'Pre 1974' Track Day - Silverstone

Thanks to the support of Steve Kevlin and Robin Walker, I'm delighted to announce the first PCGB Early 911 / Pre-74 trackday [:)]

Steve has very kindly allocated the event at Silverstone on Monday, 30th July 2007 exclusively for owners of 'Pre-74' cars. This means all 356, Early 911, 912 and 914 owners are very welcome.

The Silverstone National Circuit is 1.64miles long and takes in all of the best bits of this historic circuit; cutting out the very long Hanger straight makes this circuit really suited to early cars.

Priced at only £175 per car, this makes for outstanding value - AND being on the day after the Silverstone Classic weekend, it should make for a very social gathering [:)] (I for one am camping from Thursday to Monday!)

The logic behind this day is that so many owners of Early cars have expressed to me their desire to try trackdays - but the thought of modern high performance machinery puts them off. Here is the perfect opportunity to play with your car on one of the best circuits in the country - with only fellow classic drivers on track*

Steve's always brilliantly run days will include a driver briefing, sighting sessions and the drivers groups will be based on experience and type of machinery [:D]

The event is STRICTLY limited to 65 places - I already have expressions of commitment from five people so please do sign up early.

IN THE EVENT the numbers of Early car owners don't reach the required number, Steve will be forced to open the day up to modern machinery - so please do support the day - and if it's a success, here's to making sure at least one event per year is a 'Classic Porsche' event.[:)]

To book - please fill in the form in Porsche Post and send it with your cheque to Cornbury House. I would appreciate an email from anyone booking so I can keep a log of who's going. PLEASE NOTE - YOU MUST SEND A CHEQUE WITH YOUR BOOKING.

Any questions, as always do drop me an email to: 911@porscheclubgb.com

Here's to a cracking July weekend of motor racing, cars and trackday [;)]

Philip

* please note that at the time this event was organised, three 'modern' car owners had already booked up for the event - but we'll make them feel welcome [:D]

Looks like we've got 13 committed takers so far [:)]

Come on guys - need to get it up to 65 [;)]

Philip

What a great idea Phil -look forward to staying on and watching Monday.

Find early understeering 911's very entertaining.....[;)]

To answer several questions about the format of the day, Steve Kevlin has kindly clarified this:

We will run the day with the first hour being for drivers in one of
three groups - loosely, Novice, Intermediate and Experienced. Each will
have 20 minutes and from the end of that first hour we will go 'Open
Pitlane'. We will remain Open Pitlane all day, assuming that everybody
behaves themselves.

Sounds an excellent idea to me [:)]

Melv - you'd be very welcome - it will hopefully be one hell of a sight, a track full of early cars [;)]

Hi Phil, The day sounds really good, but there is no mention of noise limits, unless I have missed it! My '73 Sporto is about 103.5 with a muffler, static. Please let this be a noisy day?! Sally

Hi Sally - it would be great to have another Sporto along [:)]

Steve Kevlin advises me it'll be a 105db day - so get booked up and come and have some fun [;)]

Philip

Latest total, if all committed individuals book up is......30

Nearly half way there and it's only been three days [;)]

Come on all you Early cars - where and when else will you get the chance to drive Silverstone National with only Early 356, 911, 912 and 914 on track? This is going to be THE early Porsche trackday......

Philip

Hi Philip
Just returned from working away and picked up this mail thread last night which looks great.
I then went on to get form and noticed that the event is now full.
I have contacted Steve re booking a place and await reply
What is the concencus if full after 5 days with mixture years and pre '74 owners who want to attend cannot......is it first come first served?
regards
Raymond

PS............... Sorry, I have a '72 3.5 RS recreation track car. It is quite well known as it won the PCGB sprint event 3 years running with Rod Carmen in the '90s as well as with Jsh and Valentine Lindsey in the '80s/early '90s. I must update my personal sign
regards
Raymond

Hi Plilip,
Excellent! There are fewer and fewer 'noisy' tack days now. As a 2.4 sporto,
I think I will be lapped rather frequently by a sprint winning 3.2 RS though!

Don't worry - the event is marked 'full' as it's been allocated to Early car owners - we've 35 more places left as at today [;)]

Love to see the '72 - so get booked up and come and enjoy the fun - I know of two or three RS reps that will be there - plus a couple of genuine '73 RS's [:)]

Shall I put your name down?

Hi Sally - don't be so sure - I regularly shock people with how quick and nimble my 2.0ltr Sporto is [;)]

Phillip
Absolutely put my name down and thanks
I will call club and pay by CC now
I have never driven Silverstone and will be travelling from Scotland for the weekend event and this will just round it off nicely.
I am organising trip for the Scots to the AVD oldtimers in Aug and I may have 2 rooms/4 people spaces if required.
This is a guys trip and I am happy to include and organise
regards
Raymond
