turbo charged 924's are back!!

They never went away. Im reasonably well-known as a FrontRunner enthusiast and Ive owned 968s and 944 Turbos, but the 931 (and derivatives) is still my favourite car, without question.

The Earl of March's 937 is still the only car that I regret not buying.

Fantastic car Chris! There's more GTS loveliness here: http://roadscholars.com/inventory/1981-porsche-924gts-clubsport-one-owner-with-750-kilometers

You could have a matching pair...

Chris will certainly find those pics of interest for eg the VIN plate having glue over the rivets, as does his.

Chris, your car didn't have the 'turbo' door sill decals, not sure if it did originally but the road scholar and other cars I have seen have done. You can buy OEM spec items from werk924.com as the are NLA from Porsche.

You will also see that the tachometer redline took the form of an external decal. 6,800rpm btw. [:D]

April 2000 Jim. The dealer wanted £12,000 and I wanted to pay £10,000 which I think was a fair price for a nice car. If the Earl of March hadn't been the last owner then I think that theyd have been happy with my offer.

Turbo Cup cars have probably risen far more in value and over a shorter time, though. The Carrera GT would be 14yrs older and well used by now too...

I want to keep bumping this thread along for Chris's incredible car.

Simon you epic fail can't compare to the 73 2.4S minter I baulked at for £17K because I didn't have a garage at the time. I don't think I will ever stop regretting that one and it only winds me up even more that after all these years I find I really like and 'get' the old air cooled thing just at the time when all but the shadiest SC is unaffordable.

I owned a number of cheap 2.4l cars in the early-mid nineties Neil. I advertised in the club mag for them and bought several for under five thousand pounds each. I sold them all at a profit, although only just on the white with blue decals and Fuchses 2.7 rep that nobody at all wanted as it was. Since sold for tens of thousands.

2003 for me Simon - barn find 944 Turbo Cup that I could have bought for £4K tops. Chickened out because it needed a complete restoration and ownership was questionable. [][][]

OK, no relation to the vendor [;)] !!

P.S. Worth noting that there is nothing on this Clubsport version that wasn't a bolt on option to the non Clubsport version. 15 unsold cars were reputedly upgraded to Clubsport from the original 59 ? GTS' --- bolt in roll cage, relocated spare wheel, bolt in fire extinguisher (different on the two cars currently visible), connection of the existing ignition cut off to external access points, turbo pressure / power upgrade, securing pins for bonnet and rear window, plus ??? I think that's it.
Also worth noting that this car has no Turbo door sill decals ...
Also worth noting that not all the 59 had the lightweight doors, two at least have CGT doors, electric windows and comfort seats --- I believe Derek Bells and Ricky Caesars ?
And I am only aware of the Freisinger grey car that has the GTR dry sump --- but that was a racing option ! The preparation is in the bodywork behind the GTS badge on the rear panel ... maybe this could be clarified ?

P.S. the Freisinger car seems to have disappeared ...

As is the Freisinger car.

The use of 'club sport' for these GTS cars always confuse me. As you say Chris, many of the original GTS had items fitted that the last club sports had. All cars appear to have unique additions/omissions depending whether they were destined for race track, road or collections. Almost all GTS which are featured or for sale appear to be described as club sports.

As for turbo/boost differences. I understand that it was purely a boost difference from 1.0 bar to 1.1 bar I guess controlled by a wastegate spring giving an increase of power from 245 to 270bhp. I believe the turbos and ignition remained the same. What is t clear is if there are any intercooler differences. I believe the only difference in intercoolers was that the GTR had a larger version with associated intake plenum.

I'm no expert on these cars but I do try to educate myself on them at every opportunity. Any further knowledge and understanding gratefully received.

Well, sorted at las.

Despite new HT leads and coil earlier in the year, it was in-fact the coil !!

Big thanks to Mike from SCoM for sorting it [:)]

As an aside, I also managed to find a copy of the GTS workshop manual (in German) which is now available for reference should anybody else need it ....

Thanks all !!
