Partner Looking For a 944 ...... which one?

It's funny this, we've had guys on here taking months and months to find S2s and Turbos and yet here's Des having found a (rare) 2.7 Lux in a matter of days. Odd how things are sometimes?
Someone else who was recently looking found a 2.7 last week as well. Common as muck! [:D]

Des has a very flash reputation and owns most of East Lahndahn Tahn, so I'm sure budgetary constraints did not hamper his search :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Sadly I initially thought he was just trolling, so that's taught me a lesson and I take back all the unsavoury thoughts I had [:-]
 
GP White 89 2.7 Lux with half leather interior and sunroof .... manual ... 102,000 miles with supporting documents but no service book. Dick Lovett supplied. Pretty immaculate inside and out. Just drove it back back from Cambidgeshire ......... My first impressions are: For: Smooth engine slick gearbox, plenty torque, light feeling, good brakes, balanced, real Porsche feel, economical, very comfortable but firm on the road, great looks, practical boot area, good kids rear seats, useable tourer for me and the Mrs, begs for a long journey, Porsche Build exudes.[:D] Against: Clunky noise on clutch engagement must need adjustment any thoughts Guys? Wind noise above 65 MPH maybe did not have roof firmly fixed. Radio knackered original Bluespot Canberra.[8|] Great honest little car and all for £****! I could imagine the Turbo Boy .... but that would defeat the finesse I seek.

I'm in the market too for a Lux - does anyone know the details of the detuning of the '88 model, and can this be rectified easily? Also, was the 2.7 detuned, because it seems curious that there were no power gains on the 2.5?
 
ORIGINAL: Chrishazle So, after a year or so I swopped it for a 2.7 944S (F191NJB) - which had the required vertical seat adjustment but, other than that, we were not so happy with. I felt the engine had no "bottom end" - nothing much happened until about 4000RPM. Also our one big bill of Porsche ownership came with this car, £1K clutch replacement.
A small point: the S was a 16v 2,500cc engine. The 2.7 has an 8v cylinder head and is actually a different engine, having far more in common with the 3,000cc S2.

Another small point: the 2.7 isnt rare, thats a myth. Porsche built as many 2.7s as it did 1987 2.5s. The only 'rare' 944 was the 1988 2.5 of which Porsche manufactured half as many as both the earlier and later producrion year.

omg my car is rare! will i insure it for more? ;p apparently its also detuned a WHOLE 3BHP which makes it 'less desirable' according to some. (Like 3 BHP new means anything in a 21 year old car).

1988 944s ARE NOT detuned. This is another myth caused by over reliance on North American sourced data. For the sceptical Id suggest considering the following. The 1986 and 1987 model year 924Ss were rated at 150bhp. This lower rated output came as a result of the factory using lower compression NA spec pistons. For the run-out 1988 model year the 924S was fitted with normal Euriopean mrket high compression pistons, and its rated output was 160bhp. Who thinks that the 924S would have a more powerful engine than the 944?
 
from what ive read the 88 944 was 160bhp down 3 from the previous year, but gained a litttle torque. i could see the runout 924Ss having exactly the same engine.
 
Welcome to the fold! Nice to see another new owner. The 2.7 purchases are becoming a little popular now! Where I work someone has purchased a 2.7 in white as well (on the same road that is)! Still, it looks like a mini '44 fleet there now with my car and his there. I swear people are harking back more to the 80s these days!
ORIGINAL: John Sims Coming a little late to this but with all the guys on a Lux except you do get molested on dual carriageways by hot hatches. Your only recourse is to move over. If this isn't an issue to you then job's a good'n. The plus side is on the wiggly bits they are sublime. Undoubtedly the later the car the more it will have evolved incorporating many improvements along the way (better suspension, brakes, bearings, ergonomics, balance, less drag even ABS if you can find one with it fitted as an option). S - The added complexity of an S2 but without the advantages. Less desirable than an 87 Lux. S2 - Pretty much a less Porsche looking 968 for 1/3rd of the money - and 968's are almost legendary now. Not wishing to disagree with comments above - rust is becoming an issue and is very expensive to address properly. Take out the door vents and shine a torch into the cavity. If it is starting to go brown it isn't going to heal its self.
I can agree with that quite a bit. Hell, Evo claimed the S2 was a 968 in an 80s dress.
