Fine but I guess I need to buy a walkie talkie to plug it into too, the one I had on Saturday had been kindly loaned by Alex. So any thoughts on which would be the best model. Perhaps one with soft edges if it is going to be flying round the cabin!

We use the Motorola T5422 which has VOX! That is with the right accessory it has voice activated transmission. Perfick![:D]

I found the Cobra MT975 good as has range of 12km - although never achieved that - I would say maybe 6km at best when we are blasting about. it also has VOX and you can fit an ear piece so you clip the walkie talkie to the outside of your seatbelt across your chest and use it from there. They are approx £45/ pair from Amazon. the battery life is very good as well as used it all weekend for the Normandy trip without showing any reduction in battery life - this is due to a 'standby' feature saving battery when not in use but still will pick up any transmissions. Hope this helps

We have some Cobras [:)] They seem to last really well on a charge- the thing I suggest to always look at is for those that take a rechargeable battery pack- but then can also be fitted with normal batteries incase the need arises.. garyw
