abit narrow and uninteresting, but afterwards opens out onto open moorland, barely any traffic and both fantastic road and scenery. I often travel out from Chester just to drive this section and the then easterly leg back across to Lake Bala.

Also worthy is the easterly stretch from just shy of Ffestiniog on the B4391 / A4212 and then north on the B4501 through Cerrigydruddion back up to Denbigh.

Thanks for that, I'll get the map out and propose something this weekend then.
Alan.

Alan, if you look on a certain other forum[;)], in the meets and events section, you will find my routes for the Snowdonia weekends for both last year and the year before [;)]

I'll save you the trouble [:D]

on the last route the section from points 6 to 7 is not for the faint hearted - its a narrow road rising up the side of a glacial valley, good fun though [;)]

Happy New Year! David mentioned this at R18 meet last week, would love to join you, if you would kindly add me to your list, thanks . Albert & Carole (White S/Sport Targa)

Hi everyone
David's route below seems good enough for me, similar to what we did last year, I just need to pen in our route from Cheshire Oaks. Anyone have any ideas so we are not travelling back on oursleves on the same road? I would still like to take in the Horseshoe pass (maybe our 1st stop at Llangollen - or a stop on the way back?)

Finally going thru the maps. I have a route sketched out similar to last year but using the infamous EVO triangle fom Denbigh. Rather than drive all the way to Caernarfon on the way back I was looking at a shortcut on the A498 heading back North from PM to Pen-y-Gwryd then rejoining the A5 just before Betws - David, or anyone else who know this road, what's this road like?

Ok everyone, PROVISIONAL route below. Can someone check it on a map please, er, not that I'm likely to make a mistake of course ;)

OUTBOUND
From Chester OPC
Firstly we'll be heading to Denbigh.
So A551>A550>A494 to Mold.
Turn right on A541 to Denbigh.
Take A543 then after Bylchau take a left onto the B4501 to Cerrigydrudion
Continue over the A5 on the B4501 until it meets the A4212 at Fron-goch turn right
Follow A4212 until it meets the B4391 go right to Ffestiniog
Then follow A496 to A487 into Minffordd taking a left there then right into Portmerion on the private road, castle Deudraeth on your right continue on to the car park and all try to park together!
Anyone delayed (me possibly) can meet up with us at PM and drive with us on the way back.
There is a cafe & a restaurant there to get something to warm us up. Suggest we set off after about an hour, but this can be decided on the day depending on weather conditions.

HOMEBOUND
Back onto the main road A487 left into towrdas Portmadog over the toll bridge, right at onto A498 North just after Portmadog to Beddgelert onto Pen-y-Gwryd right on the A4086 to Capel Curig on the A5.
Right to Betws-y-Coed on the A5
Just after Pentreloelas left left North on A543 to Blychau
Continue on the Denbigh A543/A541 to Buckley A494 Queensferry A5514 to M56 then home!

Hi Alan, route seems fine to me.

The link to the Portmeirion web site for Free "Winter Entry Voucher" page, says "NOT VALID FOR GROUP VISITS". And the link on the web site for Group Visits is blank. Has anyone phoned them to make sure all is OK ?

Cheers
Paul

You just need to follow the link for free entry & everybody completes the details for their own vehicle. i.e. we are not a group as we will not be arriving enmass by coach, thats how we all did it last year.

Can someone please email me the route that the run will be taking from Chester please. If have it saved as an Autoroute .axe file then that would be excellent. I want to put it into my SatNav.
My email for attachments etc is fredhindle@i.am
Thank you.[:)]

Saw that but it says PROVISIONAL - can I assume that is now confirmed as the route?

I guess so!
Turns out my youngest - Ralph - has last week's football match postponed to this Sunday so we probably won't be able to get to Chester OPC by 10.30 (I'll try - we'll drive straight from the game). I'll either catch up with you all along the way (unlikely, given only 110 or 160bhp - depending on which car we go in!) or see you at PM. My mob is 07979 868459. I have emailled this to Nicola and asked if she can print a few copies of the route to give out at Chester OPC.
Regards
Alan.
