Porsche 944 Turbo Restoration - Picture Heavy

Brilliant and jaw dropping project, I reckon loads of us use this thread for ideas and fixes too.

May I ask exactly what is the process called for coating tired bright work called and approx cost expected from such companies (ie the headlight frame and operating levers / shaft)

Zinc plate and passivate

min charge is around £35

complete engine and everything inside the engine bay would be around £180 depending on condition of the parts,

Thanks, something for my winter list of works

I have seen references to this legendary topic, both on here and TIPEC, but I've only just got round to reading it from start to finish. I'm simply gobsmacked by the attention to detail. I like to do things 'properly', but once safety and functionality have been sorted, cosmetics often get put on the to-do list in favour of getting the car out and driving the thing. When you finally get to the end and drive the car, if you let people know when and where, one would expect there to be a long list of people waiting to line that road and give you the round of applause that you deserve.

Incidentally, OPC Porsche Tewkesbury are restoring a Guards Red 968. They have already been offered 40k, when complete. Goodness only knows what yours would be worth.

Cheers,

Bryan

Went out for a blast with the bikes yesterday around the TT course on the famed "Mad Sunday". All very sensible to Ramsey with two way traffic, but the one way section over the mountain can get a bit hairy so handy to have Tim along with an extra pair of eyes. Very well policed and safety controlled too I must say, although the cones at the Bungalow were annoying. It's a stopping off point mind, so no point having someone careering off into a big gang of bystanders - a pity though as it's a great sweeping left then right combo (the slight negative camber also catches people out). I think it's fair to say I ended up in credit, a lot of bikers are very sensible if they don't know the road layout and tend to stay on the left, leaving plenty of space on the inside of Windy Corner to boot it and open the car up. Great fun, and the car gave a very good account of itself.

Am out tomorrow for another lap with a few other R30 members, and a couple of Ferarris and Maclarens apparently to make up the numbers. We're taking the crew of Royal Navy minesweeper HMS Ramsey up to the Grandstand for a photo shoot (think there's also a meet n greet with a TT rider) then out for a lap, and they're going to give us a tour of the ship and tea and biscuits afterwards. Should be a good day's entertainment.

My MOT man laughed and said he was wasting his time when he looked under mine as it was basically all new. Yours is waaaaay nicer than mine so I expect you will get some multiple of much the same response! Look forward to seeing it in the metal sometime.

Ken your car is just amazing, a true testament to the amount of effort and expense involved.

I would love to see it in the flesh before you get it dirty

Well it's been a long time so thought I would post an update Cars running great, just need a bit of paint next year and it's finished :D Although knowing me it will be a lot of paint

But in the meantime been building a new home for the car after building it in a tiny lean to with only a few inches each side of the car I wanted a big garage with lift so up goes this 10x6m garage
