OT - What to get for xmass???

ORIGINAL: RC18B 911 turbo

....GT Legends with a steering wheel is brilliant I would certainly recommend it one of the best games i've ever played.....

Ditto, and I'm not a youngster.

I've already got GTL and a steering wheel, so I just bought myself a radio controlled helicopter on eBay....[:D]

I'm getting myself an Alpine head unit from Halfords that has an iPod link so you can control the iPod from the head unit. I now want another iPod though so I can have my current one as the car iPod. An RC helicopter sounds the business though!!

That's a £40 saving - cheers. Only problem is i've asked for Halfords vouchers of everyone for Christmas to put towards it! Mind you Halfords have a price match policy so I can always give that a whirl first. I used this when I bought a head unit for my wifes previous car - they price matched against the best price I could find in a magazine, I can't remember the saving but it was pretty substantial.

It's funny there are so many GTL and steering wheel replies because I've asked for a new wheel to replace my ageing one. I had a go with Tonys Logitech Force Feedback wheel last week and suggested a few changes to him and since then he's out qualified me in both our Pistonhead league races on Sunday evenings [] I need a Logitech wheel.

Our current championship is nearly finished and is currently led by three 944 drivers [:)] so if anyone wants to join for our next season then sign in to the Pistonheads Gassing forum and join up and you too can look like the idiot below

Just bought myself an 80gb I Pod Video for xmas today.

Would now like the below headunit with Bluetooth handsfree car kit included.[:D]

The Pioneer iPod interface is diabolical, so don't waste your money even if you do get that stereo. The Alpine one is OK; I have it in the hearse with an interface to allow the OE stereo to control it on the sat nav screen

You don't need the interface on the Alpine above - it's built in.
I have the add on to my Alpine, and it works well - including charging the i-pod, although i've only used it a few times as the missus is the only one with an i-pod[].
I have the Pioneer 75BT unit in my small Hearse, and the Bluetooth works really well. Haven't bothered with an i-pod add on, as a) it does an MP3 CD, and b) you can connect a Bluetooth phone for MP3/WMA audio also (not that I've ever seen the need).
Got to say, as much as I'm an Alpine fan, I only bought the Pioneer to connect my phone via Bluetooth (Alpine - about time you pulled your finger out on that count[]) but I am mightily impressed by the sound quality!

I've only got a microsoft sidewinder that's how old school i am but it does the job so i'm not all that bothered but I think that when I've got the car I'll have a look into getting a better wheel for me computer

Thats a blooming good idea Tony!

Where on the high streets sell gtech's? or is it mail order only?

Good to hear you got a heli Fen! What model did you go for?

This Gran Prix Legends.... Is the wheel a logitech driving force pro? How long do the championships last?

I had a look for the Hummingbird but couldn't easily find them. Also they seemed to be 4 channel (?) so I went for a 6 channel Honey Bee with trainer kit, spare blades and a pair of extra batteries for pence under £170 delivered (tomorrow I hope!)

I think honeybee's are just as good as a hummingbird, maybe even better....

In fact... if its a 6 channel one, its probably a collective pitch heli, which I understand is a bit easier to fly as the head speed is constant, where as the hummingbird is a variable head speed heli, which means you have to compensate a lot more. Century make a HummingbirdCP which is a collective pitch version.

Apparently, its much harder to fly a small heli than a bigger scale one... but the small ones are much more robust (I have flown my one into the walls, furniture and even the ceiling without damage!)

In a completely different vein...bought myself Cartier pen in New York at good exchange rate, trouble is I am here, pen is there and I dont want to pay VAT or tax (ssshhhhhhhh)[8|]

Gtech may only be available online, but she can print you a picture till it arrives [;)]

I have a logitech driving force pro - works with playstation and PC (wingman drivers from logitech). Pistonheads championships are 2 races on sunday nights, typical season is 8 weeks - most people miss at least one. There is a small fee for the pistonheads server aound £20 but it has avery fast feed and means you dont get the wreckers who sometimes populate the public servers.

there are more expensive wheels available (Logitech G25) but the DFP is pretty good pound/performance compromise. There are loads of add on tracks cars available for GTL.

R factor is downloadable as a demo with a few cars circuits available, then you purchase the code to unlock it - I only have the demo but there are loads of cars circuits to download, the potential to waste to much time has held me back, but the F1 car in the demo feels mighty fast and I really like it.

AFAIK all add ons are free for both games.

Tony

I have the same wheel as Tony and I recommend it wholeheartedly too. though I haven't used it for ages.

I really need to install GTL and some add-ons and get some practice in, but Sunday night is really bad for me. If you join the PH server contribution can you use it at other times also?

AFAIK server is always online unless it has failed which it does occasionally, there is an r factor championship on I think wednesdays,

Tony

Yes the PH server is generally always there but if no-one else is online then obviously it gets a bit lonely in there. Historically, we've always had league racing on Sunday nights and then larkabout races on Wednesday nights, though a lot of the regulars have started playing Rfactor on Wednesday nights [:'(]

I think my new DFP arrived from Santa today as a big van delivered something and Debbie wouldn't let me go look [:D]
