It's fixed! [
] Fitted a used central locking controller I bagged on ebay for £20 and all is well again. The only rational explanation is that the one fitted to the car got fed up with the door being open for a long while. Even though I switched off the lights manually at the units the controller must have remained energised. So word from the wise don't leave your doors open for a long time unless you disconnect the battery or remove the interior light fuses!
