Porsche Post April disappointing

I've just got round to reading the 'offending' article (I know, I know...) and I think the OP has missed the point.
I'm the first to admit that I haven't always been the biggest fan of Chris Horton's editing, having suffered adversely at the hands of his keyboard in the past. However, I have the utmost respect for him as a journalist and Porsche enthusiast and we're all aware of his fondness for the transaxle cars. With this in mind, look carefully at the offending sentence and you'll see it finishes with an ellipsis thus;
'and all from a VW van engine...'
I'll be very surprised if it wasn't meant a subtle tongue-in-cheek comment which we have all taken literally. On this occasion, I for one will give him the benefit of doubt - and I'm glad to say that none of my comments have been in criticism of his excellent article.
A smiley face would have made all the difference...??

The OP had considered that the comment, just like the OP's 'reaction' could be tongue-in-cheek, but thought that throwing in a tired old cliche let the article down and the reference might be taken verbatim by a new generation of Porsche owners who hadn't grown up with the 924.

I must admit to having an adverse reaction to the article & find myself in agreement with all that's been said about CH.
At the time ,it wasn't a reaction sufficient to make me add pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) as I am aware that his articles have recently received fulsome praise from editorial staff .To me,there seems to exist some sort of holy grail about journalists when in fact all they are doing is writing stories which in themselves are really just glossy reports & my experience of being slapped down for making what to me have been sincere but personal comments /criticisms lead me to just to move on & ignore the fatuous content.

I have always felt that the trend to asking consultants (always self opinionated ) to assist when asking the staff(or members ) could elicit just as good information has been one of the weak points of management & led to massive failed projects over the years just as we have all been conned into spending 3 times as much on Farrell & Ball paints as we need to by the spin doctors ( well except in our house!)

I'll now go & get my coat![:-]

The bottom line is that it is an unworthy comment on a excellent Porsche design and best buried. No one prefaces comments on the original line of aircooled rear engined cars with the obvious derogatory remark on their VW Beetle ancestry, and the original front engined water cooled car should expect the same respect.
Does anyone really believe that Beetle roots are never mentioned in reference to air-cooled Porsche's, be they 356's or 911's? Or that Boxster owners are never accused of owning a hairdressers car that looks like a push-me pull-you which, because it is water-cooled, isn't actually a Porsche anyway? Or 914 owners are never told that their car is just a re-badged VW (and a funny looking one at that)? Come to mention it, 996 GT3 Gen 2's onwards aren't proper GT3's because they were built on the normal production line rather than off line by the motorsport division. Oh, and I own an example of the last true 911, because all subsequent '911's' had different model numbers and as such have no right to the hallowed name...??
The list goes on and on, but the fact is that all of the above are commonly held (and voiced) beliefs by those who should no better (or are perhaps joking...) but it is a very insecure owner who gets upset by the comments, or even takes them seriously. Why should 924 owners be any different? Just enjoy the fact that you own an example of the car that saved the company and revell in the critics ignorance!

We do, but it is frustrating trying to educate those who should really know better:rolleyes:

I hear it all the time from friends etc "Not a Real Porsche", "Poor mans Porsche", "LT Van engine etc"....they own Over priced rafts called Escorts or Absolutely rotten Minis etc.

Different story when their awesome car breakdown and need someone to fix it

I love my 924 and couldn't care for others opinions to be honest
