Rough idle, occasional cold start smoke, 987 .2

That is what I'm. Doing, off to SPA in it in a few weeks time etc.
a friend had a 2.5 early carafes years back, very very low miles, sold and bought a new 2.7 981, he is totally in love with the car.

About 4 weeks on since my last post, and I've used the Boxster quite a bit, no smoke at all!
off to SPA in it.
had the 9 scares from PO driving all cleaned up inc a 500mm long bottom of drivers door curb scrape by the local Chips Away, lovely job for £528.
starting to fall in love with the car!

Just back tonight from a week with the wife and the Boxster.
Ran down to the Chunnel and across Belgium to Bruges, then to Trier in Germany, back to SPA for the weekend of historic racing and today a 9 hour hard run from SPA to West Midlands.
1240 miles.
No smoke ever.
Went like a bloody train with some high speed runs in all weathers, absolutely fantastic, utterly stable, pass anything and 34 mpg average.
It does not need an Italian Service....
Car is filthy, stained and littered, just as it should be.[:)]

Glad you enjoyed your trip, and good news about giving up smoking! Would you attribute the lack of smoke to any particular change to the car or driving style?

Good to hear that your car finally has given up smoking Graham. Now, just drive it and enjoy it.

Sounds as though you had a great Euro trip.

Yes, a good confidence boost for the car.
I do drive it differently since the visit to Zuffenhaus.
I keep the engine running at 2500 rpm or more in a gear instead of running to 6th everywhere and 'abusing' the remarkable flexibility of the 2.9

After a good run (ie engine hot for 15 mins or more) I will leave it to tick over for 5 secs before switching off. I leave my classic 911 for 20 as a rule.
It is difficult to stretch the car fully on West Midlands roads anymore, overtaking seems an act of delinquency off the motorways, so 6K+ runs through the gears are rare, but I do stretch it a bit when I can and nobody is watching (or measuring) me, or the wife is not with me!

The car really was a revelation this last week, just lovely to use. Suppose I should now get out there and wash it all off, but a dirty road driven Porsche is the best!
I feel I have now got back to why I wanted a Boxster; they go, they are utterly practical, sound great pulling the revs hard and even look good!
Taken in Germany just before the rains came...
