R21 Planning for the future

ORIGINAL: geoff ives

I spent most of yesterday evening e-mailing everyone on the R21 database.
Geoff

I've been thinking about this very hard for at least 0.2 seconds; what if, when sending out membership renewal invitations, Jade includes a request for an email address so that she can send the renewal confirmation to the member involved (and so minimise postage costs) but also invite a note of the postal address if no email address is held?

Not forgetting, of course, to immediately update the PCGB database.

Just a thought.

Mid afternoon lunch at a very special hostelry.

Where is this Geoff????

The Greedy Goose. It is 4 miles from Cornbury House and run by Matt Bryant. matt used to run the catering at the Porsche Driving Experience Centre, Silverstone.
One attraction is that PCGB members get a 20% discout on meals.

Hi Geoff
Could you tell me if Cliff & I are on the Chiltern database as it seems very strange that we didn't receive an email from you.
Thanks
Tracy xx

The e-mail is the same as the first post on this thread.

Sorry if I missed you. I will try to dobetter in the future [:-]

The Chiltern Region database shows that the Region, (which used to be called Herts Beds & Bucks) is indeed extensive stretching from Bishops Stortford, to Enfield, North of the North Circular round to Uxbridge, to High Wycombe and to Bicester and across to Hitchin Stevenage & back to Bishops Stortford. Martin Nelson has an email list which he uses but that covers only those "active" members who have given him their email address. As far as I know from my time on the Board there are a fair proportion of members who do not own a computer and have never used one yet are often seen at events, the information for the event taken from Porsche Post. Incidentally there are one couple who buy cars often who have all their 9 cars listed on the database, yet we know they only have two cars at present, the Region and Register database needs to be brought up to date asap.
See you all on the 22nd to get things moving again, No offence Martin.

OK, so figure this we live in Bucks, just outside Uxbridge, yet when we joined we were placed (polite version) in Thames Valley R19.

Is there a definitive map with the PCGB regional boundaries on?

That is correct.
Understand that you are allocated a Region but you can have your allocation transfered to any Region you wish.
I was initially in Thames Valley then transfered to the Isle of Man Region as I had helped to form them, then to Cotswold Region

Thanks for the clarification.

Technology moves on very quickly. A couple of years ago well over 90% of new members gave an e-mail address ( I bet it's even more now), and as Anthony showed at the Worker's Conference traffic on the website has largely moved on from computers to mobile devices, i.e. laptops, phones, i-pads etc. I'd bet that "fair proportion" is in single figures now, and falling fast.

Obviously there are long-term members who've never used a computer, and nothing wrong with that, but I think we have to move with the times. Very few people who by prestige performance cars in 2011 are not users of any computer technology. The Club needs to adapt as fast as the membership does; remember we talked in April about a PCGB facebook page, yet now facebook has a falling membership as people have moved on. We do seem to be two steps behind much of the time. [&o]

Definately...I am just about to leave home to travel to the region.
