Partner Looking For a 944 ...... which one?

Coming a little late to this but with all the guys on a Lux except you do get molested on dual carriageways by hot hatches. Your only recourse is to move over. If this isn't an issue to you then job's a good'n. The plus side is on the wiggly bits they are sublime. Undoubtedly the later the car the more it will have evolved incorporating many improvements along the way (better suspension, brakes, bearings, ergonomics, balance, less drag even ABS if you can find one with it fitted as an option). Porsche did some very Porsche things with the engines and '88 2.5s were detuned for a year so an 87 model year Lux could well be the best. 2.7's had almost no difference in power over pre 88 2.5's. S - The added complexity of an S2 but without the advantages. Less desirable than an 87 Lux. S2 - Pretty much a less Porsche looking 968 for 1/3rd of the money - and 968's are almost legendary now. Not wishing to disagree with comments above - rust is becoming an issue and is very expensive to address properly. Take out the door vents and shine a torch into the cavity. If it is starting to go brown it isn't going to heal its self.

Was ABS an option on a 2.7Lux 1989? Also what is the best colour amongst in the 944 Fraternity?

My 1989 2.7 lux certainly has ABS.... as well as Aircon and electrics everywhere... As for colour - I like my Blue [:)] : http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=461520&mpage=1&key=&#461520 Cheers

I have owned two 1986 2.5s - previous one a Guards Red one, current one a gold one. For some reason no one can see pictures that I post on here! If you want a car that looks 80's get a gold one, or if you would rather your 944 look more modern I'd say go for black or grey, Guards Red is also a great choice and is timeless in my opinion, my previous three Porsches where 3 generations apart, 70's, 80's and 00's and they were all Guards Red! As I've not driven any other 944 than the 2.5 8V I can't comment on what engine is the best. S2 is seen as being a great package though, so is the turbo, the 2.5 is not going to set the world alight performance wise but it's not what you drive, it's how you drive it, I like my 2.5 personally or I wouldn't have bought another.

Is ABS standard?

I was actively looking for a 2.7, I decided that for my price range it seemed to be the best compromise between power & condition. I saw that most of them were well specced with Aircon, etc, and were mainly resident in Lancashire or the far north of Scotland.....
