Our Latin teacher was legendary throughout the school.
He would stand in front of his victim (we had proper old fashioned desks with lids) and check that they knew their verb endings. When they (inevitably) did not, he would slam the desk lid up and down whilst shouting "bam, bas, bat, bamus, batis, bant, the imperfect tense is the noisy tense, come on, wake up".
After marking homework he would throw exercise books back across the classroom frisbee style whilst remembering in detail who had done what wrong - one classic to my pal was "you've not put any full stops at the end of your sentences so you obviously want to do some more, do the next exercise and hand it in by lunchtime".
Still, what did the Romans ever do for us?

Seem to scuttle the odd cruise ship.[8|]-we also had a fantastic latin teacher-he did the Times Ximenes crossword in 5 minutes whilst we did a 100 question off the cuff test-also got books & board dusters thrown at underperforming individuals-he played the french horn in the school orchestra-good player & whilst deadly if mistakes made, once done with was very friendly & helpful & would talk off the cuff about all & everything.
I think we all got much higher marks in Latin than in the science subjects those of us chose to study after 'O' levels.

Jamie's not playing out tonight. His Mum won't let him because he's been naughty. Either that or he's working abroad somewhere, I forget which.
See you later.
