Well nerves were justified....

Some truly cruel editing to take 10 words out of context at the end of a 75 minute interview to make my wife look heartless.

They warned me they'd played me "straight" to be a foil to the comedians in their sheds... but the intro was totally fictitious in order to play of peoples natural dislike for bankers: Derek and I put the project together... I find sponsors and drive, he builds... I didn't "buy my way into the seat"... I was the only person a) stupid enough and b) that vaguely fitted and who came up with the original idea!
Then even used loads of footage they'd "acquired" from 2011 so they could do lots of close ups of the car without our current sponsors on it.
All a bit out of order to be honest.. hope episode II plays a bit better... but trailer already seems to have me playing Mr Straight The B(w)anker again by the looks of it.
But hey, we're big boys and it's a risk you take when you prostitute yourself to be media in order to get your fix of Salt!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01399vk

Roll on Sunday...

I found it very interesting and just shows what can be done hands on, when is the next program and well done to all! Berny.

I dont think it was that bad Rick, yes, I loved the quote from your wife, but what's she supposed to say? I guess if your sponsors completely missed out and it looks you funded it all (which it did) thats pretty gutting. Oh and the shot of you at your desk, you missed the chance to have large buttons on the each screen "buy", "sell", "go for champagne lunch!" [:D]

The rest looked really good.... for example, I'd never thought of course you couldnt test the car!!! So you build it, turn it over, then stick it in a crate - wow! trust in your team or what! I barely dare do that with the caterham before a track session, let a lone one-off bespoke build.

Oh and the footage of truck pushing the streamliner, and then it goes squiffy! Looking forwar to more of that (why did you still have the trailer on the 4x4??).

Oh, and I did catch sight of a little white rally 924Turbo did I?

Rick
They did try to make you look like a heartless banker, but you actually came over as a nutter petrolhead so I don't think its as bad as you fear, but that was a mean little trick they pulled on Julie with that edit. I hope she's not upset about it.

It was some of the best TV for ages and everyone came across really well, whatever the day job!

There's some very trick looking pieces of kit as well, so I'm really looking forward to the next episode to see how it all went [:)]

TVR????

...in case the Streamliner breaks down??? Tow Vehicle Required.....[;)]

Of course, that makes sense, but when pushing the streamliner, and it gets a tank slapper, you've then got a whole train!!! Looked hairy!

All good stuff. ....and I agree with comments above, Rick, I'm sure you are more critical than it comes across to the rest of us. I do think the passion showed through .....or is that insanity. .......clearly nuts.

Rick I thought they portrayed you perfectly?

Big arrogant rich hedge fund banker after cheap thrills on the back of everyone elses hard work with a wife that has you well insured. Yes??

Oh and with flash cufflinks and 4 PC screens!!! [:D][:D][:D][:D]

LOL

Don't be hard on yourself bud...there was a mix of ALLSORTS going to the salts....but they all had one thing in common that everyone watching the program understood.....PETROLHEADS!

You have to be one to get it. For those that are not then their opinion is worthless[;)]

and as Laurence says and others on other forums have commenyted best thing on TV in AGES....can't wait till next week[:)]

Thumbs up from me too Rick. [:)]

Plenty more love for the program from other petrol heads too (but you knew that already [;)] )

Thanks guys!

You'll learn all about the "tank slapper" on Sunday... but not as it seems on that shot.... car got sideways as the boost came in on some loose Salt and I had to come off the power to catch it... push truck then hit me (astonished u can't hear the Scottish driver yelling "he reversed into me") and stuck me on two wheels...

The trailer is on there, because it's 9 miles to the pick-up point... then 5 miles back to the pits... and the Streamliner can't be driven below about 100mph and you don't want to be pushed all the way to the pits... it's a rough, claustrophobic ride!

Things to look for, my chest heaving when we're running... chin is jammed on chest so breathing really difficult and I have to breath like that to avoid hyperventilating... and on the forward looking shots... watch how much the nose is moving around... no grip... hunts about like a truffle pig!

Sure the BBC will throw in lots of shots of me looking moody on Sunday... keep in mind that's mostly because I'm totally terrified! The car gets more and more wounded as the week goes on... so it gets harder and harder to climb back in and put the foot flat in with total confidence... but the boys do an incredible job to keep her running so I have to my job too.

But yes, we can't test as the aluminium front wheels (no tyres) can only be run on Salt. So it really is sit down, strap in, foot flat, hold on and you'll hit 200mph inside 2 miles then sit there accelerating hard for the next 3 miles hoping there are no puffs of wind as each one requires instant correction... it's a steep learning curve every year.

Hope it comes across well on Sunday... and the BBC show just how much FUN we have out there... its simply awesome.

Rick

PS The 924 Turbo made a guest appearance... yes, good spot!

Great stuff Rick!

Can you post any pics of the 'Flower' to show how it all works. Inside the cabin? Pedals and dash etc? Does the body come off to reveal engine and drivetrain? I assume its a four wheeler? I've read some have staggered wheels for stability - is this the case with yours? Come on, let's see the Flower de-flowered so to speak...
