R3 Track Day 2021

I've just attended my first PCGB track day at Croft.

After initially feeling quite daunted and out my comfort zone in the morning, I received instruction from Howard Hunt 'Professional Race and High Performance Driving Instructor' after lunch. It was transformative! I can outline details but basically, Howard's instruction before we went on track and then whilst driving the track really improved my speed, control, confidence and most important of all enjoyment. Saved the day for me - wonderful improvements and transformation.

I spoke with him afterwards; he charges £250 a day so I thought it might enhance our R3 track day in September to hire him. I paid £40 for my 3 laps with an instructor (I had time in car being instructed before we went out and we certainly did more than 3 laps applying the theory into practice). Just 10 members could share the cost £25 each to help us gain more from the day, or why not all (not certain of numbers but you could do the maths).

Any thoughts? I have his card and details. His manner was very calm and assured, patient and supportive.

I suppose I should say "Other instructors are also available" but I would highly recommend Howard based on my experience with him on Wednesday.

Happy to be one of the ten. I had an hour or so with a pro on the Porsche Driving Experience at Silverstone a couple of years back, but I'm still not very good...

Hi Paul,

Glad you enjoyed your day. A professional instructor can make a massive difference. I always welcome the opportunity - love to book a slot at the beginning of the day if you decide to go with it …. and COVID provisions allow.

Paul,

I also got so much more out of the day following some expert instruction and would also recommend it; particularly for those who may not be familiar with Croft or who simply want to brush up on their skills.

Count me in.

Glad you enjoyed this week's track day Paul and Randall - it's great when it starts to come together. Very miffed I couldn't be there!

Good suggestion to hire an instructor, although I will need to okay this with Javelin as they have their own instructors and so may not permit people not contracted to them.

If it's okay I'm happy to PM all members booked onto our day (14 cars) and see if they want to be involved. Would you be happy with this Paul?

Apologies John,

Just a suggestion and thoughts based on my experience Tuesday. I can see how this might be complicated working through Javelin. I'll leave it in your hands - it does look like there's some interest. Let me know if you need any further info and or if there's anything further I can do to help.

Paul

Just to say that transfer of my place to Paul was quick and painless on the Javelin web site, once I found the right form. 'Driver Transfer'

Somehow, in these times, I find I have a greater appreciation of simplicity. Well done Javelin.

Good to hear John, Paul will be pleased.

I've also been in touch with Javelin regarding sharing a private instructor and they've said that's okay, so I've let Paul know.

Hopefully we'll have our own instructor. I encourage everyone to book a session when Paul gets in touch. Assuming Howard is still available for our date and enough people want to participate.

Morning all,

I have been in contact with Howard Hunt 'Professional Race & High Performance Driving Instructor'. He is available for our Trackday Wed 22nd September and I have booked him for the day.

He recommends 8 or less being a suitable number of drivers, at most 10.

The lower the number of drivers, the more sessions may be offered throughout the day - most drivers are able to concentrate for 15-20mins sessions only.

Here is the list as it presently stands, in response order. . .

1. Paul Gabbitus

2. Willard Fan (John)

3. Fatenbread

4. Gordon T

5. Randall F

6. Temmplar

7.

8.

9.

10.

Please let me know if you wish to join the list (see my earlier post for context)

Morning Paul, I would like to be part of the 10 if possible please plus my daughter Abigail. I realise it will be £50 for the 2 of us which is ok. Thanks Jim

Hi Paul,

If there are any spaces available, could you put my name down for the driver instructions

Let me know if you need the money prior to the event

Many thanks

( Please note: As other instructors have recently been announced as available for £20 a session I feel that £20 should now be the cost to those on this list).

I will be in touch regarding payment.

Hi all

Our track day is drawing a little closer so I've been in touch with Javelin to confirm a couple of points, as follows:

Spectators ARE permitted on the day, so family & friends can join you for the whole, or part, of the day.

Passengers ARE permitted but an additional fee needs to be paid to Javelin - this can be done on the day. You will not have to pay the passenger fee if using an instructor.

Additional drivers ARE permitted but must be registered via Javelin's website - you can add an additional driver by amending your booking.

Helmets WILL NOT be available to hire, so you MUST bring your own. Drivers AND passengers MUST wear helmets when on track.

REMEMBER to bring your driving license, you cannot sign-on without it.

Looking forward to the group experience and hoping the weather will be dry!

Drive safe

John

Hi all,

I hope we are all.looking forward to the track day.

I have been in contact with Howard Hunt our instructor. . .

I will pay Howard at the end of the day, therefore to make it straightforward would those receiving instruction pay me £20 or £25 cash on the day.

I've suggested that the instruction be given in the order that interest was shown i.e. the order of the list. I'm happy to take the last 10th spot.

Please seek me out on arrival as I'll need your proper names, reg and porsche model/colour which I'll pass on to Howard.

Paul FK Gabbitus, White 981S,

reg S4 PFK

Many thanks.
