Rutland 2018 - New date! Sunday 18th March

I've posted an update to the TIPEC forum and elsewhere.

I presume we are going with the traditional timings of Peterborough Services ~10:00am with a convoy to Rutland for arriving at around 11:00am?

Hi Chaps,

Well it looks as though Ferdie won't be ready for next weekend.

We are still waiting for a few parts to finish him off and for some other bits to come back from being re-plated :(

There don't seem to be all that many going this time?

Snow is forecast for London Saturday night into Sunday morning...that may upset the cart a little...it's a shame that it's held so early in the year, it's probably the largest 944 gathering (discounting the 'National' which is PCGB only) and yet it's held in 'winter'?

I was going to try and make it but a cold snowy day would rule out any attempt on my part..

Hard to say, there seems to be a fair bit of interest on Facebook groups but you can never really tell until the day.

Don't think I will make it either, its my wife's Birthday and whilst original plans involved a meal on Saturday night they have now changed. I hope you get good weather and a good turnout!

Pasting details from last year... any interest in a south mimms convoy as well?

Not long now! Looking forward to seeing you all there. Here is a detailed timeline. Feel free to join at any point during the day...

Leave South Mimms Services at 8:30am (arrive around 8:15am) https://www.google.co.uk/...157:0xb0aab2511795d620

Leave Peterborough Services at 10am (arrive around 9:30am) https://www.google.co.uk/...0a7:0x371bed2ea63cfceb

Arrive at Rutland Water (Whitwell Harbour) at 10:45am https://www.google.co.uk/...66b:0x6a1b29459bbec63e

We have dedicated parking on the waterfront (Labelled 1 on the map below). This is a pedestrian area so we've been requested to drive at crawl speed with hazard lights on. We will all have to pay the normal parking charge (take a ticket from the entry barrier and pay at the machines). There is space for 20-30 cars (if it looks like there will be more on the day we can change to use the second parking area, as we did last year).

The MetOffice is currently forecasting a 90% probability of "heavy snow" overnight lasting between 9pm Saturday through 'til 8am Sunday, for my home town. If that turns out to be accurate then I will, reluctantly, have to cry off my trip to Rutland. It seems the Rutland Gathering weather curse hasn't lost its potency.

I was leaving it until tomorrow for a final decision Glen but the max temp for the day is only 2 degrees? add wind chill factor and it's going to be bloody cold and I still have no heating...:( I'm afraid that I'm a definite no...sorry chaps..

Excellent! - I look forward to the unseasonal weather on Sunday March 18th [:)]

Hi all

I'm about 30 miles west of Rutland and so far (18.00 Saturday) have no lying snow, just some flurries.

There is some quantity of snow forecast, 2 - 3" possibly, overnight.

I currently intend to leave a bit after 09.00, but will post on here if that changes before then.

I have been in contact with some guys and the weather seems to vary considerably, over even quite short distances,

so please bear that in mind if you are intending coming.

Cheers

Mike

My house is only 5 or 6 miles from Rutland and there isn’t a drop on the ground. In fact it’s been a beautiful day if not a little chilly.

London has snow, it's been on and off all day...roads are currently clear...tonight though is amber warning for London and what looks like the M4 corridor, 4 to 6 inches they are saying..local forecast says heavy snow from 11pm....
