Plastic Window Replacement - Experiences here please?

Hi All - having read everyone's good experiences and with the fact that Porsche Aberdeen had replaced a friend's Hood for a Glass upgrade with no problems, I nailed my courage to the mast and ordered a hood from Car hood warehouse and had it shipped to Spain for Castellon Porsche to fit (A job they said they were familiar with!). I left them to go back to work and left my wife to deal with it.

After a couple of weeks of Porsche being very shifty and not available it turns out my new roof will not fit in the compartment.
I suspect that they have reinstalled the metal side stiffeners but am not sure yet. Has anyone else had the problem of the Glass Upgrade Hood not retracting properly on the 2002 Boxster S? Any advice would be really welcome.

Just had my soft top replaced by BAS International in Cwmbran for £695 fitted and I cannot praise the whole experience enough. I called for a price after reading reviews on here and found the price had not increased from a price quoted on here 4/5 years back.
I arrived first thing (8am) and the fitter came straight out to the car, checked the hood operation and said it should take 3-4 hours and a guy from the office would drop me in town whilst it was being done which was only 5 minutes after I had walked into the office
So I bought a paper and settled into a cafe for a breakfast and read after which I decided to wander around the shops but was interupted after just 3 hours to be informed that the car was ready and my chariot was on it's way to collect me!

The fitter was very keen to show me my new top and it looked superb but I didn't drop it as it was pouring with rain but with a 1 year warranty there was nothing to worry about but driving home in the rain proved it had no leaks anyway.
To round up it was a 4 hour round trip but worth every mile as I now have a crystal clear heated rear screen and a roof that has beads of water on it when it rains [:D]

Hi all new here.my rear screen on my 2001 boxser has small crack between trim an window .
A helpful tip is to buy a tube of sealent for fish tank. This is clear an water tight. Till your screen gets fixed looks better that horrible tape.

Hi I am having mine replaced on March 3rd by Car Hood Warehouse in Chessington. They do a new top with a glass screen replacement for £650. They have these in stock and have a good reputation. I will post again with a review when its done.

I had my hood replaced on my Golf Mk III Cabriolet by Roy Dowd (Advanced Car Trimmers Ltd) in Blackpool 07831 482034

Excuse the fact that the 's' is missing on the Porsche 356 picture.

Roy did a brilliant job, the car originally had a vinyl roof, it now has a black mohair one.

I booked the Boxster to have a new mohair roof with the glass rear window before Christmas. I will hopefully get it done in April when hopefully the worst of the winter weather has gone. Will post again when it is fitted.

Cheers.

Hello,
On my 2000 boxster I have replaced my roof (plastic window cracked) with a second hand roof with glass window, taken off a wrecked 2002 Boxster. This included the frame so it was a bolt off the old then bolt in the new one. Because both boxster's were 986 versions it was straight forward and works a treat. I had to pay £400 for the roof. I did try to barter them down to £350 but they would not budge. But at the end of the day I have a Porsche roof on my Boxster and not an after market version.

Excellent!
I thought the side windows were a slightly different profile - did you have to change them or did you find they fit ok after all?

hi mark,
everything works, windows fit OK and did not need changing. Only slight issue is that 1 in 5 times of roof being opened the back plate does not sit down completely and stick up about 1". if you partly lift roof and then drop it down again then it it OK. My view is that this will either settle down with more use or may need a slight adjustment. Apart from that, very happy with the roof.

Hi Mark, to correct what I said there may be an issue with my new second hand roof in that the drivers window sometimes catches the plastic top of the roof when opening the door sometimes, when I am too quick at opening the door. This never happened with the previous roof with the plastic window. I am going to make enquirers as to whether I need to change the glass in the doors.

Hi I have a 2002 boxster s and have just had a new hood with a glass heated window fitted. It was done by Car Hood Warehouse in Chessington. They did a marvelous job. I arranged to be at their garage at 9am and was away by 2pm. Cost was £650 inc vat. Very happy with the new hood.

John,
Have you ever had the battery disconnected? It maybe that you need to go through the window setting procedure.

Cheers,

Hi Fred,
I have performed the window reset but no change. the glass is closer to the hood at the front of the glass on both windows. However all is not lost as the window regulator can be adjusted for height. I have just recently acquired a tool to do this adjustment. Just have to get my back in better shape and I will make the adjustment.

Hi, I have adjusted the windows and the 2002 roof now fits my 2000 boxster S. The problem I found was not that the height was in error but that the drivers window has been slightly out of position in the horizontal axis since I replaced the window regulator last summer. I am now very happy with my replacement roof.

Had my whole plastic window/top replaced by BAS in wales.
Good friendly service. fitted while I waited (they dropped me off and collected me from town centre so I could mill about whilst work done).

Very please with the top. Glass window is smaller but as it is clear, and has demister, means visibility actually far superior to the old plastic.

Top was a little stiff for first months and when open, the cover that goes over open roof wouldn't shut completely (up about an inch) but now all as stretched and closes fine

very pleased I had this done. whole new roof makes care look newer, demister, better visibility

there is a guy in Loughbough can't remember his number but give PH Sportscars in Shardlow derby a ring he knows it. Cost £200.00

My 2001 Boxster S was re-hooded in 2008 by K Baggs (Poole) in Blue Mohair and heated glass at a cost of £600 + VAT. The hood and window and heating element are all still working fine and the only wear is on the top of the hood where it rests on the support pads when down (most of the time!). It catches slightly at the sides as it folds down which I guess will cause wear at some point but at 6 years old it is still fine - no clouding or cold weather worries here!!

2002, replaced my top with one from a 2003 glass rear window. Got a friend to help took about 3 hrs in total cost £425 inc posting
Very happy all round

Can anyone recommend a place near Portsmouth? Or is Poole the best place down here?
Going to try the insurance first....
