S.2/Turbo 'Audi style' sidelight conversion

John, I especially hate the 'egg' look as well, here's what it should look like...

Elanclearfrontoncar.jpg

Back to LED's, after much f'ing and blinding, I managed to get this sequence of shots together. Wasn't sure at first as they looked a bit too blue against my red paint, but as dusk encroached, the effect improved.....I shot these on auto at 4.15, 5.15 and 6.00 p.m.

I'm glad I only had time to do one side, as it shows how pointless the standard sidelight are. Nowhere near as MaxPower as I feared - almost discreet [:D] Whilst I was there, I also cut out the baffle part hoping to have a nice bright indicator as well, but sadly, I've disturbed the wirng and have no indicator in the front.[].

If I can sort that, I have a pair of white and a pair of amber for which my original idea was white sides and ambers to work in conjuction with silver/amber bulb.

For the avoidance of doubt, the lenses I bought from one of the many internet vendors, the LED's came from the U.S from a guy I do some work for, but he's being a bit cagey about his supplier

I think the 'frosted' surface of the lens diffuses the Leds enough so you don't really notice they are a line of seperate bulbs just a much brighter sidelight.

I like it

My reaction to the pics was the same as Pauls, the diffuse nature of the lens really makes it work. I'm starting to like it a lot.

I must admit, despite my earlier post, I do like the look of them. I'm still going to keep my car as original as possible, but I know I would prefer the brighter light.

I agree too....looks pretty good, especially compared to the original. One nagging question in my mind, though: do these things have to comply with some bureaucratic EU rules (what used to be called "construction & use")?

What made me think of it was my wife's Fiesta failed its MoT on Xenon sidelight bulbs (but standard wattage)...they muttered something about dim dip and ripped me off ÂŁ37 for replacing them with a couple of standard ones. I suppose they have to make their money somehow, but it's a worry? Won't be going there again.

Many thanks for all the feedback chaps, they're close to what I had in my mind's eye - but not quite there yet. Here's what it looks like with both done...

However in daylight, without camera flare, the LED's are a bit too 'induvidjewel' looking for my liking. I think all I need to do to sort it is to mount the LED strip a few mm's back from the lens and insert a frosted spacer/cover to diffuse the single LEDs. What I'm trying to achieve is a kind of cross between LED'S and a cold cathode tube look.

I've also debaffled both sides and the indicator bulb does seem to better illuminate the lens if only slightly.

Once sorted, all I'll need then to finish is a front splitter, vented badge panel and ...err umm....a turbo [:D][:D]

And don't get me started on people driving with their foglights on when it's not foggy.[]
There's a joke about that.

But last time I told it on here the thread was removed and I was ticked-off by Mr McNulty ... ! (Paul, the scars are still healing!)

Oli.

I come back from a weekend away to find this! Oli, Sirrah, it's pistols at dawn. [:D][:D]

To make a serious point, having driven down the M4 with the sun behind me, in a van with poor rear vision (as in, no rear vision as it had a tree in it) and massive blind spots in the mirrors, only an idiot would have failed to have their headlights on at about 4.30 today. As I had several "moments" with invisible cars behind me, I assume that only van drivers, lorry drivers, motorcyclists and the odd unmarked Police car understand that lights are not only useful for you to see where you're going, but also to make you seen by others. For the cost of a new sidelight bulb every few years, and notwithstanding the ridiculous look of Audis, daylight-running sidelights are a no-brainer. []

Richard, looks good!

More or less i like them. I need something to replace my fogs when i install one pair of these.

OK, I'm changing my mind as well. Those look really good on the car. Well done. Great idea, nice job.

McNulters - pistols at dawn? I thought it was traditional to offer a choice! If that is so, I'll choose swords ...

i recently fitted a set of these to my '89 Lux to replace the standard sidelight bulbs

Thanks for that link Mark. I have to admit I prefer a brighter light in the normal sidelight position. I may well be contacting Lulu713 Kittybaby from Hong Kong myself [:D]

original on the left of the pic, LED on the right - very bright for a single LED - but what a pain to fit, i think i counted 9 screws to take out on each side

Mark...excellent find - I haven't seen BA9S single LED's before and I must say I like them a lot too. Would love to see them in conjunction with my LED strip v.2 [8D]. Hmm...just a thought...I wonder if either/both would be MOT compliant?

These are ment for 951/S2. I do not make 944/944S ducts. Not sure is it allowed to sell parts here, but you can contact me with PM

A nagging question in my mind, but as luck would have it, I bumped into an MOT inspector today, who after close examination, said he would pass them no problem. [:D]

I think I`ve missed something here......................

.........what are you doing about replacing the indicators for I dont think a little 21 watt indicator bulb is going to stand out well against the LED`s across its front. Are you using the original side lights as indicators?
