REAR WIPER

ORIGINAL: BLONDELAWMAN

with respect, that was summer!!

Fair comment, but it has rained a lot as well - today was much worse than a typical winter's rain shower and I had no problems.

At speed the airflow over the rear window keeps rear visibility clear (especially when the rear window is kept very clean with rain-x etc).

When reverse parking etc, the combination of parking sensors and the rear view mirrors has been more than sufficient to allow me to get my car into the garage safely.

Your choice, but I maintain it's not necessary.................

This question has been posted before and the general reponse favoured ' no rear wiper'.

One of the 911s (Coupe) most endearing features is the swept roof and rear screen. It would be a shame to add the clutter of a wiper. Besides, there is no washer, so it can only really wipe clean water. Rain-X and the airflow over the roof and rear screen will remove that.

That has also been the consensus on most global 997 forums on the web from what I have seen.

I have the rear wiper and have to say that without a washer jet facility, it is a bit of a waste of time.

For looks, I don't think it (the wiper) "wrecks" the cars visuals but it is cleaner without it?

When raining, I don't really find that the rear window gets quite as obscured as a normal hatchback (such as my A3 daily coalburner) due to the rake of the window and the general aerodynamics, so rarely feel the need to employ the rear wiper anyway.

The worst part of it for me is when the car is fairly clean, a very light showers happens, you use the wiper and it smears a layer of muddy dust across the window - argh, does me 'ead in!!

I would have one if I bought another 997 (version for the wife to read)

I will have one on my next 997 (version if the wife is not reading)

many thanks everyone.

I thought that may be the case ,NSM 3; I use it a lot on my 325 Compact, but always with the washer.

Cheers

You need the rear wiper for those dark damp November nights when lights are glaring, door mirrors and windows are rained soaked, you're stuck in traffic and trying to pull out into another lane.
Personally, I wouldn't have a 911 without one!

Dont do it !

Not necessary and does nothing for the lines of the car.

Spend your hard earned on some Zymol instead.

I took delivery in Jan 05 and I've driven my 997C2S in all weather conditions since... wind, rain, sun, snow, whatever. I'm glad I did NOT go for the wiper. Put some RejeX or a.n.other product on your rear window and you won't have that ugly rear wiper. Spoils the lines of the car side profile if you have one.

How good is RainEx?? I've read on a US forum the guys debating whether or not to ditch the front windscreen wipers as they reckoned RainEx is that good to drive through the odd Californian rainshower - bearing in mind it doesn't rain that much in California but when it does it really tips it down.

The rear wiper issue again, a lot of chat over a minor issue really. If your car is garaged, you could probably forego this, for me , safety feature. Ok, its nice to clear the rear screen when standing still in the rain in traffic etc, but it soon clears when on the move. For me, who doesnt garage the car, I use rear wiper probably 50% of the times I leave, at 5.30am every morning, to clear moisture. So for me a must. Now, that sports chrono thing on top of the dash, never. So each to his own old mate.

How much is it?
If in doubt get it, I always found it useful on the 996 & now I have an AMV8, it is a pain to reverse in the poring rain simply because it doesn't have one

Isn't Rainex affected by the heat generated by the heated rear window?

What products are you guys using, and how wel do they work?

Dave

Hi,

In dry weather I never use it ever [:(][:(] Crazy price for a wiper.[]

But when it rains - or early morning mist......[:D][:D][:D] well justified ?

Ask the dealer for the weather dependant option[&:]

Hope you make the right choice :ROFLMAO:

Regards

Andrew
