Register roll call

Chrishazle - my husband was for years until the disagreement with Stu. When my husband passed away and I put the car back on the road, I tried to join with no success. Never had a reply to my messages about joining. I may try again in the future. At the moment, I am moving house so it's not a priority.

In fact every one is welcome,

I have tried to get some action going on here but gave up, the reg sec never comes on here,

no meets or days out are posted on here, its emailed out to PCGB members only, kind of restricts the news getting out and possibly encouraging new members, but I guess the club is what it is and will not change

I come here once in a while to check, the reg does not even own a 968 now

the 968 uk forum is the place to be

Welcome to all the current 968 owners, please say hello and update here on what you drive/own!

Thanks, Matt.

Welcome Matt and many thanks Ken for your many years in the role.

I have a ‘93 Guards Coupe (manual) which I bought from JZM after a long search in 2017.

I bought it out of nostalgia as my first ever new Porsche was a 968 Sport in ‘94. bought after running a CS for a while but deciding that whilst it was the most affordable, it was too much like hard work as a daily, even to my much younger bones at the time.

The contemporary equivalent of todays PEC session was a full day at Millbrook after having a loaner for a few days. How different to today for a first time OPC buyer. My driving coach on the Alpine and Handling tracks was a young not yet minted Dario Franchitti who I vividly recall telling me I’d be barking mad if I was to buy anything but the 968 in that segment (the main competitor was the E36 M3).

Regrettably after about 35k miles over 18months, my Sport met an untimely death after a Car Transporter drove all the way down the right hand side of it whilst stationary on a dark wet winters night in Leeds. I still have occasional nightmares about that one. Both myself and the small child in the rear were lucky to get out.

Love my current one for it‘s poise balance and flexibility. I can’t say I notice the extra weight over a CS or Sport but a comparative weight drive would no doubt be very revealing. New tyres made a huge difference. It’s cost me a lot since buying but nothing unbudgetted. As far as anything is ever "a keeper" this one is.

Good luck Matt. We’ll chat soon as I know you are evolving some good plans.

Best

Nick

Hello Matt,
Have been the owner of my 968 convertible manual in slate grey since 2015. However I am looking at selling it shortly, due to lack of use between this and my other car.
This was my first Porsche and Ive enjoyed every minute of driving it on trips in and out of the club to and around the NC500, south/west scotland, wales and southern and Northern Ireland.
Enjoy driving it now as much as the first time out.
All the best
Bob

Thanks Nick,

Yeah totally agree, these cars get under your skin in a different way to other Porsche and rivals from the time, I've not had an M3 (yet) but I have had a few Corrado VR6 - after sitting in a 968 it just seemed a much better version of a similar idea but built better and with more power and balance.

The CS cars are fantastic, but the Sport is the sweet spot of the range for me and a bargain (for now) by Porsche standards.

I think the nineties love/nostalgia and wider "Youngtimer" movement will grow and grow over this next few years and these cars fit perfectly into that category. I look forward to being able to shine a light on these cars and stories behind them.

Speak soon, Matt.

Hi Matt, I see you're now 968RS, good luck with that job! I owned 968's for 21 years, a GR tip coupe for 12 1/2 followed by a 968 tip cab for a further 8 1/2 -you have to scratch the drop top itch some time, loved it but sports seats, advancing age and dodgy backs meant she had to go 3 years ago, replaced by an R171 SLK280.

Unfortunately the 968 register on here has been moribund for some considerable time, and many like me have found the 968uk forum much more useful for 968 owners, as there is a wealth of knowledge and help on that forum that is seldom available on here. Years (?decades) ago the register on here was quite active and useful, I hope you can resurrect those times for PCGB 968 owners - although all are welcome on 968uk!

The 968 is a remarkably useful car, in coupe form you can drop the back seats and do a supermarket run or a camping trip to Le Mans (we did both!) and even in the cab we did a 19 day 2600 mile trip across Northern Spain to Santiago, back through the Pyrenees to France (Lourdes, wife is Catholic) then all the way north avoiding motorways to Calais, a trip that would not be possible in the SLK with all the stuff my wife takes even for a weekend away! Wish I could find what happened to my coupe - L456GKE - as I'd have her back in a shot, my cab (K610APD) is back for sale on Ebay ATM, she's a beauty in Tahoe Blue with Cobalt Blue full leather interior, asking price last I saw was £15K!!

Welcome Matt in your new role.
Owned my 968CS for over 8 years now, it’s a car which gets used for lots of fun road drives.
I’ve done around 26,000miles in my ownership and it’s now on 181,000 miles.

Took it to Le Mans 24hr this month with fellow Region 1 (Central Scotland) guys, 1396 miles done in the 1 week road trip, quick stop at Reims on way down, camped at Porsche curves where on track picture was taken as we headed home. Awesome trip with great company, 22 guys in total.

Also a new addition to the family last month, 987 Boxster Spyder.
Means the 968CS might be going soon.

Hi Chris,

Yes aware things have been pretty quiet on here for a while, I'm also on 968UK which has been very helpful with a few things for my car. Hopefully we can all help each other out with these rare cars. I think forums still have their place but obviously a lot have moved on to social media and YouTube etc... Good luck with your search!

Hi Matt and welcome to the role.

I've had my Speed Yellow CS for nearly 18 years now and had an Iris Blue Sport before that, back in 2002/3 which was my daily at the time. I believe it's up for sale at the moment and for a brief while was tempted to bring her home as my daily again.

I try to keep cars original - or at least with factory options and save for KW/3 suspension (which to my mind is just better than the 30+ year old original technology), it's mostly that. But I have bent my own rules a little and was able to justify the lip and the Speedlines to myself as being standard fitment on the Turbo S...

I've had great fun on track with it over the years - I would recommend to anyone with a 968 to get it on track if only once in your life! Obviously not that fast compared with the more modern machinery, but fast enough and most importantly, rapid, nimble and stable through the twisty bits, which can embarrass the rear engine brigade.

And as long as you keep the maintenance up, pretty solid. Mine's still got a full OPC service history. With the Porsche Classic register it's been reasonable price wise and Bristol OPC have been very good to me over the years. That said, the prices have started to rise sharply the last couple of years...

The Cayman is for me the logical successor to the 968 and though I now have one of those, I can't ever see myself selling the 968.

I have a Cobalt Blue Coupe, Claasic Grey Interior, Saratoga Glass roof which I have owned for 10 Years Now, I was a Technician / Mechanic in a previous life, Like David I cannot see me ever selling the 968 unless I cant drive it anymore,
Its to shabby for a picture but it mechaniclly sound with B6 suspension, I have done 36,000 miles in the last 10 years in it and its now up to 160k,
Paintwork is not my forte and I run it on a shoe string,

but love it to death

Looks great, always had a soft spot for a white 968! Please share on here if you do decide to sell...
