OPC is having a laugh!

One last thing I would recommend if you insist on throwing 50 gees away is to give Gareth Williams @ Bespoke Automotive Consulting a call and see if he can find an outlet for you. Helped me out a few times now, including the disposal of my X51.

Just seen this thread and was going to suggest talking to Gareth, but Yves has beaten me to it !!

Give him a call - I'm 99.9% sure you'll get a much better deal.

I came to the same conclusion as Yves, but unfortunatley 3 weeks after I sold my car. After a bit of deliberation though, I lucked out & got onto the GT3 waiting list, with a promise to myself that this one's a keeper.
 
Reading thro this thread has reinforced my recent feelings about changing my car. For the last ten years I have been changing my car every 24 to 30 months. This is usually because I get a bit board with them. The trouble with this is you tend to use the car less, worrying all the time about putting too many miles on it. As a result, the real cost per mile of ownership is appalling, and you get shafted anyway when you trade it in! Of course Porsches finance package, and rediculous two year warranty, are designed to 'help' you trade in after two years...

With my C4S I am finding that I am enjoying the car more and more as time goes on, especially when I drive it at weekends or on long holidays, rather than just for shopping or going to work etc. Until recently, I was thinking of replacing the C4S with a Turbo after 30 months. However, what will I really gain by doing so? Yes the Turbo is much faster, has more fins, and more cache, but will I have really got £50K's worth of use out of the C4S after 24 months?

Today, I am feeling that instead of trading up, I will keep the car for five years by extending the finance and warranty, and treating it to some new wheels, body kit, power kit etc. from time to time to keep my interest up. Then after five years get a 998 which will be a bigger change than upgrading to another 997 anyway. I am sure this will be a more cost effective option, and I will be able to enjoy the C4S much more - free of the constant worry about mileage and trade-in values...

Am I alone in this view?

Not any more you are not.

I too love my current car as much as the day I bought it and will be really sad when it goes.

If I was the make the decision again about upgrading to a Turbo I think my choice would be very different. Buying a new car is supposed to be an enjoyable thing. Instead, as my other-half has pointed out on many occasions, I have just been stressed out for 75% of the time.

However, if I back out now I will lose my £10k deposit and really piss off my OPC after all the work they have done to jump me 6 months up the queue. So I am going to see this through.

I always try to find the positives out of all situations, and so to take this as a learning experience... unless I win the lottery in the next couple of years: the 997 Turbo will be my last sports car I will buy. I wanted to trade up to the 998 Turbo in 5 years time but frankly the stress and loss of money in doing so is just not going to be worth it. 5 years is a long time to change my mind though. But who knows, the EU may enforce the 120g/km CO2 and new supercars may be no more. In which case the 997TT will become a classic and worth more than I paid for it!

Cheers guys, just had a chat with Gareth, seems a good guy. Knew both of you well :)

He's going to get back to me next week with what he can find. Def seems a good resource for selling your motor!
 
You are NOT tied to the OPC and your order - the worst they can do is keep your deposit until they receive the full payment by selling on to another buyer. That is of course unless you have signed somethign different for the turbo than the rest of us mere mortals do for normal purchases.

Thanks, it's good to know that.

I have invested far too much of myself in this (now once in a lifetime purchase) to back out now.

Best thing I can do is minimize the impact, learn from the experience, and enjoy the car (that I have obsessed over for the last year) when it arrives...

Alex, I did feel exactly the same, really stressful time and many times I wondered why I even bothered, however like you I wanted the car 100% and the dealership knew it...

Don't even for a second worry about the OPC, they won't about you.[&:] Its just a sale of an asset to them..
Don't let them put on any pressure, its their job to sell, not yours to buy.

Only upside is I put all the stress behind me and now enjoy my car 100%, sure I know in years to come I will go through the upset again when it comes to selling it, so I plan to use and enjoy the car as much as possible...
Secondly I'm so glad I collected from the factory as from the point that Porsche cars took over from the OPC it was all the pleasure and excitement that buying a new Porsche should be.

