...yes that is ice! As everyone who was there will know. (bigger versions of those images available at [link=http://www.flickr.com/photos/26170648@N05/]my Flickr page[/link]) That resulted in most of the morning involving driving around behind a pace car to clear the ice from he track! [:(] Chris and I did the initial sighting laps (delayed until 9.30) in my Rav 4... which was four-wheel drifting in places at 30mph! [:D] As the racing line began to thaw nearly everywhere and speeds began to increase, crossing the shadow cast by Starkey's Bridge became entertaining as there was still about six feet of ice in where the shadow was, causing the Rav 4 to do a little wiggle and side-step. The chicane was great... bone dry on the entry and through both apexes.... icy at the exit! Which caused the proceedings to be halted briefly when it caught out the unlucky driver of a Capri and the Capri was caught by the end of the pit wall! Matt turned up about 9.45 and we got the yellow monster out on the track which was still icy on the Dunlop and Start straights! Still behind the pace car we had to keep dropping back to create a gap so we could give the beast a squirt... that thing has got some grunt!!! [:D] They were only brief squirts though... I could be 200m behind a train of cars as they disappeared round Redgate but be right on top of them and braking like [a word that Melv would delete!] by the time we got to Craner! Just about managed to get two decent runs down Craner in it and it was possible to do it flat in 4th. Finally got in with Chris about 2pm and Chris kindly trusted me to drive his CS again... that was also doing Craner flat in 4th!! As I drove it down the pit lane for the first time we found ourselves queuing up second in line behind a 997 GT2, no sooner had we got on the track, the red lights came on... we followed the GT2 into the pits and down to the bottom to queue up again, but it turned off and went back into the paddock.... he must have thought we might have embarrassed him! [8D][:D] The conditions prevented us getting any of the rides done but it was great to meet some more of you guys in person! [:)]

Eeeek!!! Looks as though I made the right decision by going to Thruxton...... Could have lapped at 150 all day......[;)]

Chris, Matt, I'll wait to see if you guys decide to buy your pics.... no point in us both buying them! But they would make a nice little gallery on my web site! [;)]

I missed this last night! Matt pointed it out to me earlier...
ORIGINAL: jason Chris was giving it some though and Tim was trying to spin it coming out the pit lane![;)]
I was testing the grip levels! [:D] Isn't it a bugger though? a 360 bhp track prep'd Porsche and a 340 bhp track prep'd Porsche and I can't even spin 'em on ice! [:D]
ORIGINAL: jason ...and nice to meet Tim...really nice enthusiastic guy (I'll forgive your forum brashness when you first came on here now...[;)]).
Brash? Who? Me? [;)] LOL I loved your RSR btw... stunning car! A shame we didn't get to take it out on the track... I must admit though... confident as I am in my own ability... I was a little apprehensive about taking it out in those conditions... I've never binned someone else car on a track day, but there's always the risk and I'm only human contrary to rumour!! [:D]

Jason --- I'll post some pics of your car which will make you smile !!! I had a fantastic day --- many thanks to Tim and the Rennlist guys --- and Matt !! Yes the morning was very icy but a chance to play with the lines, drive with one wheel on the edge of the ice and generally fool around at low speed. The morning session finished at 12.30 and started again at 1.00pm with 30 mins following the pace car and then two hours of open pit lane (if you could get out of it) -- before it started to ice over again as the sun came off Red"thingy and it all started going sideways again ! And at the end there wasn't much traffic !!

Matt and Tim both driving looking out of the side windows ... !!
I was using 'the force' (note that I have a black helmet and a storm trooper sat beside me!) to thaw the the ice! [:D] It's not an unusual thing to see if you watch me. This is a pic taken in practice for a Britcar race at Silverstone three years ago... out of shot there was a Ferrari 360 I was just about to pass into 'Bridge'... we were doing about 140 at that point and I was sending him a telepathic message: 'FFS don't turn in on me or else!' [:D]...

...in fact here's a shot a lap later with said 360 behind me...

For those interested, that was an ex Johnny Cecotto European Super Touring Car with 430 bhp.

I've got some pics from BaT and created a gallery on my web site... only Matt's car at the moment but hopefully will have Chris's later... here's one...
