Great idea this - being new to Porsche since April, I've been intending to finally turn into reality my long-promised desire of getting my hands well and truly dirty ... and I'm sure that I'll have ample opportunities to do that with my car! Before realising the Porsche dream, I've only ever got as far as filling up with oil, petrol and water (in the right places... I'm not a total muppet [&:]), changing wiper blades, and simple stuff like that in my pre-Porka life. Hardly challenging, I admit.

Now I want to be able to do lots of stuff. I suppose this makes me a half-spanner really but I'm willing to learn as much as I can so am dead keen.

Looking forward to arranging a meet up soon, mate!

I dont believe it! there really are other people who work on their own cars, should be a seperate register section all on its own?? hows this for spanner rating

I think you should award yourself at least two or three spanners Bruce if you want to be part of the scheme. Hopefully this whole scheme and it's ramifications for a new 'technical push' in the club will be revealed soon. You might want to write a few articles either here in 'Top Tips' . in the Technical Articles Section' which is not quite developed yet or for Porsche Post. An article on ride heights would be useful.

Hi Bones,
On the subject of the 'buddies scheme' did the you see the article in the latest Classic Cars about a new DIY car repair workshop in Aberdeen. The place has several workbays each with power, lighting, a hoist and other facilities for hire and costs £15 per hour. Opening hours are 0900-2100 every day. I know the location may be less than ideal for most but the idea is sound, does anyone know of one in the South?

That's just the sort of thing I'd like to see spread all over the country. Porsche Club could negotiate discounts I'm sure. I wonder how they tackle the issue of insurance?

DIY car repair workshops available by the hr - Great this is what we need. Are there any in west London? I NEED one - based on how ofen my babe is off the road.

If you find them in the South post the results, I'll be there too, bear in mind a lift is essential for ease of access on a 911.

Sounds good to me. I'm keen to work on my SC but just need a garage with a lift and some tools etc. Should be fun - any offers here in west London?

Anyway... I know one end of a screwdriver from the other and welcome any excuse to get oil under my badly broken finger nails, so if you're stuck near Skipton with a recalcitrant [sic?] porker I'd be more than happy to pull it in bits... you might need someone else toput it together though...

Why not try and get it started in your own region for a kick off. Excellent idea but difficult to administer the tools bit. (The club does have some special tools but I've never seen a list and I don't know who to contact at CH to ask about it).