£57k (and probably £55k when I get my new Turbo in Dec) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [:mad:]

This is an £85k car when new and only had 15,000 miles on the clock.

Just a brief search on Porsche's Used Car Locator shows cars with less spec than mine selling for £69k at my own OPC!! How can they justify this?

Join the club! Was offered 43k for my 996 turbo against a 100k 997tt. Cars were in same OPC for £61k. Also got offered 53k for same car in same day from another OPC. As Gary told me the OPC doesn't want your car! [:mad:]
 
the coffeee is ****ing expensive to buy in -thats why they have a 10-15k markup-simple[:mad:]


enjoy the TT now ,once you have kids its volvo estates for what seems an eternity[:D]

just enjoy your new car when it comes,you dont know whats round the corner,lifes full of stress if you let it-opcs you love them or loathe them but someones got to sale cars at the end of the day-just look at this as part of live

this is where I came to after being shafted on Boxsters

1st Boxster S 50k+ miles and medium spec trade in £22.5k 3 years old
2nd BoxsterS 27.6k miles and very high spec trade in £27k 1.5 years old

So I specced the 911 as a keeper and intend to drive it as much as I like and enjoy every minute, either way I get shafted at trade in so why worry.

Sorry Yves but I did say drive it hard and keep her......

My experience is that as time goes on and I put a few miles on my cars I enjoy them more and more. When they are new, I stress out about every single stone chip!

Ultimately though, we only get one life (that I know of anyway) and you are a long time dead they say, so if you can afford to spend the cash for faster beasts like a TT, go for it I say. It's easy to get bogged down in the losses etc and of course we all need to get the best deals with OPCs and not get robbed. However, we all know buying cars is not good for our finances, but I reckon the smile my car puts on my face adds years to my life expectancy which no money can buy[:D] [:D]

I will take to the grave with me that I missed out on a flight in Concorde...[:(]
Booked, but the French incident happened, after that costs escalated and I missed out.[:-]

I have recently sold my June 05 Turbo Cab.

Initially the OPC offered £62,000 as a straight Purchase or between £65,000 to £67,000 on a sale or return basis.

I let them have the car on a sale or return basis.

After they had had the car for a few days, I mentioned it to a Trader we deal with. He offered me £68,000 without seeing the car.

I phoned the OPC and said that I wanted the car back as I had an offer of £68,000.

The OPC then offered £68,000 as a straight purchase.

The OPC bought the car and sold it about a week later for around £75,000.


Try a few phone calls to 'High end Traders' or if you e mail me I will give you the name of the Trader that made me the 'Fair' offer.


ps, My new Turbo Cab arrived at the OPC yesterday afternoon having had a phone call in the morning to say it was due to be shipped from Germany!
I am going to have a look at it Today and collecting it Tuesday am. [:)]
 
I've been on Conference today and there was plenty of talk of residuals.

So we know, there are highs and lows through the year, the highs are March and September!! [:eek:]

Alex, is this the same dealership you purchased the car from? If it is they are probably factoring in the "saving" you got from not buying at the £85k mark to begin with.

OPC are very profitable for a reason. At least you aren't having to suffer the depreciation of being an owner from new and the person before you has offset the loss a little for you already.

same thing happened to me...

Bought the C4S for £66500 traded it in for my TT 5 months later at an OPC for £58850 [:(] first offer was £55K [:mad:]

However!!!!

You are gonna LOVE the TT, its so much more fun IMHO than the C4S was. Every time i take it out i come back with a grin on my face, its that good!

I've had DMS remap the ECU now so expect a review of my findings soon.

Polished the old girl up at the weekend, in preparation for selling her this week. Sadly, looks like the OPC original quote is actually the best trade one around, especially as it lasts until the end of the month.

I would wait it out for a private buyer but I am not really using the car right now so it's just sitting in the garage depreciating.

So I am meeting with the OPC tomorrow to probably say goodbye.

Took some final pics and videos to remember her by. Will very much be missed.
